Anyone who has ever experienced one can recognized the physical symptoms of an anxiety attack immediately. Heavy breathing, chest pain, sweating, and shaking are accompanied by numbness in the extremities. You may feel as if you’re going crazy, having a heart attack, or on your way to a nervous breakdown.

Because of this, some people call an ambulance and have themselves taken to a hospital. While this is not always necessary, it certainly can’t hurt to have the care of a professional to help you through the attack. Doctors, therapists, and counselors can all make an anxiety attack easier to bear, using techniques such as talk therapy and medication.

This means pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, described by sufferers as stabbing and shooting; with deep muscular aches, throbs and twitching, and can pop up on any part of the body.

This means fatigue that is so pronounced that it is almost incapacitating, such that limbs feel like they have weights attached to them.

This may mean one of a number of different sleep disorders, such as alpha-EEG anomaly, sleep apnea, bruxism (grinding the teeth) or restless leg syndrome (RLS)

Migraines and tension headaches affect about 70% of patients

Between 40 and 70% of patients suffer from constipation, diarrhea, frequent abdominal pain, abdominal gas, and nausea.

Nicole was videotaping. Her tape of her own violent arrest is chilling. Police in riot gear charged her, yelling, "Get down on your face." You hear her voice, clearly and repeatedly announcing "Press! Press! Where are we supposed to go?" She was trapped between parked cars. The camera drops to the pavement amid Nicole's screams of pain. Her face was smashed into the pavement, and she was bleeding from the nose, with the heavy officer with a boot or knee on her back. Another officer was pulling on her leg. Sharif was thrown up against the wall and kicked in the chest, and he was bleeding from his arm.

Yahoo closed at $17.75 a share Thursday, marking a new 52-week low for the Internet pioneer and raising the question of whether any near-term catalyst exists that could revive the battered stock.

Yahoo's share price performance not only pushes it past the 52-week mark it was trading in January, but also knocks it back to a level not seen since early October 2003. And while some investors may note that Yahoo was knocked about with the rest of tech stocks--as the tech-heavy Nasdaq took a beating Thursday--it may not cushion the pain of what could have been.

Pine Bark Extract Reduces Knee Osteoarthritis

Pycnogenol, a pine bark extract from the French maritime pine tree has been shown to reduce overall knee osteoarthritis symptoms by 20.9 percent, and lower pain by 40.3 percent, in a third clinical trial on osteoarthritis treatment with Pycnogenol.

Pycnogenol acts as an anti-inflammatory and the study also suggests that Pycnogenol may assist the joints in recovery.

The 3-month study involved 100 patients with stage I or II osteoarthritis, and were supplemented with either 150 mg Pycnogenol or placebo every day.

Overall knee osteoarthritis symptoms improved showed a significant 20.9 percent improvement in the Pycnogenol group, with joint improvement persisting for 4 weeks after intake of Pycnogenol was discontinued. After the 3-month trial was completed there was a 40.3 percent reduction in joint pain, 2 weeks later the pain was still 36.1 percent lower.

The patients supplementing with Pycnogenol also required significantly less analgesic medication compared to the placebo group.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), osteoarthritis, the most common type of arthritis, is on the rise. A new study published in the August journal of Phytotherapy Research, reveals Pycnogenol, bark extract from the French maritime pine tree, reduced overall knee osteoarthritis (OA) symptoms by 20.9 percent and lowered pain by 40.3 percent. To date, this is the third clinical trial on osteoarthritis treatment with Pycnogenol. This study investigated what happens to joint symptoms after treatment with Pycnogenol is terminated and the results show that no relapse occurred after two weeks. Pycnogenol acts as potent anti-inflammatory and the lasting effects found in this study suggest that Pycnogenol may help the joints to recover.

Democracy Now!’s Amy Goodman, Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar Released After Illegal Arrest at RNC

Goodman Charged with Obstruction; Felony Riot Charges Pending Against Kouddous and Salazar

All three were violently manhandled by law enforcement officers. Abdel Kouddous was slammed against a wall and the ground, leaving his arms scraped and bloodied. He sustained other injuries to his chest and back. Salazar’s violent arrest by baton-wielding officers, during which she was slammed to the ground while yelling, “I’m Press! Press!,” resulted in her nose bleeding, as well as causing facial pain. Goodman’s arm was violently yanked by police as she was arrested.

On Tuesday, Democracy Now! will broadcast video of these arrests, as well as the broader police action. These will also be available on: www.democracynow.org

Aging and Delirium: Too Much or Too Little Pain Medication?

Delirium, also known as acute confusion, is common in hospitalized elders and can result in poor outcomes. Delirium occurs in as many as 50% of general hospital patients and rises to more than 80% in intensive care patients and patients at the end of life (Esper and Heidrich 2005, Inouye 1998, Inouye 2006, Pisani et al 2003). Delirium is associated with increased morbidity, increased length of stay, poorer functional outcomes, increased risk of nursing home placement, and increased patient care costs (Pompei, Foreman, Rudberg, Inouye, Braund & Cassel, 1994). Medicare hospital expenditures attributable to delirium are nearly $6.9 billion (Inouye, 2006). The clinical features include a rapid onset, disordered attention, disturbance of the sleep-wake cycle, and a fluctuating course with deterioration in the evening. Alertness can be either increased (hyperactive) or decreased (hypoactive) (Burns, Gallagley, & Byrne, 2004).
