Amanda Carpenter at Townhall wrote an interesting article yesterday about a man named Dr. Khalid Al-Mansour who helped Barack Obama get into Harvard Law School and also helped raise money for him. One major problem, as Carpenter pointed out, there are numerous videos of a Dr. Khalid Al-Mansour blasting Christians and Jews, including one video predicting the death of Christianity.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Several bombings across Baghdad killed 34 people Sunday -- the bloodiest day in the capital during this holy month of Ramadan, an Interior Ministry official said.

Also Sunday, in Iraq's Diyala province, at least four people were killed and 17 others wounded in several attacks, a security official in the province said.

The attacks came as Iraqis prepared for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan with feasts and celebrations. The holiday in Iraq begins Tuesday.

Twenty people were killed and 72 wounded in those attacks, which occurred in a busy commercial area in Karrada. Three women and four policemen were among the dead, and the wounded included seven policemen and women and children, the Interior Ministry said.

Earlier Sunday, a roadside bomb exploded near an Iraqi army patrol close to a restaurant in western Baghdad's al-Mansour district, killing one soldier and wounding three others.

Saudi Arabia’s most popular blogger, Fouad al-Farhan, has been detained for questioning, an Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed Monday. It was the first known arrest of an online critic in the kingdom.

Farhan, 32, who used his blog to criticize corruption and call for political reform, was detained “for violating rules not related to state security,” according to the spokesman, Maj. Gen. Mansour al-Turki, responding to repeated requests for comment with a brief cellphone text message.

One of the biggest truffles found in decades has fetched $330,000 (£165,000) at an auction held simultaneously in Macau, London and Florence

A Macau casino owner, Stanley Ho, made the record-breaking bid for the white truffle, which weighed 1.5kg (3.3lb).

Luciano Savini and his son found the highly-prized fungus after it was dug up by his truffle dog near Pisa, northern Italy, last week.

He said he was overwhelmed by the high price paid for his discovery.

He said: "I thought we were going to beat the record, but not to really get to this amount.

"The biggest truffle of the century and the most expensive truffle of the century. There are no more words to say - it is all very beautiful."

Mr Ho outbid British artist Damien Hirst and Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed of Abu Dhabi to the prize, according to the South China Morning Post.

All proceeds from the auction were donated to charities.

(IsraelNN.com) Turmeric, known in Israel as “kurkum,” is a main component in the popular Yemenite spice mixture (hawaij), but has now also become the new centerpiece in a natural pesticide developed by Israeli Druze researcher Professor Fadel Mansour.

The northern Israel scientist, who has worked for 35 years with the Israel Agriculture Ministry’s Volcani Research Center in lower Galilee, uses the spice as the central ingredient in a substance used to treat plastic sheets spread on the ground before sowing or planting.

According to a report on the Israel21c website, the repellent sheets are manufactured by Biopack, the commercial venture founded by Professor Mansour to market his discovery.

Last weekend a traffic jam several miles long snaked out of the Mansour district in western Baghdad. The delay stemmed not from a car bomb closing the road but from a queue to enter the city's central amusement park. The line became so long some families left their cars and walked to enjoy picnics, fairground rides and soccer, the Iraqi national obsession.

There is no denying the difficulties Iraq faces, and no amount of good news can obscure the demons of terrorism and sectarianism that have risen in my country. But there is too much at stake to risk failure, and everything to gain by helping us protect our hard-won democratic achievements and emerge as a stable, self-sustaining country.

We government ministers are always at risk of assassination. When a suicide bomber attacked parliament last month, the legislators sat in defiance in an extraordinary session the following day.
