While Revlon makes a big deal about this mascara’s brush, I found that it seems to hold an unusually large amount of product when you first pull it out of the tube and you really have to tissue it off to avoid applying too much. Once you’ve done that, however, it doesn’t negatively effect the actual product and the slightly smaller-size of the brush does help in applying mascara to those little, hard-to-reach lashes.

One of the most notable aspects of this mascara is how similarly the waterproof and non-waterproof formulas perform. There has never been an instance when I’ve tried both the waterproof and non-waterproof versions of a mascara and have not been able to easily tell the difference. For me, the waterproof version always makes lashes darker, thicker, longer, preserves eyelash curl better, and stays on longer without running or smearing.

A new view of two very well-known galaxies has revealed they are connected by faint, starless filaments of hydrogen gas, which trace back to a very high-speed intergalactic collision.

The smash-up between M86 and NGC4438 had not been suspected before, and may explain why M86, which is visible to the naked eye, is unable to give birth to new stars.

"Stars and gases behave very differently in collisions," says astronomer Professor Jeffrey Kenney of Yale University and lead author of a paper in the November 2008 issue of Astrophysical Journal Letters.

During galactic smash-ups stars rarely collide, since there is so much space between them. But gases do slam into gases. The faster the collision, the higher the temperature the gases reach.

In the case of M86, its gases are millions of degrees in temperature and radiate x-rays.

The new evidence of M86's collision may solve that mystery. What's more, the super-hot gas also probably explains why M86 is unable to produce new stars.

I don’t mean to be pendantic, but wouldn’t it be a bit more accurate to just say “this is the worst 12-month period since 1974?”

I say this just because we have seemed, from the outset, to be in a terrible hurry to tie this to the 1932 crash. On some levels this makes sense - there haven’t been many events that have affected so many parts of the overall economic system, so broadly and in such a deep fashion.

But in our rush to tie this so heavily to the Great Depression we ignore the fact that there are measurable differences in both situations. The job market is different, the methods and amounts of leverage are different, and the vehicles of investment don’t bear much likeness to seventy-years ago.

I could write this article the usual way -- by showing you how to turn your thousands into millions through investments in solid, growing, well-known companies. Union Pacific (NYSE: UNP), for example, has grown by a compound average of more than 12% annually over the past 10 years, while Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) has averaged 27% over that same period! Not too shabby.

But can such returns turn your thousands into millions? Yes, eventually. An investment of merely $10,000 would turn into $1 million in 30 years, if it grew at an annual average of 17%. But that's a fairly steep rate to count on for your stock investments -- a number to which only a select few master investors can aspire. It's safer to have more conservative expectations -- perhaps closer to 10%, the stock market's historical average annual return over most of the past century.

Gohan the hamster and Aochan the rat snake inside their cage at Tokyo Mutsugoro Animal Kingdom on in Tokyo, Japan. Gohan, meaning "meal" was placed into the snake's cage, intended as food in October last year, after Aochan refused to eat its normal diet of frozen mice. Instead of indulging on Gohan, the snake decided to make friends with the small rodent.
