Do you keep falling asleep in meetings and seminars? What about those long and boring conference calls? Here's a way to change all of that.

1. Before (or during) the next meeting, seminar, or conference call, prepare yourself by drawing a square. I find that 5" x 5" is a good size. Divide the card into columns-five across and five down. That will give you 25 one-inch blocks.

2. Write one of the following words/phrases in each block: Synergy, strategic fit, core competencies, best practice, bottom line, revisit, expeditious, to tell you the truth (or "the truth is), 24/7, out of the loop, benchmark, value-added, proactive, win-win, think outside the box, fast track, result-driven, knowledge base, at the end of the day, touch base, mindset, client focus(ed), paradigm, game plan, leverage.

3. Now check off the appropriate block when you hear one of those words/phrases.

4. When you get five blocks horizontally, vertically, or diagonally stand up and shout "BULLSHIT!"

More Fun Than Watching "Get Smart"

clipper's remarks: In a speech of just over 16 minutes, Biden used, by my count, the phrase "ladies and gentlemen" 18 times. (Apparently "ladies and gentlemen" is to Biden what "my friends" is to Senator McCain). Biden's speech was filled with the predictable hackneyed phrases. We were told the American Dream is both "slipping away" and dropping off a cliff. And "the future keeps receding further and further and further away as your reach for your dreams." Biden feels things with "ever fiber of my being." Barack Obama possesses "steel in his spine." And so forth. Biden also made silly claims, such as this
being the "last chance to reclaim the America we love, to restore America's soul."

But for the uninitiated, it is something to enjoy. As my 10-year-old son put it to me after hearing Biden's speech, "This is going to be like Get Smart."

Indeed. We'll be watching Biden closely — and loving it.

I have now watched and read Senator Biden's speech in Springfield earlier today. From the perspective of the craft of speechwriting, it was quite a thing to behold.

But what was particularly (if unintentionally) humorous was Biden using the phrase "literally" at least seven different times — including several times when Biden meant to say figuratively. For example, Biden said we have an opportunity "literally to change the direction of the world." Really? Is Obama so all-powerful that he can actually make the world travel in a different direction? We also learned that on day one in the Senate Obama "literally" reached across the aisle and passed legislation to secure the world's deadliest weapons? Wow; Obama not only figuratively but literally reached across the aisle and, on day one, passed legislation? That would be impressive. It would also be impossible.

For those of us who have watched Biden over the years, especially during Judiciary Committee hearings, this is nothing new.

Boats reach Gaza despite blockade

Two vessels spent 30-hours journeying to the Gaza Strip from Cyprus [AFP]

Two vessels carrying 46 international human rights activists have reached the Gaza Strip, despite Israel's strict 14-month siege of the Palestinian territory.

The end of the mission to symbolically break the siege came after Israel backed down from an earlier warning to the 'Free Gaza' protest group not to breach the blockade.

Al Jazeera's Ashraf Amritti in Gaza said: "The arrival of these two boats is a very symbolic gesture for the Palestinian cause, to end the siege, end the occupation.

In fact, those phrases are written across the peace boats which carry flags from more than 70 nationalities."

The boats set sail on Friday on a 370km voyage from the Mediterranean island of Cyprus carrying activists from 17 countries, including Israel, with the aim of drawing attention to Israel's blockade of Gaza and its affect on the people there.

We should have a course on super heroines for the girls, too. Or a course on Joan Jett, so the college girls can rock out with their cocks out. Unless said girls have no cocks, which of course means I clearly meant 'rock out with their vaginas out.' It's not like I've been enrolled in the Cybersex course and have been "cataloguing" shemale schoolgirl sites. No, sir.

The course is supposedly an examination of stupidity "... ranging from the presidency to Beevis (sic) and Butthead (sic)." They don't name the president but we're going to guess it's not Lincoln. Also, right away we're doubting the quality of a course that wants to teach you about stupidity but manages to spell Beavis and Butt-Head wrong. These guys may know stupidity, but apparently they don't know Google.

The description slaps together a bunch of absurd academic jargon to try to legitimize the whole operation, with phrases like "Stupidity is neither ignorance nor organicity, but rather, a corollary of knowing..." or our other favorite, "Stupidity is always the name of the Other, and it is the sign of the feminine." Is there some kind of college course random word generator they use for these things?

Occidental College is a liberal arts college in LA. The Princeton Review has it on its list of The Best 361 Colleges, otherwise known as The List of All the Colleges in the U.S.

Using a wearable device called The Audeo, a person sends nerve signals to their vocal cords without making a sound. These signals are picked up by a neckband and relayed wirelessly to a computer that converts them into words spoken by a computerised voice.

Michael Callahan, co-founder of Ambient and one of the developers of The Audeo, says effective use of the device requires "a level above thinking" and careful training.

The device has been used to let people control wheelchairs using their thoughts, or to assist those with speaking disabilities regain their ability to communicate

On February 26, 2008, one of the first "voiceless phonecalls" was demonstrated at the Texas Instruments Developer Conference in Dallas, Texas. This version can only recognize about 150 words and phrases, but Ambient hopes to release a version without a vocabulary limit by the end of this year.
