The latest lunatic fringe talking point equates Democratic-led efforts at health care reform with the 9/11 terrorist attacks on American soil.

During his Monday broadcast, Fox News host Glenn Beck applauded the tea-party protesters and grassroots organizers who are "taking time out of our busy lives" to work against the enactment of health care reform.

Beck said the 9/12ers, as they are also referred to, "are reading 2,000-page healthcare bills on the weekend. [They] are willing to stand in line and take our shoes off before the plane actually hits the tower."

Perhaps Beck was concerned that he was losing the battle of hyperbole to another conservative firebrand. Earlier in the day, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) raised the specter of 9/11 herself, warning from the floor of the House of Representatives that America has more to fear from health care than from terrorism.

A Beckean Slip: Confusing the president with bin Laden, while touting theory that Obama is a Marxist

clipper's remarks: This is what we'll call a Beckean Slip: An apparent slip of the tongue that is most likely intentional, and at the bare minimum clearly exposes the desire to confuse the public.

It isn't the first time Beck has slipped and mixed up Osama bin Laden's name with President Obama's. And it certainly won't be the last.

However, it does tend to undermine Beck's subsequent claim to having this high-level, all-seeing mind that is "right" about a whole host of things (that he's actually been wrong about). Indeed, it reveals a confused mind incapable of clearly distinguishing between the president of the United States and a cave-dwelling terrorist.

Beck also adds that "I could be wrong" but "I haven't been before"? Um, yeah, except for the dozens of times he actually has been wrong. (Remember when he was predicting that Americans would eventually go for McCain at the polls? That prediction turned out well, didn't it?)

Glenn Beck was trying real hard yesterday to convince people that his running theory -- that Barack Obama is secretly a Marxist who intends to radically transform America into a communist state -- just might be right.

He compared his theory to the early stages of the Monica-baiting of Clinton in 1998, when everyone was in denial -- because, you see, he thinks eventually he'll be proven right. OK, whatever.

Then he blurted this out:

Beck: I mean, at this point, you have to try to not pay attention. I mean, you have to be working to miss the pattern here. There's so much anti-free-market rhetoric from Obama and his top officials, you'd either have to either be living in a cave in Afghanistan next to Obama, and you can't hear anything that Ob -- uh, Osama is saying because of the goats going, ah-ah-ah, or you're so deeply in love with Obama that you can't detect a single flaw in him.

Islamist group Al-Qaeda is so short of money that it's looking to open a worldwide chain of High Street charity shops.

Founded back in 1988, Al-Qaeda is an educational organisation, dedicated to the well-being of deprived children, the learning of Islam and the promotion of sharia law across the globe.

Currently based in the Waziristan region, where they offer free education to the poor via a network of charitable madrassas, Al-Qaeda is anxious to do similar good works in the cities of USA and Great Britain.

The current Chair of the organisation is a kindly looking clerical chap called Osama bin Laden.

"We are appealing to the free world for help in this important cause", pleaded Mr Laden. "If kind people would donate their unwanted household goods to our new AQ chain of charity shops, they will have the satisfaction of knowing they are helping a child learn to read and write", he added.

My letter to Ron Paul on Afghanistan

As readers of this blog may be aware, I'm an adherent to the theory of Richard Muller that says that a son of bin Ladin may be impesonating his voice, and that bin Ladin may in fact be dead.

I pointed out that credible scientists have suggested that the CIA might be fooled by fake audio tapes purporting to be from Osama bin Ladin, whereas in fact bin Ladine might be dead. As suggested by that certain blood relatives of the bin Ladin—one of his sons to be specific—can mimic bin Ladin’s voice well enough to fool the CIA

I believe that there is a credible chance that flawed intelligence is being used to assess Osama bin Laden is alive. In particular, Dr. Richard A. Muller of Cal Berkeley published in Technology Review (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) a scenario in which it may be possible to fool the CIA’s best voice identification software.

Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., questioned the wisdom of sending more troops to Afghanistan in a speech delivered Wednesday afternoon on the Senate floor.

"This is a difficult terrain for any American president, especially when faced with conflicting views from advisers, Congress and the American public."

But during the eight years since those attacks, Byrd said, "I have become deeply concerned that ... the reason for the U.S. military mission in Afghanistan has become lost, consumed in some broader scheme of nation-building which has clouded our purpose and obscured our reasoning."

The defining aspect of the Reagan Revolution was not that so called conservatives would place the economy at risk with radical experiments, but that they would completely ignore the results.

Ronald Reagan and his revolution have a substantial legacy. We have already fought three wars against two of his allies: Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden.

Maybe all this is Ronald Reagan’s fault. Or perhaps he was nothing more than the standard bearer for the most self indulgent generation of Americans to ever trod the planet. A generation that was perfectly happy with the politics of Prozac. A generation that just wanted to feel good and be assured that greatness was an American birthright that never needed to be questioned.

Reagan is so revered that few are willing to question his legacy. But there is no better time to revisit the history of Ronald Reagan than the beginning of the 21st century, as we begin to suffer the full consequences of his policies and the revolution that bears his name.

Since then, he ‘may have’ moved into Pakistan. No one knows for certain.

Is it really necessary to continue this seven year long bled letting against a bunch of religious extremists and druglords many of whom have safe haven in Pakistan, only for the occasional victory? Victories that soon are negated by retaliatory actions of many of the same people we are there to ‘bring into the 21st century’.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s corrupt government skims the very drug trade that funds the indigenous forces NATO forces are fighting against and will therefore never lift a governmental finger to stop it.

Free speech death watch. The U.N. Human Rights Council approved the resolution, cosponsored by the U.S. and Egypt, yesterday.

It calls on states to condemn and criminalize "any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence." It also condemns "negative stereotyping of religions and racial groups," which is of course an oblique reference to accurate reporting about the jihad doctrine and Islamic supremacism -- which is always the focus of whining by the Organization of the Islamic Conference and other groups about negative "stereotyping" of Islam. They never say anything when people like Osama bin Laden and Khaled Sheikh Mohammed issue detailed Koranic expositions justifying violence and hatred; but when people like Geert Wilders and others report about such expositions, that's "negative stereotyping."

The Founding Fathers tried to protect Americans from tyranny by protecting free speech.

Gouttierre, director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, said that “as a symbolic figure, Omar is a centrifugal force for the Taliban,” playing a similar role to that of Osama bin Laden in Al Qaeda. But Dr. Gouttierre credits the Taliban’s success not to any military genius on the part of Mullah Omar but to more worldly advisers from Pakistan’s intelligence service and Al Qaeda.

Mullah Omar heads the Taliban’s Rahbari Shura, or leadership council, often called the Quetta Shura since it relocated to the Pakistani city in 2002. The shura, consisting of the Taliban commanders, “operates like the politburo of a communist party,” setting broad strategy, said Mr. Yusufzai, the Pakistani journalist. General McChrystal wrote in his assessment that the shura “conducts a formal campaign review each winter, after which Mullah Omar announces his guidance and intent for the coming year.”
