Do not deny what happened at Fort Hood

President Barack Obama

assumed the "presidential grieving tone" over the Fort Hood massacre, the moment after he'd just done an equally scripted segment of light joking banter for the benefit of the Tribal Nations Conference he was addressing.

What happened at Fort Hood was no kind of "tragedy." It was a criminal act, of the terrorist sort, performed by a man acting upon known Islamist motives.

To present the perpetrator himself as a kind of "victim"

is to misrepresent the reality.

He reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire on American soldiers

He shot about 40 people, over 10 minutes, with two pistols, neither of them military issue.

"Muslims should stand up against the aggressor." Do we still have a category for treason?

This deadly enemy of the West -- the Islamist ideology which holds all Jews, Christians, other non-Muslims, and a considerable number of Muslims, too, to be human filth in need of extermination -- is well infiltrated.

Volunteers spent almost two weeks mounting the giant images

Tourists taking a trip by "Bateau Mouche" down the River Seine are being spied upon.

As they approach the Ile Saint-Louis, giant pairs of women's eyes stare back at them from the bridge and riverbanks.

The huge black and white photographs are not advertising make-up or perfume.

They form perhaps the largest - and certainly the most visible - art exhibition that Paris has seen in decades.

"Eyes for me are the windows of the soul," says the young artist whose work it is. "Through the eyes, you can read the person, sometimes read their story."

"Women are Heroes", which runs until 2 November, pays tribute to the courage and resilience of women in places where JR says "art does not exist".

While men controlled the streets everywhere, in the background those trying to hold up or rebuild their communities were the women.
