It has become pro forma to invoke God's blessing on the US after all speeches. Little thought is given to the substantial segment of the population who doesn't subscribe to this viewpoint. A cynic might think all the public posturing is being done solely for votes. And they may not be too far off the mark.

Clip Source: atheism.about.com

Democrats' Religious Pandering Doesn't Impress

Recent efforts by Democrats to pander to religion and religious believers is offensive and immoral, but could it possibly be defended on the grounds that it at least works? In politics that which works tend to survive no matter how offensive or immoral it is, so this isn't an irrelevant question. Unfortunately for the apologists for pandering — and fortunately for the rest of us — all the efforts thus far appear to have been in vain.

Using religion as a surrogate for substantive political discussion is precisely what's going on when people start bringing religion into political debates

When a person says that God "wills" some policy, the only options left are to deny that it's what God really wills or to declare one's opposition to God.

I think this is often deliberate because invoking God is a handy way of avoiding the hard job of substantively defending a political agenda.

It was “invented” about 150 years ago by American evangelist Charles Finney and popularized by Dwight Moody and especially Billy Graham. The people who come to the altar say a sinner’s prayer and accept Jesus as their Lord and savior."

Clip Source: www.buffalonews.com

Q: I’ve attended two memorial services in two weeks, both at nondenominational Christian churches (I’m Catholic). Toward the end of each service, both of which were respectful and quite lovely, the minister announced an “altar call,” stating that Jesus was the only way to salvation, and that those who had not come to Jesus should do so at that very instant! This exercise lasted a good 10 minutes.

I’m a pluralist, so I don’t believe accepting Jesus is the only path to salvation, and I was very uncomfortable for my Jewish and Muslim friends in attendance. Is this a new trend? Is it appropriate? It seems as though the minister was taking advantage of a captive audience. However, no matter how offended anyone might have been personally, no one was going to be disrespectful by walking out.

Tags: religion, belief, christian, christianity, church, respect

<clipSource>http://www.buffalonews.com/lifearts/religion/story/410542.html</clipSource>

Special Clothing For Somali Muslim Janitorial Workers

clipped by: Smoke TNT
clipper's remarks: Wahmbulance alert. Who wears the pants at Sky Harbor airport?

Not 30 Somali women who fought for the right to wear skirts on the job, and won.

The Muslim women balked at a planned policy change by their employer, GCA Services, (that's GCA's logo pictured above), that would have forced them to wear pants and a tucked-in shirt as they did their janitorial duties.

They'd been previously allowed to wear skirts; pants are too immodest for them.

Lisa Gopolan, a spokesperson for CAIR's Arizona office, says she wears blue jeans occasionally and that the decision to wear pants or not is a personal decision. The Somali women are expressing their culture as well as their religion in wanting to wear skirts, and she didn't think other Muslim women who work at the airport would necessarily demand different attire.

Tags: muslims, islam, islamofascism

<clipSource>http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2008/08/sky_harbor_allows_special_clot.php</clipSource>

Barack Hussein Obama

clipped by: kscottyoung

Clip Source: www.danielpipes.org

Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood

<clipSource>http://www.danielpipes.org/article/5544</clipSource>

UNC grad gets up to 33 years for plowing SUV into campus crowd in bid to 'avenge Muslim deaths'

clipped by: Smoke TNT

Clip Source: www.startribune.com

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C.

In an interesting twist on the American experience, prayer will remain legal in schools - after all, it has no truth value.
Attacks on their campus have forced students at a Christian college in Indonesia’s capital to take refuge in tents and in the lobby of the parliament building for nearly a month, while the theology school has agreed to relocate out of a predominantly Muslim neighborhood, the Associated Press reported.

The first assaults on the Arastamar Evangelical School of Theology, which is also known as Seta College, took place on July 25, when residents of the neighborhood in Jakarta entered the campus with machetes and Molotov cocktails. At the Tuesday-morning meeting with committee staffers, Biden launches into a stream-of-consciousness monologue about what his committee should be doing, before he finally admits the obvious: "I'm groping here." Then he hits on an idea: America needs to show the Arab world that we're not bent on its destruction. "Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran," Biden declares. He surveys the table with raised eyebrows, a How do ya like that? look on his face.

The staffers sit in silence. Finally somebody ventures a response: "I think they'd send it back." Then another aide speaks up delicately: "The thing I would worry about is that it would almost look like a publicity stunt." Still another reminds Biden that an Iranian delegation is in Moscow that very day to discuss a $300 million arms deal with Vladimir Putin that the United States has strongly condemned.

Tags: biden, 9/11, muslim world, iran, putin's arms sales to iran

<clipSource>http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/08/obama-biden-lad.html</clipSource>

Ramadan fasters can use diet patches

clipped by: kkcapricorn
clipper's remarks: Well now I have heard it all.
