The return flight from Switzerland was a mix of hope and solemnity for Rick Doblin, the only American to attend the funeral of Dr. Albert Hofmann, the inventor of LSD who had just died at the age of 102. Doblin, a Harvard-educated Ph.D and founder of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, an organization that conducts legal research into the healing and spiritual potentials of psychedelics and marijuana, had spent his entire career trying to break through the virtually impenetrable wall of obstinacy that surrounds psychedelic compounds and their potential benefits to society.

Bein' an old Hippie who did a lot of psychedelic drugs (a long time ago--and I'm alive and well 'cuz I avoided Coke and other dumbass drugs) ...so the value of my "spiritual" experiences may be directly correlated with the types of "divine" chemicals i took like psylocibin, peyote, LSD and the good herb Pakalolo---or as the guy says in the last video--it may be God's way of giving us an antenna towards the Divine and doesn't make the experience any less real or important. Developing a Spiritual consciousness rather than the mundane, everyday patterns of thought is quite important, neh? I find that I can get some of the same results by meditating (if I do it with regularity and depth, losing the "I")...of course it's not as much fun without the colors and stuff but just as meaningful, if not more. But then I didn't use drugs as recreation b

Religion and the Temporal Lobe

The BBC recently aired a documentary about how faith can be swayed by the activity residing in the temporal lobe, a center for brain activity; one most commonly paired with certain epileptic activity.

Scientists have debated for years about the role of the temporal lobe on religious activity; one noted change is the correlations between heavy drug/alcohol usage and increased religious activity afterwards. (George W. Bush is one person who springs to mind; spare the jokes, they already have been made.)

(Ironically a majority of conservatives have dealt with heavy drug usage in the past , and currently continue to do so as a side note.)

Francis Crick Discovers DNA Thanks to LSD

LSD. Yes, when not discovering the key to life, and winning the Nobel Prize for it, Crick spent the 50s and 60s throwing all night parties famous for featuring that era's favorite party favors: LSD and nudity. Crick never made it a secret that he experimented with the drug, and in 2006, the London paper The Mail on Sunday reported that Crick had told many colleagues that he was experimenting with LSD when he figured out the double helix structure.

Crick was a fan of Aldous Huxley's The Doors of Perception, a study of the human mind which was undertaken like all good studies, while driving around LA on mescaline.

So rather than melting his mind into a lava lamp of trippy shapes, Crick probably used LSD to get unfiltered access to a part of his brain most normal people rarely use.

In the 1950s, visitors to a brothel atop San Francisco’s Telegraph Hill got more than just a tryst and a view of the bay. Clients were secretly dosed with LSD as CIA agents watched from behind a one-way mirror. Although it sounds like a bad late-night spy movie, Operation Midnight Climax, as it was called, was a very real part of a larger covert project called MKULTRA.

In 1953 the director of Central Intelligence, Allen W. Dulles, officially approved MKULTRA, which sought chemical, biological, and radiological approaches to interrogation and behavior modification. Early on, the experiments employed volunteers, but as the program grew, ordinary American citizens and foreign nationals became unsuspecting subjects in the studies.

Fonti d'ispirazione sono da una parte Ka-Tzetnik 135633 lo scrittore polacco di La Casa delle Bambole, che per dopo anni di incubi e depressioni sperimenta una psicoterapia a base di LSD. E dall'altra parte Ian Curtis, leader dei Joy Division, che scrisse la canzone da cui l'esposizione prende titolo, un anno prima di suicidarsi.

Doblin was one of the first to break through that wall of obstinacy and challenge the Inquisition. He got the U.S. government to approve clinical trials of MDMA-assisted therapy for returning veterans and victims of violent crime or abuse who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

A headline in the May issue of the staid British medical journal The Lancet -- known for challenging the Pentagon's Iraq casualty numbers -- read, "Research on Psychedelics Moves into the Mainstream."

How some dedicated scientists and former flower children managed to bring hallucinogenic drug research back to mainstream labs after more than 30 years.

It's been more than a year since , a professor of pastoral counseling at Loyola College, ingested psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms.

These are familiar sentiments to , the scientist who led a study of 36 volunteers, most of whom detailed similar experiences after taking the hallucinogenic compound.

In a report published on July 1st in the Journal of Pharmacology, more than 60 percent of those intrepid volunteers reported substantial increases in life satisfaction a year after the experiment.

In the Middle Ages, the wolf became a symbol of evil. Hysteria about werewolves broke out all over Europe. Thousands of people were accused of being werewolves and many were tortured and executed. The magic salve is frequently mentioned in witch and were-wolf trials. It is supposed to be a strong hallucinogenic. When rubbed over the body, it is absorbed into the bloodstream and causes effects similar to LSD

One recipi includes the following ingredients :

fat from disinterred children
hemlock
aconite
poplar leaves
soot or cowbane
sweet flag
cinquefoil
bat's blood
deadly nightshade
oil

Other sources mentioned ingredients such as narcotics: Solanum somniferum , aconite, hyoscyamus, belladonna, opium, acorus vulgaris, sium. These were boiled down with oil, or the fat of little children who were murdered for that purpose. The blood of a bat was added, but its effects could have been nil. To these may have been added other foreign narcotics, the names of which have not transpired.

Apparently by default the snmpd daemon will only listen to requests coming from 127.0.0.1, regardless of what you tell the config.

modify "/etc/default/snmpd"

so that the line
