clipper's remarks: Speculation is that he's the man for McCain. Looks to be a solid but not very exciting pick. He does have more experience that Obama, and would be the only candidate in the race that isn't a US senator and who has executive experience.

From what I can tell, this guy would help more than hurt McCain, but I don't think he would have a major impact either way right away. Looks like he would be a safe pick that could put Minnesota into play, but not an exciting pick like Alaska's Sarah Palin or Oklahoma's Dr. No Tom Coburn or even Joe Lieberman (not that I think he would be a good pick, but he would be exciting).

Governor Pawlenty grew up in South St. Paul, Minnesota. The only child in his family to graduate from college, he attended the University of Minnesota (B.A., J.D.) and practiced law in the private sector. His public service career includes serving as a city councilmember and ten-year member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, including four years as House Majority Leader.

As Governor, he has balanced Minnesota's budget three times without raising taxes

accomplishments include

new benefits for veterans and members of the military

a property tax cap

eliminating the marriage penalty and cutting taxes

toughening the state's education standards

reforming the way teachers are paid through a nation-leading performance pay plan

free-market health care reforms that increase accountability and provide tax credits to encourage the use of health savings accounts

a plan to Americanize our energy sources by generating 25% of the state's electricity from renewable sources by 2025

So how to choose a top 10 from more than 3,000 endangered languages?

take into account four factors: (1) geographical coverage

(2) scientific interest

3) cultural interest

(4) social impact

1. Jeru

Jeru (or Great Andamanese) is spoken by fewer than 20 people on the Andaman Islands in the Indian Ocean.

2. N|u (also called Khomani)

a Khoisan language spoken by fewer than 10 elderly people

in the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa

3. Ainu

spoken by a small number of old people on the island of Hokkaido

4. Thao

central Taiwan is the home of the Thao language, now spoken by a handful of old people

5. Yuchi

spoken in Oklahoma, USA, by just five people all aged over 75

An Antichrist Obama in McCain Ad?

It's not easy to make the infamous Willie Horton ad from the 1988 presidential campaign seem benign. But suggesting that Barack Obama is the Antichrist might just do it.

The ad was the creation of Fred Davis, one of McCain's top media gurus as well as a close friend of former Christian Coalition head Ralph Reed and the nephew of conservative Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe.

As the ad begins, the words "It should be known that in 2008 the world shall be blessed. They will call him The One"

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Members of Iraq Veterans Against the War spoke out Monday in Oklahoma as part of a national tour that includes events in Oklahoma City and Lawton, near Fort Sill Army Base.

The protesters criticized politicians for saying they support the troops, while voting against legislation to upgrade military equipment sent to Iraq and take care of veterans' medical needs when they return home

most Iraqis do not support "the American occupation" of their country.

Kristofer Goldsmith of Long Island, N.Y., spoke of attempting suicide after becoming disillusioned in Iraq.

"The best way to support the troops is to keep them alive when they get back,"

The IVAW was praised by soldiers speaking at the Capitol for helping them deal with red tape standing in the way of getting medical and other benefits.

They were joined by two Oklahoma men whose sons were killed in Iraq — Warren Henthorn of Choctaw and John Scripsick of Wayne.

Could allowing teachers to bring guns to class help prevent Columbine-like tragedies?

The board of the tiny, rural Texas district of Harrold, near the Oklahoma border, thinks so.

It unanimously approved such a plan, to take effect this fall -- and the move appears to be the first of its kind in the United States.

Though the district only has one school and about 100 students, the policy could have massive reppercussions.

Senator Tom Coburn is unknown to most Americans, but the strange workings of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics could end up making the Oklahoma Republican far more popular than he is today.

Currently, 65% of voters nationwide don’t know enough about Coburn to have any opinion at all. He is best known in Washington as "Dr. No" for battling his colleagues over wasteful government spending.

Coburn is a medical doctor who continues to deliver about 400 babies a year. When told that it would be a violation of Senate rules to earn such outside income, Coburn stopped collecting money. He actually loses money for delivering the babies since he pays for malpractice insurance out of his own pocket. The latest Rasmussen Reports survey found that 77% of voters say such conduct is appropriate for a senator while only 8% disagree.

When told that Coburn would ignore the committee and continue delivering babies for free, 75% voiced a favorable opinion of the senator

40% with a Very Favorable opinion

Choctaw Cat Shot With Arrow, Survives

An Oklahoma family is looking for answers after someone shot their cat in the head with an arrow.

Donna Beasley let her cat Topper out to play and was surprised to see it come home with an arrow in its head.

“It was through his cheek and then went through his shoulder and went out the other side of his back,”

“They said it was close to his spine, but it was just above it,”

“He’s so small, you know you had to kind of do it on purpose,”

Investigators said they think the attack was an isolated incident and they don’t know who may be responsible for it. They hope someone in the area who knows something will call them with a tip.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police in Oklahoma are trying to get to the bottom of a convenience store robbery where the bandit was caught on surveillance video flashing more than a gun.

The man stole about $80 from an EZ Mart in July, reported KOCO-TV. Police told the station that the gun and choice of disguise used in the robbery left the clerk traumatized.

The video shows the man walking into the store with his shirt over his head and his pants falling down to his knees. After getting money and cigarettes from the clerk, the man walked out of the store and fled.

"It's really surprising that he pulled off the robbery since he?s trying to cover his face with one hand and then he?s holding the gun with the other hand," said Balderrama. "And in the meantime, he's having to pull up his pants at the same time."
