It all started with the Samurai Pork Burger. I saw this advertised outside a McDonald's in Bangkok back in 2004 and was somewhat perplexed. Why is it a Japanese name when I’m in Thailand? And what do Samurai have to do with pork? Actually, why is it called Samurai at all? Sadly, I never actually found out any of the answers, but it made me start paying closer attention to McDonald's every time I went to another country in Asia.

In Singapore, the national obsession with rice extends to having rice cakes in your burger.

He interacts with “Walter Cranky” and “Dan Rather-Not” — Muppets representing real-life liberal news personalities — and they talk about “Meredith Beware-a” and “Diane Spoiler.” But no affectionate nicknames for Fox News personalities; no Spill O’Reilly or Brittle Hume — nope, and the only disparaging characterization of real-world news is reserved for Fox: Fox is a POX. It is trashy. They didn’t even attempt to try “MessyNBC.”

…by the way, why SHOULD I change the channel? This is MY channel, I’m paying for it!

After a flurry of stimulus spending, questionable projects pile up

The $787 billion stimulus bill was passed in February and was promised as a job saver and economy booster. Here is where some of the money went:

- $300,000 for a GPS-equipped helicopter to hunt for radioactive rabbit droppings at the Hanford nuclear reservation in Washington state.

- $30 million for a spring training baseball complex for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

- $11 million for Microsoft to build a bridge connecting its two headquarter campuses in Redmond, Wash., which are separated by a highway.

- $430,000 to repair a bridge in Iowa County, Wis., that carries 10 or fewer cars per day.

- $800,000 for the John Murtha Airport in Johnstown, Pa., serving about 20 passengers per day, to build a backup runway.

- $219,000 for Syracuse University to study the sex lives of freshmen women.

Washington - In the wake of flagging support and dropping poll numbers, President Obama revealed a revised health care initiative that will involve Congress directly in the nation's health care system.

Called 'Congressional MD Service,' the plan will require that all members of Congress will render medical service to US citizens, including simple surgical procedures, in a cost savings effort.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi agreed saying, "I think I have it now...The knee bone's connected to the thigh bone, etc, etc." The Speaker said she'd gladly perform any surgical procedure since she was good at 'cutting out pork.'

Not to be deterred, Congressman Barney Frank volunteered to perform 'oral examinations' on homeless men in the spirit of helping America's needy.

The full 87 miles of the official Ridgeway National Trail can easily be divided into shorter segments, depending on time available. It can be cut more or less in half, by deciding to walk only the older, original western section, which passes all the great prehistoric sites. Day hikes, and half-days centered on the Uffington White Horse, or Wayland’s Smithy, or the Avebury Stone Circles, can easily be devised by studying the map. THE Ridgeway is the oldest continuously used road in Europe, dating back to the Stone Age. Situated in southern England, built by our Neolithic ancestors, it’s at least 5,000 years old, and may even have existed when England was still connected to continental Europe, and the Thames was a tributary of the Rhine.

We meet back in the bar, restored and fully perpendicular, for a further pair of pints, and a brace of excellent local pork chops in cider sauce.

In Cuba it is simply called ’sandwich’. Cubans call it “Cubano.” To the rest of the world it is known as a Cuban Sandwich. I can’t remember the first time I had a Cuban Sandwich. I’m not sure if it was in Cuba or in New York. What I do remember, and will never forget, is the taste. The Cuban Sandwich doesn’t contain any special ingredients, just ham, roast pork, swiss cheese and pickles. There are many other sandwiches with the same or similar ingredients, but the difference, the real difference, is the bread…, Cuban bread.

EPA Rules Farm Dust NOT SAFE, Must Be Regulated

Michael Formica, a lawyer for the pork council, said this means farmers now face the daunting task of proving a negative - that the dust is not harmful.

Formica said his and other groups will consider a further appeal.

Farmers said they will be hard-pressed to meet the standards.

In a letter sent Wednesday to the EPA, Grassley wrote that compliance would be impossible because of the dust produced in farmers' day-to-day activities.

Grassley also has noted that because many rural roads are not paved, particulate readings could be affected by wind gusts that constantly change.

"After all, God decides when the wind blows, not Chuck Grassley," he said.

But the EPA said the regulation was overdue.

DES MOINES, Iowa - Nothing says summer in Iowa like a cloud of dust behind a combine.

But what may be a fact of life for farmers is a cause for concern to federal regulators, who are refusing to exempt growers from new environmental regulations.

It's left some farmers feeling bemused and more than a little frustrated.

"It's such a non-commonsense idea that you can keep dust within a property line when the wind blows," said Sen. Charles Grassley, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee who still farms in northeast Iowa.

Under rules imposed in 2006, rural areas would be kept to the same standards as urban areas for what the Environmental Protection Agency calls "coarse particulate matter" in the air.

The American Farm Bureau Federation and the National Pork Producers Council had petitioned the government to provide an exemption to farmers. They argued that evidence of harm caused by dust in rural areas hasn't been determined.

A large coalition of agricultural groups has come forward to oppose the Waxman-Markey bill restricting carbon dioxide emissions. Super-easy bowtie pasta

Today's tasty dish is about as easy as they come. It can be served alone or as a side dish, depending on your preferences. The photo shows some yummy pork chops along with the pasta, but you can skip the meat if you're not into eating flesh. (For all my veggie friends.)

The main ingredient for this dish is a product from Trader Joe's, called Mixed Olive Bruschetta. If you don't happen to have access to a Trader Joe's store (I'm SO sorry!), you can make your own with mixed Greek olives, olive oil and some Greek seasonings. I like the T.J.'s mix because it's easy, inexpensive and beautifully crafted. Either way, the dish is still super-simple to prepare.
