CLEVELAND - A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws.

"Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they'll give me a dollar to sign up," said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

ACORN is under investigation in Ohio and at least eight other states - including Missouri, where the FBI said it's planning to look into potential voter fraud - for over-the-top efforts to get as many names as possible on the voter rolls regardless of whether a person is registered or eligible.

Weigh mail carefully. Never try to guess the weight of letters and parcels. (You'll probably over-estimate the weight!) The money you save is the same as getting free postage for other uses.
Buy postal cards from your Post Office. Rubber stamp, write or type your message on the back. Or, have the cards printed. Post cards travel as first class for about 1/3rd less than a regular letter. This is the same as getting free postage and envelopes.
Use 3rd class mail for letters weighing over one once. The saving is almost one-third at present...free postage for better uses.
Investigate 4th class "Book Rates".. Certain printed materials can be sent for considerably less this way. Pocket this as free postage.

Her li'l sprout had a fall and past away recently I can't even imagine the heartache they must feel. One of the biggest fears we all have as parents is saying goodbye to our babies too soon.

I was just 'dropping' my cards for the night on entrecard and I stopped by one of my favorite blogs, Daisy the Curly Cat and saw a post pertaining to the loss of a somebody. I thought I was reading wrong but sadly I wasn't. A mommy blogger has lost her baby this weekend.

Baby "Sprout" had a terrible fall on Saturday and did not recover. She passed away on Sunday in her mother's arms. Please stop by and offer some comforting words to Tracey, who has just lost her dear Violette Noelle at Survival of the Furriest and her Godmother Lynne at Darling Millie. Currently, donations are being raised to fly Lynne out for the funeral. If you happen to have anything at all to spare, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated.

clipper's remarks: I love to send postcards. I think it's a more personal way to stay-in-touch with friends and family than email. I choose cards that best fit a persons personality: quirky cards for my best friend, nature images for my brother. I buy cards for myself such as photographic cards that surpass my skills in that area. I especially love cards made by artists.

The U.S. Postal Service doesn't track the changing volume of "wish you were here" type cards. And no organization seems to publish estimates of post card sales. So, in the absence of hard numbers, I'll put the question to you.

At the end of June, as the subprime mortgage crisis was driving the economy into a tailspin, Charles Steele Jr., the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), took to the op-ed page of the Washington Post to decry the devastating effect the meltdown was having on minority homeowners. But rather than support currently pending measures to better regulate the credit markets, the leader of one of the nation's oldest civil rights groups instead attacked them. Steele was particularly upset about a Federal Reserve proposal that would crack down on subprime credit cards—high-interest cards marketed to people with bad credit.

Steele rose to the card issuers' defense, invoking his group's founder, Martin Luther King Jr., and claiming that any move to regulate the cards would deny minorities access to much-needed credit.

Spokeo.com is a search site operated by Spokeo Inc., a startup that lets users see what their friends are doing on other Web sites. The Bodleian Library is launching a new book series, Postcards from…, depicting some of the most defining events in the history of the 20th century through postcards.

Reforms or Revolution, from 'Postcards from the Russian Revolution'

The first two titles in the series features images drawn from a collection of postcards which has recently been donated to the Bodleian Library. The collection is the work of John Fraser, who began assembling it at the age of 12. Over the past sixty years, he amassed a remarkable collection of thousands of cards from around the world, particularly rich in political propaganda.

(CNN) -- Some call him "the Post-it Note Boy," after the 10-foot tall Ray Charles mosaic he made out of those sticky colored squares last summer.

Now, David Alvarez of Leavenworth, Washington, has unveiled an even bigger, even more original creation. Using more than 8,500 Bicycle playing cards, he recently constructed a portrait of guitarist legend Jimi Hendrix.

While others have used Post-it Notes for mosaics like this, as far as Alvarez can tell from Internet searches, he is the first to experiment with playing cards as the medium for a portrait mosaic.

Alvarez, 20, will graduate in June with an associate of arts degree from Wenatchee Valley College, Washington. He planned this project in November as part of his schoolwork, but didn't construct it until March.

He hopes to go to Central Washington University and teach art.

"Any kid that tells me 'I can't draw,' I'm going to tell him, 'I did this whole project without lifting a pencil," he said.
