I think it is pretty fascinating, to see how the market moved through the primary season. Intrade has been quite accurate in predicting future event and was closer than any poll in predicting the result in each of the 50 states during the last presidential election. If not anything else, this might be a good place to visit as November comes closer.

Lashing out with a conspicuous lack of dignity, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi publicly announced today that the President is a "total failure."

Her Senate counterpart Harry Reid chimed in:

Who would be afraid of him? He's got a 29 percent approval rating.

Pelousy and Weed can only dream of 29% approval ratings. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, the approval rating for Congress under their leadership has fallen to 9%. O.J. Simpson is probably more popular. Instead of throwing rocks at Bush, they ought to be keeping watch at their windows for villagers with torches and pitchforks.

If Bush is a total failure, what does that make these clowns?

Support an Iraq Referendum

A study of violent attacks in Iraq indicates that the sectarian violence has largely subsided, and that most of the remaining violence is directed at the occupation, and at government officials who are perceived to be collaborating with US. forces. http://www.countercurrents.org/lin190308.htm

This would seem to indicate that violence in Iraq could dwindle away to nothing, if only we would leave.

Of course, no one can guarantee what will happen in Iraq if U.S. forces depart. But the same is true for the opposite position. It's possible that the violence will continue precisely because the occupation continues.
It's time to cut through the pointless, circular debate. It's time to ask the Iraqi people what they want, NOT what U.S. politicians want. The Iraqi people should decide. That's democracy, isn't it?

President Bush thinks U.S. military personnel should stay in Iraq for decades, the way they have in Korea. John McCain says he's willing for U.S. troops to stay in Iraq for one hundred years, assuming, he says, that there's no violence. But if Iraq becomes peaceful, why would U.S. forces be needed at all?

Shouldn't we ask the Iraqi people what they want?

clipper's remarks: The report calls this a "slight majority" and, in the strictest sense, it is. But do the math -- if the antis pick up all the undecideds, they still lose. This doesn't strike me as the sort of issue people would be squishy on -- if you've made up your mind, I don't see it changing. The antis are going to have to convert some of the pros and that's a tough order.

Still, November's a long way off. You never know.

A slight majority of California voters oppose a measure on the Nov. 4 ballot that would impose a constitutional ban on gay marriage, according to the first Field Poll on the measure.

The findings released Thursday are consistent with a May poll on the issue before Proposition 8 qualified for the ballot. The issue has received heightened attention since the state Supreme Court in May struck down a law approved by voters in 2000 that banned gay marriages.

This time, Californians likely to vote in the Nov. 4 election were asked specifically about Proposition 8, which would enshrine in the state constitution that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

Fifty-one percent of respondents said they oppose the proposed ban; 42 percent support it; and 7 percent are undecided.

Great Britain, under the leadership of William Gladstone, passed a law requiring voting by secret ballot. Previously, people had to mount a platform in public and announce their choice of candidate to the officer who then recorded it in the poll book. Paper space is pure white (Red, Green, Blue is 255,255,255), Model space is very pale cream (254,252,240) and the Block Editor is a slightly darker cream (255,252,229). In common with most people in my experience (and most people who need to use drawings with yellow linework), my backgrounds are all going to be 0,0,0 (black). I don’t want to make a big fuss about this, because it’s very easy to change, but I find it kind of funny how this has flip-flopped over the years. Congress ratings plunge in poll

Congressional job approval ratings have sunk to their lowest point in three decades, according to the latest Gallup Poll.

Seventy-five percent disapprove of Congress and 10% have no opinion, the poll found.

"I think it's a combination of both the economy overall being in the doldrums and also certainly the high gas prices," said Donald Wolfensberger, director of the Congress Project

In the past three years, the number has fallen steadily from the 30s to now the teens.

Asked about the distaste for Congress, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., blamed Bush. "Any time you have a president that is down so, so far in poll numbers … it drags down any elected official, including us," he told reporters recently.

McCain Appears at NAACP

But when he describes my plan, I'm not sure his heart is always in it - so let me have a go at it myself. I believe that in a troubled economy, when folks are struggling to afford the necessities of life, higher taxes are the last thing we need."

Given that The New York Times poll released today shows that only five percent of African-Americans view McCain favorably, his speech seems more like what Noam Scheiber calls a "ricochet pander" -- it appeals to African-Americans, but more so to suburban white swing-voters who want the president to be inclusive.

Americans Say McCain Would be Bush III

But Americans aren’t buying the spin. According to a new New York Times poll, “Mr. McCain is yoked to the legacy of President Bush.” Indeed, a majority of Americans believe that as President, McCain “would continue Mr. Bush’s policies in Iraq and on the economy”:

- 78 percent: McCain would continue Bush’s Iraq policies

- 61 percent: McCain would continue Bush’s economic policies

- 65 percent: McCain would not bring change to Washington

Indeed, as ThinkProgress has noted, McCain represents a third term of his buddy Bush on issue after issue. According to a CQ analysis of Senate votes on issues President Bush expressed “an explicit, stated opinion,” McCain voted with President Bush 100 percent of the time in 2008 and 95 percent of the time in 2007.

In April, during an appearance on Mike Gallagher’s show, McCain bragged that “no one has supported President Bush on Iraq more than I have.” The American people agree.

The 12-hour poll which went live immediately after the debate ended at 10pm revealed that almost 96 percent of Malaysiakini readers believed that Anwar did far better than Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

A total of 18,684 readers had participated in the poll, of which 17,240 or 95 percent said Anwar was more convincing in his arguments.

Interestingly, while Anwar was seen as the clear winner in the debate, a majority of readers (57 percent) said he had the most rehearsed answers.

Shabery appeared to win in that department for apparently referring less on his prepared notes.

However, 90 percent of readers believed that the information minister had avoided most of the questions put by the moderator and two other panelists.

And when it comes to how the two debaters fared on a scale of 1 to 10, Anwar appeared to have outclassed Shabery.

The hour-long debate was the first time that a government minister was pitted against an opposition leader live on television.

While living through years of the worst president the US has had at the helm, I could identify the enemy or the Bush supporters by their Bush/Neocon fraternity pins. And I could direct my anger even before the Bushy sycophants opened their bombastic collective rhetorical pie-holes and blather the some ole, same ole. So the flag label pin had become a symbol of pretentious superciliousness to me. Of course, with Obama pandering to the "R's" and the "I's" who voted for Dubya and helped ruin our country and make us a laughing stock all over the world (Remember the headline from the UK’s Daily Mirror: How Can 1,230,065 People Be So Dumb?) may have a little to do with the Obama Fade From Grace. But that PIN is all I see when this eloquent orator takes center stage and its glare has a blinding effect on the reflection of the man behind that "R" studded brooch.
