Certain Pets Targeted for Euthanization Because of Breed Profiling

Remember Michael Vick and his collection of fighting pit bulls? The Humane Society and PETA both lobbied to have Vick's fighting dog collection euthanized. However some intelligent pet lovers fought a little harder and won the right to rehabilitate these dogs. The result was nothing less than amazing. The dogs were provided with love and responsible training and are now loving family members living the life they deserve. For those who haven't been e-mailed the link under subject headings like "OMG, most amazing video ever!" "Dancing," which appeared on the Web on June 20, is a 4 1/2 -minute montage of a man named performing a joyfully spasmodic jig in various locations around the globe.

The video is undeniably moving. What's more, it manages to hit the sweet spot between slick commercialism and documentary-style "realness" in a way that appeals to jaded coolsters and more literal, sentimental types too. But let's understand something: "Dancing" (and its predecessors) is not an instrument of world peace. Nor is it, as one person I ran across exuberantly suggested, "a commercial for happiness."

What it is, I dare say, is a commercial for the power of commercials themselves. Leave aside the Stride component for the moment. Harding's latest is a pitch-perfect example of the kind of earthy-hipster-global-enviro chic that's become the advertising style du jour.

Bob Schieffer has an opportunity here to show himself to be a responsible journalist by putting the comments back in their proper context, i.e. when he makes his closing comments on Face the Nation. But I'm not holding my breath on that one!

Brandon, can you get the vets in your "Veterans Respond to General Clark's Comments" on video? YouTube would be a great vehicle for this.

No one has bothered to look at McCains voting record on vet issues for the last twenty years. He's voted no on practically every piece of legislation benefiting the VA. If he used his "military/vet/pow" creds to boost the VA, then I and many of my younger brothers and sisters from Iraq and Afghanistan would probably not have the serious problems they have getting their benefits.

Yes, America, that's your media hard at work smearing General Wesley Clark (Ret.)--the last U.S. general to win a war, and a man who left Vietnam on a stretcher after being shot four times.

I only saw CNN "reports" on this and just chalked them up to typically obtuse CNN "reportage". But, this montage gives whole new meaning to the complete and total incompetence and ineptitude of the media and their beloved pundits. If this is any indication of where this campaign is headed, then God help us all!

News anchors seem to be in a competition to see who can escalate and misinterpret a persons comments. Instead of actually thinking about what Gen. Clark was actually saying. It's a joke. Ridonkulous.

The video contains a montage of attacks throughout Iraq, and features two Kuwaiti al Qaeda operatives who conducted strikes in Mosul. One of the operatives was released from the US military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The Islamic State of Iraq used footage taken at Combat Outpost Inman by this reporter in Mosul in March of this year.

The military wing of the Sadrist Movement, the political party loyal to Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr, is “turning itself into a secret armed organization,” an Iraqi intelligence official told the Gulf News on condition of anonymity.

Iraqi intelligence reports suggest the group’s numbers have dwindled from around 50,000 to as few as 150 in the past few years.

Intelligence officials credit decisions by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to launch military offensives against Shiite militants in the southern parts of the country as deterring the group. An Iraqi intelligence official reports as many as 2,000 Mehdi Army fighters were killed in recent operations in Basra, Sadr City and the provincial capital of Maysan, Amarah.
