True to form, the event began with bad folk music followed by a prayer. Not just any prayer, but a prayer by John Dear. According to his official bio, the Roman Catholic priest has been arrested 75 times “because he so fervently believes in peace.”

The United States' State Department recognizes 194 independent countries around the world. Their list of 194 countries reflects the political agenda of the United States of America and its allies. Missing from the State Department's list is one entity that may or may not be considered a country, depending on who you talk to.

However...

Recognize that there are dozens of territories and colonies that are sometimes erroneously called "countries" but don't count at all - they're governed by other countries. Places commonly confused as being countries include Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Greenland, Palestine, Western Sahara, and even the components of the United Kingdom (such as Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England - they're not fully independent countries, states, or nation-states).

Israel's Easiest Target - Part 1

A group of Palestinian women and a Holocaust survivor in exile speak of Israel's systematic method of humiliation and degradation of women and children in the occupied territories.

These specific instances are clearly just but one piece of a larger policy aimed at suppressing any remaining identity of the Palestinian people. JAFFA, Israel – A Palestinian Authority-allied university funded in part by the United Nations dedicated its graduation ceremony to one of the most infamous Palestinian terrorists, WND has learned.

The Al Quds Open University dedicated the ceremony last weekend at a major campus in the West Bank city of Qalqiliya to the memory of female suicide bomber Dalal al-Mughrabi, who led an attack in March 1978 that killed a total of 36 Israelis.

According to a faculty member who helped lead the graduation, the master of ceremonies announced the year's graduation cycle was dedicated to the "hero" Mughrabi, who planned and led an attack in which she and 10 other Palestinians infiltrated Israel by sea, landed on a beach, killed an American photographer and then hijacked and blew up a crowded bus.

Mughrabi long has been glorified as one of the most important "martyrs" in Palestinian society.

In fact, it is impossible to "return" West Bank land to the Palestinians, as they never were the sovereigns of this territory.

Before 1967, when the West Bank came into Israeli hands, the territory was ruled (and annexed) by Jordan. Prior to that, it was under British rule. Before that, it was Ottoman territory. The Egyptians ruled for some time, as did the Mamluks, the Crusaders, Arab Caliphs, and a number of other ancient empires.

But the Palestinians are not on this list. So while the West Bank could technically "return" to Jordanian or British sovereignty, it could not, however, return to Palestinian sovereignty.

There is currently no state of Palestine, and no international border between Israel and Judea and Samaria (aka West Bank). The borders and territory of any future Palestinian entity are disputed. However, the NBC Olympics Web Site includes a map showing Judea and Samaria (the West Bank, along with with the Gaza Strip) as part of a country called “Palestine.” Conversely, a map of Israel is shown minus that territory. In other words, NBC mapmakers are playing political arbiters and have awarded the disputed territory to the Palestinians.

Back in May, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice publicly raked Israeli officials over the coals after they refused to let seven Palestinians who'd won US-sponsored Fulbright scholarships leave Hamas-controlled Gaza.

Under heavy pressure from Washington, Israel agreed to give exit visas to four of the Palestinians, letting them accept their US-taxpayer-funded scholarships.

But the Israelis remained adamant about the other three, all of whom were either students or teaching assistants at the Islamic University of Gaza - a notorious Hamas stronghold.

Now State has taken a closer look, and guess what? Washington has notified all three that "information has come to light that you may be inadmissible to the United States"

No one's saying precisely what that information is, but we can well imagine.

Secretary Rice's protests notwithstanding, the last thing US taxpayers need to be wasting their money on is prestigious scholarships for terrorists-in-training to come to America.

Of late, there has been a steady stream of brutal assaults carried out by settlers against their Palestinian neighbours in the West Bank, right under the noses of the lackadaisical army. The phenomenon is, sadly, nothing new; what has brought the story back into the spotlight are the efforts of human rights groups, such as B'Tselem to film the violence and document the shocking reality on the ground – which is why, it seems, the authorities are so keen to clamp down on their activity in the region.

However, the settlers don't confine their vindictive and vicious attacks to Palestinians; they are not averse to attacking their Jewish peers either.

Then another Breaking the Silence group came under attack from settler vigilantes, who doused the participants with boiling water after confronting them in the streets of Hebron and heckling them with cries of "traitor", and other such hostile invective.

Shin Bet extorting ill Palestinians to become informants?

The Shin Bet security service has been trying to coerce ill Palestinians to become informants in exchange for medical treatment, according to an 80-page report released recently by the Israel branch of Physicians for Human Rights.

The Shin Bet denied the charge but said it does conduct security checks on Palestinians leaving Gaza to ensure they do not pose a security threat.

This is not the first time such allegations have been raised, and Israel has always denied them.

A Shin Bet official directed reporters' queries to a letter by Shoshi Golan of the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, which speaks on the agency's behalf. Golan said the agency did not make entry into Israel for humanitarian reasons contingent on an applicant's willingness to submit any information, except for reliable information on his medical condition.

A Sculpture of Bird's Head Dating Back to 10th Millennium BC Unearthed in Syria

Damascus, (SANA)- the Syrian-French archeological mission working at Mount Bala'as site in the central governorate of Hama, (Salamiyeh) had recently unearthed circle-shaped small-size houses built on natural rocks in front of caves used for habitation and dating back to the 10th Millennium BC.

The General Directorate of Ruins and Museums said the first and most important discovery in Bialdul Cham (historically Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine) is the sculpture of bird's head engraved on the natural rocks, adding that the finding could be the imitation of an eagle's head etched on natural rocks.

The mission also discovered in the same site a small-size housing structure near the statue along with a small basin engraved also in the rocks and designed to pour into another stone basin built beside the house.

The sculpture and the structure represent a symbolic concept for the man in that period, and believed to be used in certain rituals.

Visiting the Dalai Lama for her latest documentary, "Buddha's Warriors," CNN's Christiane Amanpour casually compares Tibetan and Palestinian efforts for statehood

Our visit coincided with the events that commemorate each March 10, the date the Dalai Lama fled Tibet on horseback in 1959. He managed to evade the Chinese Communist forces, disguised as a soldier and escaping at night. The somber remembrance is a little like what the Palestinians do every year. They call it al-Nakba, or "catastrophe," which marks 1948 when they lost much of their land as the state of Israel was founded.

Here are four reasons such a comparison breaks down.

1) Tibetans don't seek China's destruction, or threaten Western interests.

2) Tibetans haven't launched a campaign of suicide bombings, rockets, or kidnappings.

3) The Tibetan independence movement is neither allied nor co-opted by foreign outsiders like Iran, Al-Qaida, Syria, Hezbollah, or the Muslim Brotherhood.
