If Batman had a cat, it would probably look something like this.

The household pet, named Yoda, was born with an extra set of ears.

After adopting the eight-week-old kitten into their Illinois home, Valerie decided to have Yoda checked out with the local vet.

'The vet had never seen anything like it before,' explains Valerie. 'He immediately went to the internet and found the four-eared cat in Germany.

Yoda's extra 'flaps' are separate to the base of his skull, with one placed slightly behind the other.

'Yoda's hearing is normal as far as we know,' says Valerie. 'People do a double take when they see him or his picture. It is great fun showing him off.

A Dedication From The Deepest Regions Of Our Souls

Each spirit being was incredibly wonderful, and the memories left are very powerful and unforgettable. We will learn to live with the fact that they all are now missing in our lives, but we will never fully get over it.

It is also import to mention the kindness, generosity and skill of a wonderful human being and holistic veterinarian, Dr. Neil Wolff, of Greenwich, CT. Our time spent together during Rusty’s acupuncture treatments brought comfort to both patient and his guardians.

To terrific parents who made most everything possible, and taught us about the richness of having these wonderful canine, and unofficially human, souls share the joys and sorrows of our home over the years.

If pets could shop for gifts for owners, they might drop by Summerville's Charleston Paws & Claws.

The store stocks mostly inexpensive but cute pet-related items, keychains, caps bearing dog and cat images, throw blankets. The store also features an indoor pet photography studio, where Rover or Kitty can pose for high-quality images.

Paul said the pet-friendly store fills a niche. "Obviously, we can't compete with the big guys" — superstores such as SuperPetz and PetSmart, he said. "But we carry stuff they don't," mainly gifts for pet owners.

In the shop's studio, Jones has photographed hundreds of dogs, some cats, a parrot and skunk. Often, families ask to have a family portrait that includes beloved pets. "You just can't walk with your pets into a Sears or Olan Mills and have that done," he said.

The finding indicated that subtle changes in the embryonic formation of the brain serotonin system in females could impact the quality of the maternal care they later provide for their offspring.
The researchers say that future studies with Pet-1 deficient mothers may help to further elucidate the link between serotonin and maternal behaviour, and lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches for treatment of post-partum depression and child neglect.

A new study on mice conducted at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has shown that the inactivation of brain serotonin in the mothers may affect the quality of the maternal care, and in turn offspring survival.

During the study, the researchers genetically engineered mice to carry a mutation in a gene called Pet-1, which directs the development of the brain serotonin neurotransmitter system.

Though Pet-1 deficient mice mothers showed normal rates of pregnancy and gave birth to normal numbers of offspring, it was observed that not of their offspring survived to five days of age.

Further studies indicated that a specific deficiency of maternal care was the cause of pup mortality.

The researchers found that Pet-1 deficient mothers, though nursed their offspring, often failed to build suitable nests and never organized offspring in a huddle.

Remember Michael Vick and his collection of fighting pit bulls? The Humane Society and PETA both lobbied to have Vick's fighting dog collection euthanized. However some intelligent pet lovers fought a little harder and won the right to rehabilitate these dogs. The result was nothing less than amazing. The dogs were provided with love and responsible training and are now loving family members living the life they deserve. A panel of UK experts said using animals in pain research has limited value and they should be replaced by neuroimaging techniques based on fMRI, PET and other scanning technologies combined with new approaches such as genome-wide association and tissue research.

UK scientists are required by law to consider non-animal approaches when designing new experiments. Animal experiments in pain research sometimes use animals while they are conscious, and sometimes while under anaesthesia.

Although there have been a lot of studies on human pain disorder, safe and effective treatments are still hard to find; yet animal models, some of which have limited value, because they don't replicate the processes of human pain, still dominate research and they raise ethical questions.
