In ancient times, Cyrenaica in eastern Libya existed as a kind of Mediterranean island, separated from the rest of Africa by the desert and linked to Crete and mainland Greece by the sea. Excavations show the Aegeans visited this part of Africa (known today as Barqa), where they traded with the local population, as early as the 14th century BC. It was here, according to myth, that the Argonauts received pledges, in the form of a handful of earth offered them by Eurypylos, the local deity.

Exposing the Bi-Partisan Myth of Clean Coal

There’s at least one topic the candidates in the US elections won’t be wrangling over: so-called “clean” coal. That’s because they all support it.

Since 2000, McCain has accepted nearly three times the donations from the coal industry as Obama and Biden combined ($51,850 for McCain versus $17,100 and $3,000 for Obama and Biden, respectively).

And yet even as Obama raises the progressive voice on a number of issues, he has proclaimed the virtues of “clean” coal as widely and vociferously as McCain.

Clean coal is a farce.

Trouble is, there’s no such thing as “clean” coal. It’s a marketing myth promoted by the big coal companies in order to rake in more public subsidies. Here’s why “clean coal” is a farce and should be opposed at every turn:

According to Time, McCain campaign staffers in Virginia are teaching volunteers to see Barack Obama as having terrorist 'friends,' and then providing these volunteers with arguments for persuading voters that Sen. Obama, like Osama Bin Laden, shares responsibility for bombings of the Pentagon.

The report from inside the McCain campaign brings to light an alarming fact: while McCain tells his supporters publicly to refrain from violent rhetoric, he continues to teach his volunteers rhetoric designed to elicit violent responses.

The report confirms that the McCain campaign has staked its chances of winning the Presidency on convincing the public that Barack Obama is on the wrong side of the 'War on Terror' and, therefore, his victory in the Presidential election would put the power of the White House in the hands of terrorists.

Talent might make a difference, but it is not the deciding factor for one’s success. Many talented individuals go to waste because they expect creative work to come easy for them and are frustrated when it doesn’t. They don’t realize that apart from the talent they bring to the table, they also have to work long hours, learn from their mistakes, and constantly make the effort to be better. Without these, talent is just a collection of fluff dreams that don’t make it to reality.

Motivation and perseverance outweigh talent every time. Remember that the next time you hesitate to embark on creative work.

There’s a stereotype about creative people - that they thrive on flexibility, rebel against rigid rules, and are subjected to the forces of inspiration (or lack thereof). If this stereotype is true, then it’s amazing that creative people get anything done at all, let alone get anything done on time!

Obviously, the stereotype is a myth. Creative people can be efficient, and, conversely, efficiency can be expected of creative types - even if it seems impossible.

So how can it be made possible? How can creative people become more organized and productive?

Give ample time for brainstorming and idea generation.

Know how to set the perfect deadline for your creative tasks.

Just pick one idea and get on with it.

Know that as long as you can find something within 5 seconds, you’re doing fine

Comments: We are asked to believe that Senator Barack Obama, who for 20 years has professed to be a practicing Christian and has spoken publicly of his "personal relationship with Jesus Christ," is in fact secretly a Muslim and has lied all along about his true religious affiliation.

No proof is offered by those who make these claims -- no sightings of Barack Obama attending a mosque, no pictures of him reading the Koran, praying to Mecca, or observing Islamic holidays with his family. The entire case, such as it is, rests on a confused and error-ridden recitation of Obama's upbringing and purported childhood influences. It also rests on -- or exploits -- a deep fear and mistrust of the Muslim faith.

Is it true that when Obama was sworn into office he used the Koran (Qur'an) instead of the Bible?

Those making this allegation have apparently confused Obama with Congressman Keith Ellison, who actually is a Muslim and was sworn in on January 4, 2007 using a copy of the Koran.

In Ancient Greece, Soil Was Sacred

Greek temples honored specific gods and goddesses, and now new research suggests that even the dirt under such buildings held spiritual significance.

The discovery could help explain why writers like Homer and Plato wrote of "divine soil" and soil that can affect a person's soul. It may also explain how the ancients selected locations for their sacred buildings.

Retallack, a professor of geological sciences at the University of Oregon, took soil samples from 84 Greek temple sites dating to the Classical Age from 480 to 338 B.C. Based on analysis of each sample, he created a profile for the soils naming their characteristics and how they might have been used at the time.

Retallack noticed a pattern: The soil appeared to be directly connected to the mythology surrounding the god or goddess honored by the particular temple. Buildings dedicated to Athena and Zeus, for example, were erected on soils of citadels.

The Virgo Mystery

Virgo is perhaps the last sign without its own planetary ruler. The mythology of the sign can give us clues as to where this ruler might be. My favorite is the Persephone myth which sees her as being abducted into Pluto's underworld where she is forced to be his wife for six months months of the year. This upsets her mother who causes the Earth to be cold and unyielding for the time that she is away from her.

Persephone is also known as Prosperine and Kore or Core which can mean the center of the Earth or where our word "corn" comes from. Persephone is an agricultural godess, as is her mother Demeter or Ceres, but she also has the distinction of being the queen of the underworld. She is always pictured as holding an ear of grain in her hand.

Obama’s Poems Show Real Talent

Of note, Politico observes that “the temperate legal language doesn't display the rhetorical heights that run through his memoir, published a few years later.”

But then somehow, those few years later, this 33 year-old amateur with no paper trail beyond a hack legal note and a poem about fig-stomping apes produced what Time Magazine has called--with a straight face-- “the best-written memoir ever produced by an American politician.”

The public is asked to believe that Obama did this on his own, almost as though he were some sort of literary idiot savant. I don’t buy this canard for a minute.

To enhance the science of this literary investigation, I made some inquiries into the academy. . .he encouraged me instead “to do what you're already doing . . . good old-fashioned literary detective work.”

Given that advice, I dug deeper into the memoir of the man who, I believe, tortured Dreams From My Father . . .

Prior to 1990, when Barack Obama contracted to write Dreams From My Father, he had written very close to nothing.

As an undergraduate at Occidental College, Obama had composed what he calls some “very bad poetry,” and he does not sell himself short.

In 1981, Occidental’s literary magazine published two of Obama’s poems—“Pop” and “Underground.” These poems are only a little sillier than the average undergraduate’s, but they show not a glint of promise. From “Underground”:

Los Angeles media critic Kevin Roderick rightly described the exposure of Obama’s two published poems as a “semi-cruel exercise."

In a similar spirit, the Independent of London headlined its article on Obama’s early poetry, “Pop goes myth of Obama the young prodigy.”

It would be another decade before Obama had anything in print and this a heavily edited, unsigned student case comment in the Harvard Law Review unearthed by Politico.

Attorneys who reviewed the piece for Politico described it charitably as “a fairly standard
