RIP Anne Pressly, I pray her family and friends are able to find some solace in his sentence, be it death (well earned) or life in prison. Thank God it can be nothing else.

After two male friends of Anne Pressly testified about their loss, the prosecution called Pressly's mother, Patti Cannady (pictured after leaving the courtroom following this testimony) to the stand. Cannady was already crying by the time she got into the courtroom, and cried almost constantly throughout her testimony. After saying that part of her died when her only daughter was killed, Cannady said: "All I'm trying to do is to stay strong enough that I can get to the other side of the cross and see her in heaven."

Cannady related to the jury how she often found her husband Guy laying on the floor unable to get up in the days after Pressly's death, and said that sometimes she still thinks to telephone her daughter or cover her on cold nights before realizing that she is dead. After her only child was killed, Cannady said, she destroyed most of her own childhood photographs because she knows she'll never have anyone to pass them on to.

NASA captures giant cosmic hand on photo!

Take a look at the photo below. What do you make out of the hand-shaped image captured on photos by NASA? It is telling us something or is it just a fluke shot? (CNN) — New photographs released by NASA have captured images of a vast stellar formation resembling a human hand reaching across space.

NASA’s Chandra Observatory captured this hand-shaped image of an X-ray nebula.

It shows what appear to be ghostly blue fingers — thumb and pinky clearly discernible from index, ring and middle digits — reaching into a sparkling cloud of fiery red.

NASA says the display is caused by a young and powerful pulsar, known by the rather prosaic name of PSR B1509-58.

A quiet voice for gay marriage

He wanted to be straight; she wanted him to be straight. She once followed his gaze across the beach to another man but quickly dismissed the thought. No, he couldn't be. Then he started spending more time with one particular friend, and an unease pushed Brooks to ask the question that ultimately confirmed her fear

"He said, 'I don't know.' And in that moment, I knew," said Brooks, who is a therapist in Falls Church. "That day, the marriage was over."

As the debate over legalizing same-sex marriage in the District grows louder and more polarized, there are people whose support for the proposal is personal but not often talked about. They are federal workers and professionals, men and women who share little except that their former spouses tried to live as heterosexuals but at some point realized they could not.

Dana Milbank Is, as Mark Levin Describes Him, "A Punk, a Liar and a Coward"

clipper's remarks: Constitutional attorney, bestselling author and hit radio show host Mark Levin certainly doesn't mince words. Alerted to Milbank's latest hit piece in The Washington Post, Levin called Milbank out as a propagandist of the first order.

The reason: out of literally tens of thousands of patriotic signs and shirts at Thursday's Capitol Hill protest, Milbank picked out a handful as supposedly representative of a crowd he described as "hateful and gruesome."

An outraged Levin called Milbank a "punk, a liar and a coward" while challenging him to a debate on his show.

Here's a Nazi reference that Milbank might appreciate: I think of him as the Josef Goebbels of his age. He writes patent propaganda in service of the State. And I can prove it.

In the front of the protest, a sign showed President Obama in white coat, his face painted to look like the Joker. The sign, visible to the lawmakers as they looked into the cameras, carried a plea to "Stop Obamunism." A few steps farther was the guy holding a sign announcing "Obama takes his orders from the Rothchilds" [sic], accusing Obama of being part of a Jewish plot to introduce the antichrist.

But the best of Bachmann's recruits were a few rows into the crowd, holding aloft a pair of 5-by-8-foot banners proclaiming "National Socialist Healthcare, Dachau, Germany, 1945." Both banners showed close-up photographs of Holocaust victims, many of them children....

"Who knew a casual comment on TV could generate this?" Rep. Jeb Hensarling (Tex.) exulted as he stood in front of the Dachau banner.

Now, objecting to the health-care bill is one thing. But doesn't it send the wrong message for House Republicans to hold an event on the Capitol grounds full of hateful and gruesome words

Researchers in Malaysian Borneo have captured the world’s most elusive and endangered cat on film. The beautiful Bornean bay cat, Catopuma badia, is so rare; a live cat was not even photographed until 1998!

Although the amazing video only lasts seven seconds, the chestnut-red cat with the long tail can be clearly seen walking through the forest. Because so little is known about this particular wild cat, even its eating habits are unknown.

Endemic to the forests of Borneo, threats to this elusive animal include illegal pet trade, poaching, deforestation and habitat loss largely due to palm oil plantations. Listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, it is estimated that only 2,500 Bornean bay cats remain in the wild today.

clipper's remarks: I was 19 when the Berlin Wall came down. I remember vividly the photographs of elated Germans atop the wall, and on either side, hammering and pick-axing their way through a structure that came to epitomize the East-West divide during the Cold War.

3,000 images combine for Milky Way portrait

Panoramic image shows stars 1,000 times fainter than human eye can see

A new panoramic image of the full night sky — with the Milky Way as its centerpiece — has been made by piecing together 3,000 individual photographs.

The panorama's creator, Axel Mellinger of Central Michigan University, spent 22 months and traveled over 26,000 miles to take digital photographs at dark sky locations in South Africa, Texas and Michigan.

"This panorama image shows stars 1,000 times fainter than the human eye can see, as well as hundreds of galaxies, star clusters and nebulae," Mellinger said.

To combine these images, a simple cutting and pasting job would not suffice. Each photograph is a two-dimensional projection of the celestial sphere.

Mellinger describes the image-making process in the November issue of the journal Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.

The result is an image of our home galaxy that no star-gazer could ever see

On Oct. 24, police say dozens of teens gawked, laughed and took photographs while a 15-year-old girl was brutally gang-raped and beaten outside a Richmond High School homecoming dance.

But one brave girl, who was not even there, wouldn't stand for it.

"I was watching a movie, and my brother-in-law came in and he told me 'I don't know what to do, because there is a girl back there and she has been raped. I'm scared,'" 18-year-old Margarita Vargas said.

"I'm like 'We should call the cops because that's the right thing to do.' I didn't think about it twice."

Vargas said she called police because she would want someone to do the same if she ever was in that situation.

After making the call, Vargas went to the scene to check on the girl.

"I could tell that she had been beat up because her face was swollen," Vargas said. "She was naked, didn't have shoes. They just covered her up and stuff."

Vargas said she would pick up that phone again and call for help. But she also understands why others won't.
