There is not much worse than being lost while driving and having no idea where to go. About a decade ago, if you got lost you had to pull out a big map and see if you can find your way back home with it. Remember how hard that was?

Lucky for use, technology pulled through and created GPS systems. But which GPS system is the best? Lately we have been receiving that question a lot and one thing has become clear to us. The best system is the Magellan GPS System.

Right now, we have twenty four GPS satellites circling the globe providing us with direction down to the nearest foot. GPS systems use to only be available for military purposes, but thankfully we are now able to use them in our every day lives..

In this week's edition of the science journal Nature, two international teams of astronomers report their observations of the most distant object yet seen in the Universe. Dubbed GRB 090423, the record-breaker is an example of a gamma-ray burst, the brightest and most violent explosions known to exist. The explosion is thought to accompany the catastrophic death of a very massive star as it ended its life, and is triggered by the centre of the star collapsing to form a black hole.

"This observation allows us to begin exploring the last blank space on our map of the Universe", said Professor Nial Tanvir, who led one of the teams.

Carrying the remains of a roughly 30-foot (9-meter) giant squid in her jaws, a female sperm whale, with a calf at her side, swims near the surface off Japan's Bonin Islands (map)in the northwestern Pacific. Taken on October 15, this and other "absolutely sensational" new pictures offer rare proof of the sperm whale's taste for giant squid, said giant squid expert Steve O'Shea of the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand.

The pictures may also reveal that adult sperm whales, which grow up to 59 feet (18 meters) long, use pieces of their prizes to teach youngsters how to catch their own, O'Shea told National Geographic News.

The group of five adults and one calf kept diving deep in unison, photographer Tony Wu told the Daily Mail. "It seemed as if the adult whales were trying to teach the baby to dive and also to eat squid," he said.

The world's eyes are focused on a small village called Argleton just off the A59 near Ormskirk, Lancashire. Camera crews have been dispatched. "Argleton" is fast becoming a popular hashtag on Twitter. There is even talk of merchandising opportunities.

The reason for all the interest is simple: Argleton doesn't actually exist. It is a phantom village that appears on Google Maps. You can search online for Argleton's local weather forecast (10C yesterday), property prices (not much for sale at the moment) or for the number of a local plumber, but in reality the village's coordinates point to little more than a muddy field.

This is what I wish the internet search will be able to do with a mobile device in the NEAR future. Touch screen, built in camera, scanner, WiFi, google map (hopefully google earth), google search, image search… all in one device. Like this way, when you can see a building through it, it gives you the image search result right on the spot.

To the End (of the season)

We saw the season to an end with some style - but with one less person in our on-piste party. Steele unfortunately had a pan-accident with some boiling water and pasta which badly burned his foot and he was unable to snowboard for the last few days. If there had been any way to get on a snowboard he definitely would have done so his readiness to stay in the van told us just how bad his foot was. No photos here because it’s too nasty-looking.

Do you know what the Google Local Search Results are?

Over the past few days I’ve been surveying my readers to find out if they knew anything about the Google Local Search.

Many of you did not know what I was on about, so that got me to thinking that I should create a video to show you what its all about and how it’s vital that you get your therapy practice in there.

The Google Local Search results are the 7 companies or organizations that appear at the top of the Google search results when you do a popular search in Google. i.e. when you do a search for “New York Therapist” then you’ll see that a map of New York appears and along side that map are the 7 Local organizations or individuals that Google believes to be the most relevant to that search term.
