Safe Passage will host its fifth annual Benefit Festival. Safe Passage is a project caring for kids who live with their families at the garbage dump in Guatemala City. This year Barbara Nijhuis, the new executive director of Safe Passage, will join the exciting Triangle singing group Tres Chicas and nationally renowned magician Joshua Lozoff in an evening of celebration and compassion. Pete Tong, William Morris Create Electronic Music Talent Agency

Pete Tong has teamed with the William Morris to develop the agency’s roster of electronic music talent. Dubbed William Morris Electronic, the new division will be headed by New York-based booking agent Joel Zimmerman.

Tong will be in charge of signing, developing and representing electronic acts, as well as creating and programming electronic music programs. As part of the expansion, Zimmerman will oversee William Morris Electronic. As the founder of electronic music-focused booking firm Division One, Zimmerman has booked artists in the genre for the past eight years. During the past two-and-a-half years, Zimmerman has worked in conjunction with William Morris Agency to book such acts as Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, Pendulum, the Crystal Method, LCD Soundsystem and Basement Jaxx.

Today’s economic crisis doesn’t seem to have reached the 769 high school students polled in Piper Jaffray’s 16th bi-annual survey of teenage buying patterns and preferences.

The survey, conducted at several apparently well-heeled high schools in the United States over the past few weeks — while the global financial markets were melting down — focused on MP3 players, online music and Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone.

The results, released late Tuesday, may say more about the demographics of the population Piper Jaffray is testing than the buying power of most U.S. teenagers, but they will be music to Steve Jobs’s ears.

According to senior research analyst Gene Munster, who directed the study:

8% own iPhones, up from from 6% in Spring 2008.

22% of students surveyed expect to buy an iPhone in the next 6 months, up from 9% in Spring 2008.

Of students expecting to buy a mobile phone, 33% specified an iPhone.

Of the 40% of students who legally purchase music online, 93% said they use iTunes

Once the hits had dried up and he was released from his Capitol Records contract, there were one or two more reports in the trade papers of the day - he was reported in August 1954 as playing The Blue Note in Chicago with modern jazzer Gerry Mulligan (!) - and then nothing! What happened? Did his voice break? Did the novelty of an infant boogie virtuoso suddenly lose its appeal when he hit 12? Was he really found out to be an adolescent midget in disguise? Last year it was announced that a 62 year-old "Sugar Chile" Robinson had been rediscovered living in Detroit, where he has worked mainly outside music for almost 50 years (although he is rumoured to be the same Frank Robinson who co-owned the obscure Detroit-based soul label, Lando Records, in the 1960s) , and was brought out of retirement to pound the ivories once again at a music festival which celebrated pre-Motown music from the Motor City.
