SYDNEY (Reuters) - An abstract portrait by Pablo Picasso on Wednesday smashed the record for an artwork sold in Australia, netting A$6.9 million ($6.1 million) at an auction in Sydney.

The 1954 painting "Sylvette", which clearly showed the ponytail and young face of model and later successful artist, Sylvette David, amid bright swathes of red, yellow and green, was sold to an unidentified phone bidder.

"Sydney is the New York of the art market in the southern hemisphere," Deutscher-Menzies Galleries spokeswoman Marie Geissler told Reuters, adding the sale proved Australian galleries could sell works internationally.

The Picasso easily broke the country's previous record of A$3.48 million, paid for a work last year by Brett Whiteley, the late wild-haired bad boy of Australian Art.

Australia has been experiencing a year-long boom in art sales, driven by cashed-up collectors involved in the country's China-driven mining boom.

Jessica Alba has been very public about her pregnancy, but was sneaky about her marriage.

The expectant actress and Cash Warren, the father of her unborn child, tied the knot away from the glare of paparazzi flashbulbs on Monday (May 19), reports People.

Rep Brad Cafarelli confirmed the marriage, although an unnamed inside source gave more details about the quiet ceremony, which took place at the Beverly Hills courthouse's ceremony room. Both bride and groom were dressed casually, Alba in a long blue dress and ponytail, instead of traditional wedding attire.

The couple applied for a marriage license around 11:30 a.m. and waited about 40 minutes for the paperwork processing before they were married. Alba reportedly looked "happy but nervous."

Man plans air ascent by ponytail

A man in eastern India says he is going to take to the air by hanging from a helicopter suspended by his ponytail.

Earlier this week Shailendra Roy drew large crowds when he pulled the famous Darjeeling toy train with his ponytail.

One end of an iron chain was tied to his foot-long ponytail, and the other to the train engine and three coaches, weighing some 35 tonnes.

He says he keeps the hair strong by rubbing it with mustard oil and pulling cars and other heavy objects.

"I am planning to dangle myself from a helicopter," Mr Roy said after pulling the train 10 metres the town of Siliguri where the track is flat.

NEW YORK (AP) - An airline official in New York City says a man smuggled a monkey onto an airplane from Florida, stashing the fist-size primate under his hat until passengers spotted it perched on his ponytail.

Spirit Airlines spokeswoman Alison Russell says on a flight from Fort Lauderdale to New York's LaGuardia airport, people around the man noticed a marmoset - which normally lives in forest and eats fruit and insects - had emerged from underneath his hat. The man's journey had begun in Lima, Peru.

Russell says the monkey spent the remainder of the flight in the man's seat and behaved well.

She did not know how the monkey eluded detection in Lima and during the man's several-hour layover in Fort Lauderdale.

LaGuardia airport police were waiting for the man and his monkey when the plane landed and he was taken for questioning.

It was unclear if he would face any criminal charges.

If the monkey is healthy it could wind up in a zoo.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Passengers aboard Spirit Airlines Flight 180 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to New York's LaGuardia International Airport had an unexpected travel companion Tuesday: a small monkey.

A passenger who originally departed from Lima, Peru, and connected in Fort Lauderdale had been hiding the small monkey in his ponytail, under his hat, according to Spirit Airlines spokeswoman Alison Russell.

During the flight, the monkey crawled out of its hiding spot, forcing the owner to hold it in his hands, where the unexpected visitor was soon spotted by fellow passengers and crew members, Russell said.

The Port Authority Police Department was contacted by Spirit Airlines, and officials met the owner and the monkey at the gate.

Port Authority spokesman Pasquale DiFulco released a statement saying the monkey was never loose in the airport, as originally reported.

Often referred to as "Pony O's", these simply ponytail holders can be made of any fabric. They look particularly pretty when you use a sheer fabric.

Materials:
Pieces of cloth or ribbon lengths - any colors, patterns
Pony tail holder

Rickrack or regular scissors

Instructions:
Take scissors and cut material into strips about 3/4"-1" x 5-6" for large bow, and about 1/2"-3/4" x 4" for small bow. The actual length should be determined by your personal preference. Tie the strips tightly onto the ponytail holder, alternating different designs and patterns if you like. 10-25 strips should give you a full look after the ponytail holder is twisted into your hair.

You can substitute lengths of sheer or grosgrain ribbon for the fabric strips. Have fun. Alternate widths, colors and patterns. Tie beads onto the ends of the ribbons if you like.

Finish the edges of the fabric strips or ribbon lengths with Fray Check or a similar fray-proofing product.
