World's biggest yacht blows in

THE world's biggest sailing yacht docked in Darwin with little fanfare.

The 93m Eos luxury super yacht's arrival was delayed twice but it finally moored at Fort Hill Wharf around 1pm on Saturday.

The multimillion-dollar yacht, owned by media mogul Barry Diller and his wife, fashion giant Diane von Furstenberg, made the trip to Darwin from Fremantle.

The Eos superyacht can sleep as many as 16 people in plush accommodations and has a crew of 21.

Designed by luxury yacht leader Lurssen, no extravagance has been left out of the craft, which also includes a 4m world map mural.

Launching of the three-mast 92.92m craft in 2006 knocked the 88.09m Athena off the perch for the title of world's largest sailing yacht.

The Eos has spent most of it's time in dock in Venice, but has also been seen at luxury destinations throughout Europe.

100 foot long mural, made entirely by volunteers, with solely scavenged or found materials. One individual at City Year, a after school program helping students at Marquette School (Chicago's 2nd largest Public School) looked across the street from her classroom, and decided to make a difference.

The pressure wash of the buff had removed the original paint of the fence. The property owners gave permission, when told about the project. Asking if a spanish translation could be incorporated as well.

Each letter included images of students in the program. Tip Toe cut stencils from the children's photos, having this be a surprise to the children. None of them knew they would have 3 foot tall images of their faces, until they saw them on the fence.

'Desecrated flag' video is DNC finalist

One of the 20 finalists in health care video contest run by Barack Obama’s campaign arm features a mural of an America flag splattered with health care graffiti until it’s covered completely by black paint.

In the video – which is accompanied by the sound of a heart monitor pumping and then flat-lining – words such as “pre-existing conditions,” “homeless” and “death panel” ultimately obliterate the flag, which reappears on screen seconds later with the words “Health Will Bring Our Country Back to Life” on the blue field where the 50 stars usually are.

According to the Organizing for American Web site, the 20 finalists in the “Health Reform Video Challenge” were chosen by a panel of “qualified” Democratic National Committee “employee judges.”

A spokesman for Organizing for America said the group was not prepared to provide immediate comment on the video, which, according to the OFA Web site, was produced by Daniel Lahoda and Saber.

According to the OFA Web site, the 20 finalists will be judged by the public and a panel of experts that includes DNC Chairman Tim Kaine, Obama campaign chief David Plouffe, Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.), singer will.i.am and Hollywood stars Rosario Dawson and Dule Hill.

The East Side Gallery is the longest preserved stretch of the former Berlin Wall.

It is the largest open-air gallery in the world with 106 original mural paintings on 1.3 km-long created by artists from all over the world after the collapse of East Germany.

Today, it is being renovated for the Commemorations of the 20th anniversary of the "Fall of the Wall"

clipper's remarks: A wall facing the fallen federal building in Oklahoma City - America's first public experience with massive terrorism - became the focus of a temporary tape art mural dedicated to the victims and those helping to find victims and survivors. That project began just four days after the bombing and they were still searching for survivors.

The following text was written in 1995 to describe our experiences at Oklahoma City, amidst the aftermath of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah building on 19th April. We were half-way through our tour of 40 states when we arrived in Oklahoma. Little did we know that our experiences there were about to redefine Tape Art as a healing tool and demonstrate that public artists can play a pivotal role in times of crisis.

We also described our idea for a Hope mural which we proposed to make for the rescue workers.

The mural attracted people. It seemed to provide a kind of catalyst for discussion.

The Hope mural, unlike most all of our murals which are removed within a day, is still up in the now quiet Myriad conference center.

To rescue workers, the angelic mural on the wall at the Myriad Convention Center provided comfort in the days following the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

The characters are unorthodox, even ambiguous, and largely hidden. But, she pointed out, it could hardly be random coincidence to find just those letters in that sequence.

