Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama and John McCain are
locked in a tight battle for president, with the Democrat
capitalizing on voter concern over the economy and energy and the
Republican benefiting from his experience and success in
neutralizing the issue of the unpopular Iraq war.

The latest Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll shows that
Obama, the first black major-party nominee, may have defused the
issue of race, particularly among independents who will form a
crucial voting bloc in the November election.

With the nominating conventions set to begin next week,
Illinois Senator Obama edges McCain 42 percent to 41 percent
among registered voters; minor-party candidates garner 5 percent.
In a head-to-head matchup excluding third-party candidates,
Obama has a 2-point advantage over Arizona Senator McCain.
The results are within the poll's margin of error of plus
or minus 3 percentage points.

Tags: obama, mccain, presidential race

<clipSource>http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20080819/pl_bloomberg/amroky_j7uo0</clipSource>

The Religeous Right has Co opted Christianity

clipped by: klippety
clipper's remarks: No, Iran does not have the same religion as the US. Spurred on by the Soviet Union's launch of Sputnik, the world's first satellite, and the concern that the U.S was falling behind in science and technology, U.S. policymakers enacted several policy actions to firmly establish the U.S. dominance in science and technology. Among them were the establishment of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the national Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), increased research funding, and a reformulation of the nation's science and technology education system.

<clipSource>http://www.planetary.org/programs/projects/advocacy_and_education/space_advocacy/20080818.html</clipSource>

McCain: "tough, decisive, experienced" mastery of foreign affairs??

clipped by: izzy3r

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

Of course the crisis in Georgia is just the latest example of how the War in Iraq has massively limited American's ability to respond to this -- or any other -- security crisis.

America already had one major military operation underway in Afghanistan when the Bush administration -- with McCain's full support -- recklessly poured most of our other military assets into the invasion of Iraq. For me John represents the entrenched and bankrupt policies of Washington-as-usual. The past 7 years have proven to be disastrous for our country. And I believe John's views on war, foreign policy, economics, environment, health care, education, national infrastructure and other important areas are much the same as those of the Bush administration."

"I'm disappointed to see John represent himself politically in ways that are not accurate.
