Computer is Slow Because of P2P Downloads

It’s a Love / Hate thing – Love P2P downloads and Hate the computer is slow issues:
There is no real solution, but here is some experience and advice.

First, when doing P2P downloads you are allowing access to your computer that is simply dangerous. My computer is slow because of them… or at least my computers have been slow because of peer to peer file sharing. Learning the best ways of protection is very important. It has been an ongoing learning process for me for years, and is still continuing.

Now all P2P programs may not be bad. But I do not know of a completely “clean” one. Some are better than others but all do the attaching to your computer and attaching to other people’s computers and let data flow between member’s computers. This is not a safe situation.

I have been a member of Limewire, Bearshare, Rhapsody, Kazza and tested eMule and BitComet. So you can see I’ve been around this a while

Obama's emergency escape plan leaked online

SENSITIVE documents including plans for the emergency evacuation of US President Barack Obama and motorcade routes have been leaked on a file-sharing network, authorities say.

Chairman of the US House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Edolphus Towns said the documents had been discovered with file-sharing program LimeWire.

Other sensitive documents found with the peer-to-peer program included FBI files, medical records and social security numbers.

Mr Town used evidence of the leaks to argue for the regulation of file-sharing programs.

"As far as I am concerned, the days of self-regulation should be over for the file-sharing industry," Mr Towns said.

"In the last administration, the Federal Trade Commission took a see-no-evil, hear-no-evil approach to the file sharing software industry.

"I hope the new administration is revisiting that approach."

When does a Clipmark become a copyright breach? Copying copyrighted images and text (in quantities larger than an excerpt) surely isn’t fair use. A problem is finding the person responsible for this. It is a little like P2P software; is LimeWire LLC responsible if someone decides to use their software in copyright theft?

LimeWire targeted in US filesharing investigation

LimeWire and other P2P applications will be examined by a US government committee.

WASHINGTON - A House committee is reopening its investigation of internet services that let computer users distribute music and movies online amid reports the same software was exploited to gain unauthorised access to government and private data.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee sent letters Monday to the Justice Department, Federal Trade Commission and The Lime Group, which runs LimeWire, a popular file-sharing service.

The House committee held hearings in 2007 and the problem of pirated music has since declined. LimeWire is the largest remaining such network popular among computer users.

Witnesses at the earlier hearings "easily obtained bank records, health records, military files, tax returns, corporate documents, and other highly sensitive private files via the LimeWire network," Towns and Issa wrote to Mark Gorton, chairman of The Lime Group.
