Alaska Rally

The Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was to be held outside on the lawn in front of the Loussac Library in midtown Anchorage. Home made signs were encouraged, and the idea was to make a statement that Sarah Palin does not speak for all Alaska women, or men. I had no idea what to expect.

I felt a bit apprehensive. I'd been disappointed before by the turnout at other rallies. Basically, in Anchorage, if you can get 25 people to show up at an event, it's a success. So, I thought to myself, if we can actually get 100 people there that aren't sent by Eddie Burke, we'll be doing good. A real statement will have been made. I confess, I still had a mental image of 15 demonstrators surrounded by hundreds of menacing "socialist baby-killing maggot" haters.

Caroline Augusta Foley Rhys Davids, M.A., D.Litt. (1857-1942) was born a Christian in England and decided to learn Pali and the teachings of Buddha in an attempt to disprove Buddhism. She then decided to become a Buddhist after discovering the profound teachings of Buddha. She dedicated her life to translating the discourses of the Buddha from the original Pali to English. She was the second president of the Pali Text Society. Her husband, Thomas Rhys Davids was also a Buddhist scholar and translator. Their contributions were significant because they paved the way for future translators.

Gay Marriage Ban Overturned: "In a monumental victory for the gay rights movement, the California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation's biggest state to tie the knot," AP reports.

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in striking down the ban.

Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as the news spread.

Jeanie Rizzo, one of the plaintiffs, called Pali Cooper, her partner of 19 years, and asked, "Pali, will you marry me?"

"This is a very historic day. This is just such freedom for us," Rizzo said. "This is a message that says all of us are entitled to human dignity."

In the Castro, historically a center of the gay community in San Francisco, Tim Oviatt started crying while watching the news on TV.

clipper's remarks: With the cost of home networks and high-def TVs plummeting, I don't think too many people are interested in "owning" digital copies of movies, and many people no longer want to collect hard copies of movies (DVDs) either. People won't pay extra for digital, they merely want to pay a few bucks to watch a wide selection of movies (in HD!) on demand through a set-top box or device that's connected to the Internet. Rent, not own.

DVD Movies With an iTunes Copy: Worth More?

Richard Greenfield, the Pali Research analyst, writes this morning that he hears that the long standoff between Apple and Hollywood over movie downloads may be heading for a resolution. As of right now, Disney, of which Steve Jobs is a director and large shareholder, sells movies through the iTunes Store, and the other major studios don’t.

More interestingly perhaps, the studios are hoping to create “premium” versions of DVDs that include a copy of the movie that can easily be put on an iPod (and presumably a laptop with iTunes or an Apple TV).

Ο σχεδιαστής Eno Setiawan έβαλε μπόλικη φαντασία για να δημιουργήσει την νέα σειρά laptops Vaio Zoom. Φυσικά πρόκειται για concept και όχι για πραγματικό προϊόν, δείχνει όμως την κατεύθυνση που μπορεί να κινηθεί το μέλλον με ολογραφική οθόνη και πληκτρολόγιο αφής που μαζί με την οθόνη εξαφανίζεται όταν το laptop σβήσει.

Ελπίζω κάποιος από την Sony να έχει δει το mockup και να σκέφτεται να αλλάξει ήδη το roadmap της σειράς Vaio για τα επόμενα 10 χρόνια. Συνέχεια » »

Τετάρτη 29 Αυγούστου, στις 7 το απόγευμα. Στην πλατεία Συντάγματος και σε κάθε κεντρική πλατεία κάθε πόλης σε ολόκληρη τη χώρα. Φορώντας μαύρα.

Αποδοκιμάζουμε το αίσχος χωρίς πολύχρωμες σημαίες. Πενθούμε για την απώλεια των συνανθρώπων μας χωρίς να συνδέουμε την πρωτοφανή καταστροφή με προεκλογικές σκοπιμότητες. Δίνουμε το παρόν και στεκόμαστε απειλητικά απέναντι σε οποιονδήποτε επιχειρήσει να εκμεταλλευτεί την τραγωδία για οποιοδήποτε όφελος.

ΤΟ ΠΟΤΗΡΙ ΞΕΧΕΙΛΙΣΕ

Προσωπικά διαφωνώ με αυτές τις πρακτικές αλλά αναγνωρίζω ότι είναι αναγκαίες κάποιες φορές. Δεν έχω αποφασίσει αν θα πάω, ελπίζω όμως όσοι βρεθούν εκεί να δείξουν και να κάνουν κάτι περισσότερο από την διαμαρτυρία. Κάτι που μου έρχεται στο μυαλό είναι η αγορά ενός φυτού, η κατάθεση χρημάτων, η εθελοντική σκοπιά* και άλλα πολλά.

Για την πρωϊνή εκπομπή του Στέφανου Χίου που θα αντικαταστήσει το La Sousourela έκαναν casting διάφορες νεαρές πριν ο σταθμός καταλήξει στην Χριστίνα Αλούπη, που έφυγε από το PassPantou του ΑΝΤ1. Ανάμεσα στις υποψήφιες ήταν και η Γιώτα Τσιμπρικίδου και ένα μοντέλο ονόματι Ζωή. Το concept της εκπομπής θα θυμίζει κατά πολύ "Κους-Κους" με τηλέφωνα, αλλά δεν θα λείπει και το γνωστό καταγγελτικό ύφος του Στέφανου Χίου που όλοι αγαπάμε. Αρχισυντάκτης του πρωινού θα αναλάβει ο Άλκης Στεφάνου -που είχε κάνει στο παρελθόν τον Όμορφο κόσμο (με επιτυχία) και το πρωϊνό της Αλεξάνδρας Πασχαλίδου (χωρίς επιτυχία)- και αποτελεί σύμφωνα με τις φήμες επιλογή της νέας διευθύντριας προγράμματος κ. Μαραγκουδάκη.

Ο -χωρίς εκπομπή πλέον- Θέμης Μάλλης του La Sousourela εθεάθη στο Μαρούσι, όπου συζήτησε το ενδεχόμενο μεσημεριανής εκπομπής, ίσως για το Σαββατοκύριακο, μια και τις καθημερινές αναλαμβάνει η Ντέσσυ Κουβελογιάννη πριν την Τατιάνα. Το έτερον του ήμισυ, Ελεάννα Τρυφίδου επιστρέφει στις ειδήσεις
