IF you think way back to the start of this marathon campaign, back when it seemed preposterous that any black man could be a serious presidential contender, then you remember the biggest fear about Barack Obama: a crazy person might take a shot at him.

After consultation with Congress, Michael Chertoff, the homeland security secretary, gave Obama a Secret Service detail earlier than any presidential candidate in our history — in May 2007, some eight months before the first Democratic primaries.

At McCain-Palin rallies, the raucous and insistent cries of “Treason!” and “Terrorist!” and “Kill him!” and “Off with his head!” as well as the uninhibited slinging of racial epithets, are actually something new in a campaign that has seen almost every conceivable twist

They now can UNLEASH the bottled up hatred, in the open and have a recognizable foe, thanks to the self-proclaimed pit-bull. ABORTION has been legalised in Victoria.

Just after 10.30 last night, a historic vote in State Parliament gave women the right to choose to have an abortion free from the threat of criminal prosecution.

The conscience vote of upper house MPs prompted tears of joy from veteran pro-choice campaigners, including Jo Wainer, in the public gallery.

Former Labor premier Joan Kirner hailed the vote as a victory for women after a 35-year campaign to take abortion out of the Crimes Act.

But the 23 to 17 vote for decriminalisation was also greeted with cries of "You've got blood on your hands" from anti-abortion protesters.

Four pro-life activists were forcibly evicted from the public gallery amid angry and emotional scenes. They condemned the vote as a green light for "state-sanctioned baby killing" and vowed to continue their vocal campaign.

Last night's conscience vote ended a marathon parliamentary debate that split the major parties.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

The bipartisan Legislative Council, which commissioned the investigation after Monegan was fired, unanimously adopted the 263-page public report after a marathon executive session Friday. When one is in the company of other fasting Muslims, the fast becomes a fun challenge, a group marathon of self-discipline that proves the Arabic saying "pain in company is joy".

Since the current edition, DSM-IV-TR, does not list “video game addiction,” the APA does not consider “video game addiction” to be a mental disorder at this time. If the science warrants it, this proposed disorder will be considered for inclusion in DSM-V, which is due to be published in 2012.”

A 2007 Harris poll reported that in the US 8.5% of youth gamers (ages 8 to 18) “can be classified as pathological or clinically ‘addicted’ to playing video games” while another 23% say they have “felt addicted” to video games.

It is extremely unlikely these figures represent an accurate depiction of the problem since, as the APA notes, there is no clinical classification for video game addiction; and further, it is unlikely any of those questioned were qualified to self-diagnose.

Detroit, MI - Two-year-old Tangena Hussain of Hamtramck, Michigan, was last seen at 8:45 on Thursday evening at the Marathon Gas Station in Detroit. Or was she? Her mother’s boyfriend (but not Tangena’s father) Jamrul Hussain, 27, says that Tangena was in the back seat of his car when he stopped at the gas station to buy candy and juice for the child. They were on their way to pick up Tangena’s mother, Nilufa Begum, from work at Northland Mall.

When Jamrul Hussain got back to his car, he said, Tangena was gone. But rather than call police or alert the store personnel, Hussain went to pick up Begum as scheduled, telling her that he would “take her to her daughter”. Instead, he took Begum back to the place where he said he lost her baby girl. Sound familiar, anyone?

clipper's remarks: They will approve this - just like all other bad decisions that have been made in haste. This still gives Wall Street the better deal then the tax payers. Also if you read through the draft that they put out, CEO's are still able to make $$. All the limit that was placed was a $500K cap on what a company can write off in the salary. So a company can compensate in other ways and thus nothing has changed. Likewise any CEO's/Execs who have a plan currently in place are grandfathered in. At least that is how I interpreted what I read in the draft.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. lawmakers on Sunday were set to sign off on a deal to create a $700 billion fund to buy bad debt from ailing banks in a bid to stem an escalating credit crisis that threatened to engulf the global economy.

U.S. congressional leaders had pushed talks into the early morning on Sunday to nail down the bailout deal in the hope of halting a downward spiral in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

The high-stakes negotiations over the financial rescue package had roiled financial markets and altered the course of the U.S. presidential campaign less than six weeks before the election.

"We've made great progress," House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters after the night of marathon closed-door talks. "We have to get it committed to paper so we can formally agree."

It was unclear when the House and Senate might vote on the legislation or whether last-minute hitches might arise.

German dentist extracts payment from patient

A German dentist overpowered a female patient in her home and yanked out two dental bridges from her mouth because she had failed to pay her bill.

The dentist from the Bavarian town of Neu-Ulm is now under investigation for assault and theft after arriving at the woman's home with his medical instruments to perform the unwanted surgery.

According to police, the dentist knocked on the door of the 35-year-old woman on Monday evening and without saying a word forced her into her living room and tied her hands.

In a scene reminiscent of the movie Marathon Man, he then forced open her mouth and removed the £320 worth of dental work which the woman's insurance company had refused to pay.

According to the victim, he never said a word.

"The dentist is being investigated for assault for the way he forced open her mouth, and theft for taking the bridges," said Christian Owsinski a police spokesman.

The bounce John McCain received in national opinion polls following his party's convention and the selection of Sarah Palin to the GOP presidential ticket appears to have evaporated, a new CNN poll of polls suggests.

“When we average the latest national polls, it is increasingly clear that neither candidate has any serious momentum at the moment,” said CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib. “The convention bounces have faded and left us with a dead heat. Even though we are now in the final stretch of this historic marathon campaign for the presidency, the White House is still genuinely up for grabs.”
