Once again, the words most spoken in these cases were said...."My Mother would NEVER leave me!" This young girl told us that even in the past when her mother would leave the home, the first thing she ALWAYS did was gather up the children.

So many daughters, and sons, remember the harsh words spoken in the past and wish more than anything that they would have a second chance to take them all back and let their mothers know how much they really love them. They would be willing to live up to every bargain they made with God just to have that second chance.

Why does this particular pitbull in lipstick infuriate — and scare us — so viscerally? Why does her very existence make us feel — and act — so ugly?

Palin is a symbol for everything we hoped was not true in the world anymore. We hoped that we didn't have to hide our ambition or pretend that our goals were effortlessly achieved ("I never really set out to be in public affairs, much less to run for this office," the Governor has said.) We hoped that we could be mothers without having our motherhood be our defining characteristic, as it seems to be for Palin. We hoped that we did not have to be perfect beauty queens to get to where we wanted to be in life, that our looks, good or bad, wouldn't matter. Whether or not you think it's appropriate to comment on Palin's appearance, the fact of her attractiveness exists, and is being used to her advantage by Republican sloganeers ("the hottest Governor in the coldest state," et. al).

In a small pilot study of 20 families, the non-profit environmental group tested blood samples from mothers and their young children -- ages 18 months to four years -- for the presence of PBDEs, a hormone-disrupting chemical.

In 19 of the 20 families, concentrations of PBDEs were typically three times as high in children as in their mothers, said Sonya Lunder, the study's author. One child had six times the level of the chemical that was detected in her mother.

Watch Sarah Palin, supposedly 8 months pregnant, in this interview, in which she also consumes a latte and fudge (i.e. plenty of caffeine), something that doctors strongly urge pregnant mothers not to do. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin wrote in her line-item veto changes by hand in this copy of a 2008 spending bill obtained by The Washington Post.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

According to Passage House's web site, its purpose is to provide "young mothers a place to live with their babies for up to eighteen months while they gain the necessary skills and resources to change their lives" and help teen moms "become productive, successful, independent adults who create and provide a stable environment for themselves and their families."

Palin's own daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant and has plans to wed.

US Military Deaths, Just a Number

These words used in the article seem to detach themselves from the fact that "our " brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, husbands, and friends are being killed in a war with Iraq.

It makes me think that people may be viewing this as just " war " and maybe compared to " the Vietnam War " and not as " the war on terrorism " or " the fight for freedom."

Maybe " that " is why people protest this war, not against the soldiers that are led there, but " the Politics behind it ".

I may be wrong and you may not care what I think, but I hope " I still have the freedom ", to say it.

2 US soldiers killed in Baghdad roadside bomb

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed two American soldiers patrolling eastern Baghdad on Thursday, the U.S. military said, announcing the first combat deaths in the capital in a week.

With security vastly improved in Baghdad since the U.S. troop buildup last year, the number of American soldiers killed on the streets of the Iraqi capital has declined sharply.

The casualties were the first suffered by the American military in the capital since Aug. 28 when a soldier was killed in a roadside bombing. Another soldier died Tuesday in Baghdad of non-hostile causes, the military said.

The latest deaths brought to at least 4,153 the number of U.S. military members who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

Million bank details sold on eBay

A computer hard disc containing one million sets of bank details was bought on eBay for just £35.

The secondhand PC contained details of customers from American Express, NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland. The files included names, addresses, sort codes, account numbers, credit card numbers, mobile phone numbers, mothers' maiden names and even scans of signatures - more than enough for an identity thief.

IT manager Andrew Chapman paid £35 for the secondhand machine on eBay. Chapman told The Mail on Sunday: "I couldn't believe it. In front of me was reams of extremely confidential information about thousands and thousands of people."

Although dwarfed by government data giveaways like the loss of 25m child benefit records, the data is potentially far more easily exploited by crooks.

A second computer is believed to be missing from the same site - archiving firm Graphic Data. The company said it was trying to find the second machine. ®

In a menacing world, McCain says, he will keep America safe. Codeine in mom's meds could harm breastfed infants

An estimated 80 percent of North American mothers breastfeed their babies. New research out of Canada suggests some mothers who take medicines which contain codeine may be inadvertently harming their breastfed infants.

The study done at the University of Western Ontario indicates some women have a rare genetic predisposition to metabolize codeine-laced drugs into morphine faster than normal.

The condition means morphine gets passed through the mother and can harm a nursing infant's central nervous system.

Doctors say the threat of overdosing the baby appears reversible if the mother stops taking the medication.

The study's findings are published in the online issue of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

clipper's remarks: I really can't understand how a governor could slash funds for teenage unwed mothers unless increasing their hardship is supposed to teach those sinners a lesson. I believe that is about the correct righteous tone that masquerades for apathy and stinginess in "fiscally prudent" circles these days.

Of course, if one wants to get really biblical about the matter, one could always consider the significance of "Whatever someone sows that also he reaps" if you get my meaning.

After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

I wonder how many pregnant teenagers in Alaska decided to go ahead and abort because they were homeless and broke and without the same resources and support that Bristol Palin enjoys.