I'm now convinced that Pollock wrote his name in large letters on the canvas—indeed, arranged the whole painting around his name. As far as I can tell, no one has previously made this assertion. Nor is there evidence that Pollock himself, who was loath to talk about his art and left behind few written records, ever mentioned this coded gesture.

I've shared my theory with several Pollock experts. They've had mixed reactions, from "no way" to "far-fetched" to "maybe."

Murals from "The Mural Capital of Texas"

In November, 1999, we wrote: One of the ongoing projects of the Main Street Cities Program is their award winning series of murals depicting Breckenridge's past. Airbrush artist Billy Ines provides the talent, while Main Street Manager Shelly Hargrove coordinates. Just short of "photo-realism", the murals are inspired by vintage oil boomtown photographs by Basil Clemons currently housed at the Swenson Memorial Museum. At last count there were six and they range from excellent to fantastic. Most are around the town's major intersection (Hwys 180 and 183).

They now have a total of eight murals, and another two in the works.

And now: January 19, 2001 - We were notified by William Myers that Breckenridge has been proclaimed "The Mural Capital of Texas". This designation was passed by the Texas Legislature on January 17, 2001. Our congratulations to Breckenridge and our thanks to Mr. Myers for notifying us of the good news.

A giant tiled wall of jewel-toned loops and curves — one of the last commissions by the Conceptual artist Sol LeWitt — was unveiled in the 59th Street-Columbus Circle subway station by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority last week.

LeWitt, who died two years ago, was known for wall drawings that involved meticulously detailed instructions to his seasoned crew. This project, a permanent installation, was his first in porcelain tile and employs the same color palette — deeply saturated tones of blue, green, yellow, orange, red and purple — that he used in his acrylic wall drawings.

This is not photoshopped. This building mural, a trompe-l’oeil, is located in Georges V Ave. in Paris, France. ‘ Trompe-l’oeil ‘ is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects really exist, instead of being just two-dimensional paintings. The name is derived from French for “trick the eye”, from tromper - to deceive and l’oeil - the eye. Link here.

Absolutely not, says Christopher Knight, an art critic (a real one) for the Los Angeles Times. Beck was as “nutty as usual,” Knight wrote:

He pointed to a portrait of Lenin in Mexican master Diego Rivera’s destroyed Rockefeller lobby mural, “Man at the Crossroads,” but forgot to mention that old John D. had the mural removed because of it. (Facts are stubborn things — even more stubborn than demagoguery.) With comedy stylings like that, Beck is turning out to be the Harold Harby of our day.

Who was Harold Harby? A Los Angeles city councilman in the early 1950s, Harby took up propaganda-arms with a paranoid group of right-wing loonies called the Society for Sanity in Art. They made it their patriotic duty to search out Communist symbols they just knew were hidden in that weird, postwar abstract art.

Over the past few years, Beck has worn many hats, only a few of them constructed from tin foil: Ardent opponent of President Barack Obama. Pal of Palin. High-pitched radio host nonpareil. Notoriously emotional prognosticator. Best-selling author. Self-described Libertarian. Leader of the crusade against ACORN.

Now, Glenn Beck is an art critic

Beck launched a lengthy and rambling investigation of the “communist” art splayed across the face of Rockefeller Center

he went on to accuse John D. Rockefeller, whose family developed the plaza, of supporting communism and fascism. (Apparently one can believe in both at once.)

let us sketch this out a little for you. Rockefeller Center is home to MSNBC, which airs “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.” Olbermann and Maddow are progressives

But, if we look closer…there is an unsolved mystery surrounding this mural.

"The stars, which at the terminal's opening were professed to be accurate enough to teach school children the firmament, are in fact reversed, north to south, with the exception of the Orion constellation. The way they got that way is the subject of considerable speculation, according to a 1994 report by Deborah Rau on the ceiling's history.

So it appears the medieval manuscript used for the design of Grand Central Terminal was Bayer’s Uranometria of 1603, or was it?
