In early 2008, Bahadur's group struck a peace deal with the local administration in North Waziristan, a mountainous tribal region along the Afghan border where the Pakistani government exerts little control. But a spokesman for his group announced Monday that because of U.S. drone bombings and Pakistani military activity, that peace has been shattered.

The BBC has coverage and a helpful map, with Afghanistan as an oceanic blue off in the North-west:

And a bit more from ABC News:
A militant commander who had a non-aggression pact with the Pakistan military has officially scrapped that pact, following a series of CIA drone attacks in the region including one that killed more than 65 at a funeral last week.

Posted by Tom Maguire on July 02, 2009

Clip Source: justoneminute.typepad.com

From the WaPo

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan,
June 29 -- The Pakistani military is at war with the Taliban, but the
ambush that killed 16 soldiers in the tribal region of North Waziristan
on Sunday was still somewhat unexpected.

"There is no operation which was either planned or being conducted
in North Waziristan," Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas, a Pakistani military
spokesman, told reporters Monday. "This attack was completely
unprovoked."

Inzar Kas was one of the deadliest incidents for the military during
its two-month-old offensive against the insurgents. But to some
analysts, it also served as a warning of a bigger threat -- the
possibility that disparate Taliban factions might be closing ranks to
battle the army in Pakistan.

Pakistan's top Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, is buying children as young as 7 to serve as suicide bombers in the growing spate of attacks against Pakistani, Afghan and U.S. targets, U.S. Defense Department and Pakistani officials say.

<img src="http://content9.clipmarks.com/image_cache/ColoradoRight/512/26882B91-A20E-4E32-9553-75A46BB3A7E2.jpg" alt="ASSOCIATED PRESS

A Pakistani official, who spoke on the condition that he not be named because of the sensitive nature of the topic, said the going price for child bombers was $7,000 to $14,000 - huge sums in Pakistan, where per-capita income is about $2,600 a year.

"[Mehsud] produces these suicide bombers, which are sold or bartered, which can be used by [Afghan Taliban leader Mullah] Omar's Taliban or ... other groups," the U.S. official said.

In some cases, he said, the children are kidnapped and then sold to Mehsud.

Instead these so-called embassies will actually be walled compounds, akin to medieval fortresses, where American spies, soldiers, intelligence officials, and diplomats try to keep an eye on hostile populations in a region at war. One can predict with certainty that they will house

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

The U.S. Empire of Bases -- at $102 billion a year already the world's costliest military enterprise -- just got a good deal more expensive. As a start, on May 27th, we learned that the State Department will build a new "embassy" in Islamabad, Pakistan, which at $736 million will be the second priciest ever constructed, only $4 million less, if cost overruns don't occur, than the Vatican-City-sized one the Bush administration put up in Baghdad. The State Department was also reportedly planning to buy the five-star Pearl Continental Hotel (complete with pool) in Peshawar, near the border with Afghanistan, to use as a consulate and living quarters for its staff there.

Unfortunately for such plans, on June 9th Pakistani militants rammed a truck filled with explosives into the hotel, killing 18 occupants, wounding at least 55, and collapsing one entire wing of the structure. There has been no news since about whether the State Department is still going ahead with the purchase.

Tags: empire, u.s., mid, east, asia, war, terror, subject, people, garrison

<clipSource>http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chalmers-johnson/a-modest-proposal-for-gar_b_224996.html</clipSource>

Obama to reassess US troop levels in Afghanistan

clipped by: kochireza
clipper's remarks: He says the U.S. and its allies also must build up the Afghan national army and police and enable neighboring Pakistan to secure its borders against terrorist movements.

Clip Source: topallnews.blogspot.com

The riots were incited by broadcasts from local mosques. This incident is similar to a February 1997 attack when thousands of Christian houses and churches were burned and hundreds of Christians were injured.

ICC partners received the news this morning and went immediately to the scene to help injured Christians transferred to Lahore, renting two mini vans for this purpose. So far 9 burned women and 4 children have been transferred to Lahore for further medical treatment. All of them have been injured by throwing acid on them. Local police have arrived on the scene but the situation is out of control as thousands of Muslims have gathered for this purpose.

Tags: muslim, pakistan, christian

<clipSource>http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/026794.php</clipSource>

Dissent in Iran funded by US?

clipped by: After the invasion, billions of dollars were removed from the Panamanian banking system by federal mandate, just in time to help bail out the failed S & L industry which collapsed under the weight of corruption and "deregulation."

This involved him in Bush's Iran-Contra program, a triangular trade which involved selling arms to Iran (for a private profit), importing cocaine into the US (for a private profit) and delivering arms to the Contras (for a private profit.)

Deemed a "narco-terrorist," Noriega was the main banker for the cocaine trade.

The "surgical strike" designed to remove CIA partner Manual Noriega from office, killed an estimated 10,000 civilians.

The Road to Iraq and Afghanistan (and maybe Iran and Pakistan) started with the invasion of Panama under the direction of George H.W. Bush, the father.

You couldn't make up this stuff if you tried.

<clipSource>http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/654.html</clipSource>
