In other words, he had a direct -- and vast -- financial stake in the very policies which he was publicly advocating in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and countless other American media outlets, where he was presented as an independent expert on the region. The New York Times today details the unbelievably sleazy story of Peter Galbraith, one of the Democratic Party's leading so-called "liberal hawks" and a generally revered Wise Man of America's Foreign Policy Community. He was Ambassador to Croatia under the Clinton administration in the mid-1990s and, in March, 2009, the Obama administration (specifically, Richard Holbrooke, Galbraith's mentor) successfully pressured the U.N. to name Galbraith as the second-in-command in Afghanistan. The NYT does a good job today of adding some important details to the story, but it was actually uncovered by Norwegian investigative journalists and reported at length a month ago in pieces such as this one by Helena Cobban. In essence, this highly Serious man has corruptly concealed vast financial stakes in the very policies and positions he has spent years advocating while pretending to be an independent expert.

Hell yes this sounds crazy, but think about it, the conservatives are rallying, the middle 40% are leaning, and the liberals are learning a lesson.

The conservatives are pushing back way more than Obama ever excepted, the support for Obama's policies is starting to wane, 2010 will be the measuring stick for this theory.

I guess we will all find out in 2010, gonna be a wild ride, wouldn't miss it for the world.

I have to believe that a big part of that 40% wanted no more Bush, and I understand that and I get

Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer will give a lecture Thursday afternoon at Harvard University's ethics center, raising a few questions over what the prostitute-visiting ex-official has to say on the topic.

The engagement drew an objection from the former madam whose escort service provided Spitzer with high-end hookers.

According to The New York Post, Kristin Davis, who reportedly repeatedly supplied Spitzer with an escort, wrote a protest letter to the Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics calling Spitzer a "man without ethics."

"I am greatly intrigued as to what Mr. Spitzer could contribute to an ethical discussion when as Chief Executive Law Enforcement Officer of NY he broke numerous laws for which he has yet to be punished," she wrote, according to the newspaper. "As Attorney General he went around arresting and making examples out of the same escort agencies he was frequenting."

Every phone call, text message, email and website visit made by private citizens is to be stored for a year and will be available for monitoring by government bodies.

All telecoms companies and internet service providers will be required by law to keep a record of every customer’s personal communications, showing who they have contacted, when and where, as well as the websites they have visited.

The Home Office admitted that only one third of respondents to its six-month consultation on the issue supported its proposals, with 50 per cent fearing that the scheme lacked sufficient safeguards to protect the highly personal data from abuse.

Chris Huhne, the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman, has criticised the amount the scheme will cost for what he said is effectively “state spying”.

John Yates, Britain’s head of anti-terrorism, has argued that the legislation is vital for his investigators.

Some senior citizens are dropping their membership with the AARP following the group's decision to endorse a new government health insurance program.

Last week the American Medical Association and the AARP both endorsed the Democrats' House healthcare bill. AARP executive vice president Nancy LeaMond says the bill "meets our priorities for protecting Medicare, providing more affordable insurance for 50 to 64-year-olds, and reforming our healthcare system."

"The AARP has received over $2 billion in grants from the federal government over the past 15 or 20 years, and most people don't know that," Barton reports. "With having such a huge liberal agenda, it is really a travesty for them to get that sort of money. The Senate Finance Committee [has] passed this bill...[it refers to] a co-op, and this co-op is the AARP -- and they will be making money on the government-run option. They're going to handle it."

Death of God Theology

In the 1960s, DOG, or "Death of God," theology became a buzzword. Completely missing the point of Harvard University's Harvey Cox in his popular book The Secular City, people jumped on the idea that DOG theology meant that what would come to be called "secular humanism" had triumphed. Conservative clergy heaped great scorn on those who even tried to understand what the so-called "DOG scholars" were trying to say.

Time magazine brought the issue to the front burner of public opinion when they placed Thomas Altizer of Emory University squarely in the hot seat. The bold cover story with the words "Is God Dead?" made Altizer a household name.

Most scholars who contributed to Death of God theology were trying to make an important point.

the crucifixion symbolized the end of the historical idea that God was just "out there" somewhere, uninvolved.

The phrase "death of God" represented more a new understanding of God, or of the concept of God, than the destruction thereof.

But she’s working from a standpoint that mistakes like this aren’t in her repertoire. Will she stick around the media spotlight? We’ll see – Joe the Plumber hasn’t exactly disappeared, and Prejean has that extra something that Joe never will.

A staff member of the right-wing NSW Liberal MP David Clarke has stood aside after being linked to a spoof You Tube video involving Adolf Hitler.

Charles Perrottet is the second Liberal Party staffer to stand down over the video clip.

In the clip, the Hitler biopic Downfall has been re-subtitled to portray the Federal MP Alex Hawke as an enraged Adolf Hitler, making reference to a factional stoush inside the state Liberal Party.

A link to the video has been sent to a number of news outlets including the ABC.

The war in the Liberal Party's right-wing has been prompted by a split between the former allies Alex Hawke and the Upper House MP David Clarke.

At the weekend the Nazi clip claimed its first scalp with Malcolm Turnbull's media adviser Thomas Tudehope resigning after being linked to the video.

Now Mr Perrottet, has also stood down while the matter is investigated by the Liberal's State Director, Mark Neeham.

Fort Hood, Texas (CNN) -- Thirteen flag-draped coffins left Fort Hood on Friday as authorities searched for a motive in the massacre that left more than 50 casualties at the largest U.S. military base.

Thursday's mass shooting killed 12 soldiers and one civilian and wounded 38 people at the Fort Hood Army Post in Texas. The suspect in the shooting, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a licensed Army psychiatrist, was among the two dozen who remained hospitalized Friday night.

As Washington reels from the news of 10.2 percent unemployment, the Center for Responsive Politics is out with a new report describing the wealth of members of Congress.

Among the highlights: Two-hundred-and-thirty-seven members of Congress are millionaires

All told, at least seven lawmakers have net worths greater than $100 million, according to the Center’s 2008 figures.

Among executive branch officials, CRP says the richest is Securities and Exchange Commission Chairwoman Mary L. Schapiro, with a net worth estimated at $26 million.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is next, worth an estimated $21 million. President Barack Obama is the sixth-wealthiest, worth about an estimated $4 million

One caveat on those numbers: Federal financial disclosure laws don’t require members to list the value of their personal residences. That information could alter the net worth picture for many lawmakers.

Europe is “dying’’ because its secular residents are too selfish to have children, according to Lord Sacks, the Chief Rabbi.

The leader of Britain’s Jewish community claimed the continent’s population is in decline because people care more about shopping than the sacrifice involved in parenthood.

He blamed atheist “neo-Darwinians” for Europe’s low birth rate and said religious people of all denominations are more likely to have large families.

The Chief Rabbi, who entered the House of Lords last week, made his comments in a lecture on religion in the 21st century hosted by Theos, the public theology think-tank, on Wednesday night.

Lord Sacks said that faith had survived so far because it could provide answers to mankind’s eternal search for meaning in life - unlike the market, the state, science or philosophy, which underpin modern liberal democracies.

The Chief Rabbi warned that secular Europe is at risk, however, because its moral relativism can easily be defeated by fundamentalists.
