USB 3.0 will have dedicated lines going in and out, however, so that communications between host and device can happen at the same time. The other major improvement is in the data-transfer rate, which will be close to 5 gigabits per second (Gbps) in each direction (officially targeting 4.7 Gbps), compared with the 480 megabits per second (Mbps), one-way, that USB 2.0 offers.

Search engines have gotten so good that I sometimes forget that they offer fantastically useful syntax for more specific results. I'll point these out from time to time, but here are my top three most useful Google search modifiers that use a colon:

site:URL and search term. As in, site:www.pcmag.com "wireless router." Insiders point out that this modifier is even stronger if you drop the www. You can also drop the domain name entirely and search, for example, only .gov sites.

define:word. This brings up definitions, related phrases, and offers to translate the word.

filetype:file extension and search term. It may be obvious, but this lets you search for files with a certain extension, such as PPT for a PowerPoint presentation on your topic.

Digestive Table

A living ecosystem of worms, sowbugs and bacteria are invited to this table. They are a part of the digestive system that starts with a person discarding food leftovers and shredded paper into the portal at the top. The bacteria and sowbugs begin breaking down the waste and the worms soon join in to further digest it into a rich compost that sprinkles out of the bottom of the fabric bag that hangs beneath the table. This compost is used as a fertilizer for plants, such as those at the base of the table.

Laptop Manufacturer Reliability and Support

Not all laptop manufacturers are equal. Some have good reliability, but when something breaks, the support is atrocious. Some have mediocre reliability, but are great at fixing things when they break. And of course, there are those manufacturers who are good all-around, and those who are atrocious.

I’ve divided the major manufacturers into three tiers for reliability, and then three tiers for support. My ratings are based on a composite of the reliability ratings from PC Magazine, PC World, and Consumer Reports, and the support ratings from PC Magazine and PC World. Those ratings are based on actual reader surveys; I don’t have the means to perform such surveys, but I can analyze them and see what brands consistently perform well and what brands perform badly.

It’s important to note that by and large, business laptops are more reliable than their consumer-oriented counterparts. So buying Dell’s Latitudes is a better bet than going for an Inspiron; Toshiba’s Tecras are better than their Satellites, and Lenovo’s T and X series are better than their R and Z series.

bright sun in pale blue sky

last night i wonered in room till 11 pm.then i picked <thinking on the web> and till 1:02 i laid it aside.the ambient let me know my works reevaluated and tired to capture me with contentment.that let my reading in low speed.when i went to urine before going to bed,the tv room was shut and the corridor was all empty.i fell into sleep smoothly.i got up at 10:28 am and reviewed a couples each after a broken marriage with a girl and a boy respectively,trying to offer restaurant service just near the dorm when its not organized into qrrs' dorm zone and there r lots of single flat house among the buildings of qrrs 2 dorms.they r so poor when their restaurant near its close,only left me and another guy haunted there frequently.quite some persons have nothing in the world,but they need something to busy to be fed and play in the running process in the world.i don't know what they now made a living,and i don't know how many people suffered the killing winter now,the media seldom now reports bare poverity,and i don't think the gov. can manage to feed chinese people when the spotlight focused onto the wellbings earning bucks,seemed honest earnings comparing with the american,and the shitting babble around the world of the head.

Tempests have been ricocheting around the blogospheric teapot for several days now; all leading up to today's "developer preview release" of Firefox 2.0 Beta. An RC1 (release candidate 1, basically a test version for hunting down bugs) was available over the weekend.

Be forewarned: this version really is meant for the developer community. In fact, in the words of those at the Mozilla Foundation, "current users of Mozilla Firefox 1.x should not use Firefox 2 Beta 1," in other words, all those extensions you have downloaded and been using for Firefox 1.5 won't work as yet. And no word at press time was available from Mozilla HQ as to when any said extensions might arrive, so best to stay away unless you are indeed a developer (though there is a portable version available that won't interfere with previous versions. See Jim Louderback's news story from last weekend for details).

Here's a sampling of what has been updated and rolled out in the new version: built-in phishing protection; streamlined RSS-feed handling and controls; inline spell-checking (so far in my testing, I've found this feature to be non-intuitive, to say the least); and a session-restore feature for when Firefox hangs and shuts down. Session restore allows you to automatically open all the pages you had open when things went wrong. I liked this one!

As for those things the typical user might not notice, there is built-in support for Javascript 1.7, a new Windows installer, additional search plug-in support, updates to the extension system, and support for storing structured data on the client.
