Here was Chip as I found him: curled up, cold, appearing to be dead, in the middle of a trail in the Olympics.

Over the next hour, as I held him in my hand, he warmed up and started to move. Here he is nestled in my fleece hat. He’s just a few weeks old ... eyes still closed, very immature.

What to do with a chipmunk on a 15 mile hike? Especially a chipmunk that, now warmed up, is hungry and trying to nurse.

I smashed up some nuts and dried fruit from my trail mix, mixed it with water, and fed it to the eager baby with a syringe from my first aid kit.

Needing my hands free for the hike, I found the perfect spot for Chip ... I emptied the water from my Nalgene bottle, put the fleece hat in the bottom to make a nice bed, and snuggled him inside. He had a good view of the rest of the hike, though it was a bit tinted ...

Back home, he gets his first real meal of chipmunk-appropriate formula.

In less than a week, his eyes are open!

As the days go by, he gets more and more mature.

Our header graphic says it all - WAHMs are often masters at multitasking. We learn quickly to work and nurse at the same time, to work and cook dinner at the same time, to work and read the Cat in the Hat at the same time…..or is all of this just at my house?

As a WAHM, I have a luxury that few working mothers have. I can spend time with my children during the day, and on a good day, accomplish something at the same time. On a bad day….well, that’s a whole ‘nother story that usually involves late nights and early mornings.

However, even the bad days are nowhere nearly as bad as the bad days used to be. I used to get up at five, nurse, pump, dress myself, dress the baby, and head off to daycare and work. Come home, nurse, cook dinner, put the baby to bed, and go on-call. Pumping sessions during my two 15 minute breaks at work, literally moving non stop from the time I got up to the time I fell into bed.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The looming threat of Hurricane Gustav forced President Bush to cancel his planned valedictory address before the GOP national convention Monday night.

For many delegates gathering here, that's not a bad thing.

Everyone assembled in St. Paul hates the circumstances that forced Bush's absence; concern about Gustav dominated every conversation. But given the deeply conflicted emotions that swirl around the president from within his party, Bush's decision to forgo the occasion saves Republicans an awkward moment.

The view toward Bush from this convention is complex. Some delegates praise him for a job well done. Others nurse resentments over a host of Bush actions — the government's botched and insensitive response to Hurricane Katrina, ironically, is at the top of that list.

But most feel a sense of disappointment for what might have been.

5.30pm: Dad is bent over the toilet bowl with a brush in his hand and a scowl on his face. I walk up to him. "Shall I give you a hand?" Dad begins to snigger, abandoning any attempt to make sense of the situation. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our backs to Mum, who paces around the landing with a newly fitted catheter in her hand.

The catheter has been put in by nurse Marianne to enable our GP, who will be with us in half an hour, to give Mum a lethal injection. But instead of having a moment of peace with us, as Marianne suggested, Mum demands that we clean the toilets. Both upstairs and downstairs.

My brother, Maarten, is sitting on the edge of the bath, staring out of the bathroom window.

"Imagine," he mutters. "Her last hour, spent like this."

This is the Netherlands, where voluntary euthanasia is permitted, as well as physician-assisted suicide. This is the day my mother has chosen to die, and the toilets need to be spotless.

Nurses posts brain surgery pictures on Facebook

A nurse posted photos of herself clutching a lump of human flesh beside a patient having a brain operation for her Facebook page.

Her job at a hospital in Stockholm is now at risk after she put 14 photos from a brain surgery and a back operation to her account on the popular social networking site.

One showed the operating assistant holding indeterminate parts of the patient's body.

Cameras are banned from operating theatres unless they are intended as teaching aids for students. It appears that the nurse, who is unnamed for legal reasons, used her mobile phone.

The woman, who has been suspended, is said to be "devastated" by her actions. It seems she wanted to impress her friends with her high powered job.

It is not the first time that Facebook has got employees into trouble.

Last month Crystal Palace footballer Ashley-Paul Robinson embarrassed his club when he posted a message on the site saying he was having a trial with Fulham FC.

Nurse suspended for brain surgery Facebook photos

A Swedish nurse has been suspended from her job after she used the camera from her mobile phone to take pictures of a brain surgery operation she was participating in. She then posted the pictures to her Facebook account.

She was apparently trying to impress her Facebook friends with her cool job - “look I’m staring straight at someone’s brain! That beats you flipping burgers any day of the week!”

Needless to say, the hospital where she worked totally flipped out and suspended her. The photos have apparently been removed from the Facebook account and she is said to be “devastated”.

How did she think this scenario was going to play out? With a big fat promotion and pay raise? Plus the surgeons who stood there and watched her take the pictures should be disciplined too - and that doesn’t even begin to address the lawsuit possibilities when the patient finds out that his brain was on a social network!

I don't mean to make light of the personal responsibility of the patient, but it just boggles my mind and it is so sad; sad beyond belief. I see 40 year olds that I know won't live another 10 years.

Suffering from excruciating spinal deterioration, Robby Garvin, 24, of South Carolina, tried many painkillers before his doctor prescribed methadone in June 2006, just before Mr. Garvin and his friend Joey Sutton set off for a weekend at an amusement park.

On Saturday night Mr. Garvin called his mother to say, “Mama, this is the first time I have been pain free, this medicine just might really help me.” The next day, though, he felt bad. As directed, he took two more tablets and then he lay down for a nap. It was after 2 p.m. that Joey said he heard a strange sound that must have been Robby’s last breath.

Methadone, once used mainly in addiction treatment centers to replace heroin, is today being given out by family doctors, osteopaths and nurse practitioners for throbbing backs, joint injuries and a host of other severe pains.

MINNEAPOLIS—A Hennepin County Medical Center volunteer and nurse were separately attacked by the same three suspects.

Reiner Schonolling was attacked Tuesday morning by three Somali teenagers on bikes.

The suspect who hit him said he does not like white Americans.

Just one hour before the attack, the suspects punched Robin Cooper who is a nurse at HCMC.

The attacks happened at Elliot Park in downtown Minneapolis along 8^th Street.

“I believe they picked on someone they thought they can get away with,” says Cooper.

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (CNN) -- Camryn Jakeb Wilson was bathed in TV lights the day he was born, celebrated on the local news as Summit County's 2008 New Year's baby after his arrival at 12:33 a.m. on January 1.

Just 12 weeks later, he was bathed in warm water minutes after he quietly died in his mother's arms, the victim of shaken baby syndrome. Camryn's 9-year-old sister, Tabatha, asked why he needed a bath now.

"We have to get him ready to go to Jesus," a nurse softly replied. Tabatha took up a sponge to help.

Camryn's father, Craig R. Wilson, 28, of Cuyahoga Falls, is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on murder and other charges August 20. Police say he confessed to shaking and squeezing the infant after arguing with his wife, Crystal Wilson.

The California condor, rescued from extinction in an elaborate and expensive recovery effort, has become tantamount to a zoo animal in the wild and can't survive on its own without a ban on lead ammunition across its vast western ranges, a scientific study has concluded.

They must be frequently trapped, tested and treated for lead poisoning. They depend on man-made "feeding stations," a buffet of lead-free carcasses of rats, deer, stillborn calves and other animals, a practice that has damaged their ability to forage.

So much effort is required to feed, nurse and protect wild condors, the scientists wrote, "that one might argue that they constitute little more than outdoor zoo populations."

"Poisoning from ingestion of spent ammunition in carcasses is so severe and chronic," the panel concluded, "that condor recovery cannot be achieved so long as such lead exposure continues."
