First Mr Gay UK 'chopped up man and then planned to eat his flesh'

The first winner of the Mr Gay UK contest has been charged with murdering a man amid fears he planned to eat the corpse.

Anthony Morley, 35, was held after Damian Oldfield's body was found at a house in Harehills, Leeds, with a chunk cut out of the right leg.

Police are said to have found human flesh diced as though "for cooking".

Officers are now having to consider the possibility that the killer had "eaten some of the flesh."

They were alerted after a man, covered in blood and wearing a white nightgown and slippers, went into a nearby kebab shop.

Police discovered advertising executive Mr Oldfield, 33, had been stabbed to death.

Morley, from Doncaster, was crowned Mr Gay UK in 1993 when he was 20.

Morley will appear before Leeds JPs next week and is then expected to be sent to Crown Court for trial.

Mr Oldfield worked for gay magazine Bent. He knew Morley but they were not thought to be partners.

Sorry, I'm not buying it and I personally find it very offensive. Just go back to the list and see the insults; they are all directed towards either gays or women.

A UK teachers group reports that "gay" is now the #1 most frequently used abusive insult at schools.

No doubt the words would be slightly different in American schools, but here are the words teachers report are being used abusively in UK schools (number indicates percentage of teachers who reported that word as a term of abuse).

Gay 'weddings' top 15,500 in UK

There were 15,672 partnerships between December 2005 and September 2006, the Office for National Statistics said.

There were 14,084 partnerships in England, 537 in Wales, 942 in Scotland and 109 in Northern Ireland.

Almost 2,000 partnerships took place last December when the Civil Partnership Act 2004 came into force.

The act gives same-sex couples rights in areas such as employment and pensions, but the partnerships are not officially regarded as marriages.

On average, 1,621 partnerships took place each month between January and March and this fell to 1,498 between July and September, said the ONS.

More men have so far chosen civil partnerships, making up 62% of partnerships in England, 57% in Scotland, 56% in Northern Ireland and 51% in Wales.

However, the ONS said the ratio between men and women appeared to be changing.

"The gap between the proportion of male and female partnerships in England and Scotland appears to be reducing over time," the ONS said.

In London, there were around three times as many male partnerships as female partnerships.

Meanwhile, Peter Tatchell, of campaign group OutRage, has called on Chancellor Gordon Brown to protect the benefit rights of gays and lesbians in his pre-Budget report on Wednesday.

He claims rule changes introduced when the Partnership Act became law has resulted in the removal of social security benefits from thousands of same-sex partners who have not taken out a civil partnership, including those who plan not to.

Mr Tatchell wants benefit claimants in cohabiting same-sex relationships to be given transitional financial protection.

He is the poster boy of the BNP, an articulate former teacher whose blue eyes and easy charm helped win the far-right party 11 council seats in Barking, east London. But now Richard Barnbrook, London leader of the BNP, has been forced to deny that an erotic movie he produced and directed as a student was a gay porn film.

HMS Discovery: A Love Story contains scenes of flagellation, men undressing and frolicking in a river and a naked man apparently performing a sex act on another. While this may be hard for supporters of a party opposed to the "promotion" of homosexuality to swallow, Mr Barnbrook's transgressions get worse: the 58-minute film, made in 1989, is described as "Marxist" by one film website.

"It was an art film, end of story. It was not a bloody porn film," said Mr Barnbrook, now leader of the opposition on Barking council. "The only nudity in it is a couple of guys running in a river. It is not about homosexuality. It is about sexuality. Anything to do with my past politics or my past work, I am not interested in commenting on."

The existence of the film was first revealed in the Guardian before last year's general election, when Mr Barnbrook stood as a candidate in Barking. According to one cinema listing, Mr Barnbrook also starred in and co-wrote the film.

But yesterday he denied penning erotic poetry set to the footage, which includes the lines: "It bares you like a foreskin's folds" and "Open-mouthed, I shall dream of altar boys."

Mr Barnbrook was a painter, conceptual artist and art teacher before turning to rightwing politics. Searchlight, the anti-fascist organisation, has suggested he was also a Labour party member at one stage. Fellow extremists appear to take a dim view of Mr Barnbrook's colourful past. On one rightwing website, a poll has been created next to a picture of the BNP man asking: "Is this a poofter or what?"
