Explanation: The power to cause whatever carbonated beverage that you are consuming to change it’s flavor to that of an alternate brand, ie. Coke to Pepsi, Dr. Pepper to Mountain Dew.

Why it would suck: Maybe you really wanted a Mr. Pibb? Sucks for you because now it’s a Diet Fanta.

9. Dryer Freshening

Explanation: Everything you touch is now given that wonderful, fresh out of the dryer smell.

Why it would suck: It would be great at first but who wants a slice of pizza that smells like it was cooked in the same place you wash your underwear and gym socks. And after awhile, you’d probably think it wasn’t so wonderful and fresh anymore.

DENVER--The Democratic Party has boasted that its convention here will be "the most environmentally-sustainable" gathering in the party's history, complete with a director of sustainability, low-power lighting in some areas, and calculations of carbon footprints.

But reality doesn't always match expectations. Bikes aren't permitted inside the convention's security perimeter, so golf carts and other vehicles are used. The wooden card keys proved buggy, and some were replaced with more-reliable plastic. Fried mini-donuts were prominently on sale inside the Pepsi Center. Party VIPs and celebrities told their decidedly non-green town cars and GMC Yukon XL mega-SUVs--rented from limo provider A Class Above Transportation--to idle, with engines and air conditioning on, in the nearby pickup area.

The video above has been making the rounds all day. It shows Catholic priests and pro-life demonstrators being arrested outside the Pepsi Center in Denver.

The protesting group marched across Cherry Creek to Auraria Parkway, which was barricaded as an entrance into the Pepsi Center grounds. As police denied them entrance, about a dozen people sat down on the pavement and began to pray.

"A vote for Obama and Biden is a vote to sustain legalized child killing," Terry shouted. "The police are enforcing the laws of obstructing traffic yet they won't enforce the laws against the killing of children."

"I chose to come and pray as a witness to the sanctity of life," he said. "But I choose not to be arrested because of other responsibilities I have in my parish."

Fr. Tom Carzon, also of Holy Ghost Church, said he also was concerned about duties at the parish, adding jokingly, "I don't have coverage for the weekend."

"This isn't a political protest. This is a human issue, a civil rights issue."

3,000 Vets, War Protesters Hand-Deliver Their Message

And with that conciliatory gesture, an unpermitted march for peace was allowed to proceed Wednesday afternoon through downtown Denver streets - peacefully.

It was easily the largest demonstration in a week filled with them.

After about an hourlong standoff with police at the end of the march, contact was made with an Obama aide. Mission accomplished.

Identity politics — it's what's for dinner in Denver. Can anyone doubt that this same kind of political tactic took place all over Chicago and the US? The fact that it’s still happening now says that Denver may turn out to be a meltdown — if not in front of the cameras, then off-stage.

If Team Obama wanted a show of unity from the Pepsi Center, this indicates that they haven't achieved that goal, probably because they've never set the example.

Two people were arrested on the Auraria Campus in Denver earlier just as a large anti-war protest outside the Pepsi Center was coming to a close. According to the People’s Law Project, a group organizing legal observers to monitor police activities at Democratic National Convention protests, the two were stopped by law enforcement officers at 1:37 p.m. At least one of them was an anti-war protester. They were arrested for not giving their names to the officers.

Gary Ross, a spokesman with the Denver Joint Information Center, which represents the Denver Police Department and other agencies during the DNC, would not give out information specific to the two arrests, saying, “We had a limited number of arrests for minor infractions with DNC.” He says the department will release that information later today.

Mile High City revs up for Democratic convention

DENVER - Like a Cinderella deciding to pass up the ball, Denver said no thanks to an invitation in 1976 to host the Olympic Games. Now the Mile High City is off to the dance of the Democrats, a party pooper no more.

Nervous about the logistics, short on money, excited to show its sophisticated side, proud but a little touchy about its Western past, Denver is as ready as it's going to be for the Democratic National Convention.

Tens of thousands are expected for the Aug. 25-28 convention at the downtown Pepsi Center. An estimated 75,000 people could hear Barack Obama's acceptance speech at nearby Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium.

Buckets of Feces Banned at Democratic Convention

I've since learned that the DNC has the federal designation of being a National Special Security Event (NSSE): it's called that, according to Wikipedia, because it's "an attractive target for terrorists or assassins due to the event's visibility or political connection." That makes the DNC on par with the Super Bowl, another NSSE. It's not an out of bounds comparison, either, since Barack Obama has switched the upcoming site for his acceptance speech from Denver's Pepsi Center to the much-larger Invesco Field at Mile High, where the Denver Broncos crack skulls on the gridiron. Go team, indeed.

Recently, the Denver City Council felt compelled to pass an ordinance outlawing carrying buckets of feces, which conceivably could be tossed on delegates or police during the DNC. Somebody's expecting a crappy time.

Organizers for the Democratic National Convention and party leaders have touted the official greenness of the upcoming convention in Denver, including everything from biodiesel buses and recyclable materials to carbon counting.

But in the rush to secure everything green -— even setting up a “hybrid-only parking lot” at the Pepsi Center -— it seems one simple and fairly obvious LEED-certified step was overlooked: Installing bike racks.

Indeed, there will be no bikes allowed within the DNC perimeter of the Pepsi Center, nor at Invesco Field, where Barack Obama will deliver his acceptance speech, DNCC organizers confirmed this week.

Repeatedly citing the Secret Service and the Denver Police Department as making all security-related mandates, including not allowing delegates, volunteers and gathered media to park a bike within the convention perimeter, organizers said not accommodating leg-powered transportation is the exception to the rule when talking about the true greenness of the event.
