Cats are wonderful friends and companions and are a lot of fun to have around.
When people visit they shouldn’t know that we have cats because of the cat odor (cat pee) in our home.

Understanding How To Train a cat or change cat behaviour is as simple as learning to understand how a cat thinks.
To get the behavior you want, you really need to be able to get inside of the head or psyche of your cat. When you begin to understand how your cat thinks (it’s different for dogs) then you begin to understand why they do what they do and act like they act.

Once you understand their natural instincts, which by the way is something you can’t change, then instead of trying to stifle their natural instincts, you’ll respect them and use your new knowledge to your advantage.

You see, the sad part is that a lot of cats are euthanized each day because of cat behavior problems that could have been easily solved with the right information.

Studies show that some games can have benefits beyond shooting aliens

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin at Madison looked at a random sample of 2,000 chat room posts about "World of Warcraft" to see what the players were discussing. The research found the game encouraged scientific thinking.

BOSTON - Parents, don't put away those video games just yet — today's gamer may be tomorrow's top surgeon.

Researchers who gathered in Boston for the American Psychological Association convention detailed a series of studies suggesting video games can be powerful learning tools — from increasing younger students' problem-solving potential to improving the suturing skills of laparoscopic surgeons.

The conclusion? Certain types of video games can have benefits beyond the virtual thrills of blowing up demons.

I’m a teacher. I’ve taught elementary school for eleven years. I’ve always told people, “I have the best job in the world.” I crafted curriculum that made students think, and they had fun while learning. At the end of the day, I felt energized. Today, more often than not, I feel demoralized.

While I still connect my lesson plans to students’ lives and work to make it real, this no longer is my sole focus. Today I have a new nickname: testbuster. Singing to the tune of “Ghostbusters,” I teach test-taking strategies similar to those taught in Stanley Kaplan prep courses for the SAT. I spend an inordinate amount of time showing students how to “bubble up,” the term for darkening those little circles that accompany multiple choice questions on standardized tests.

It’s often thought that there are three different types of learning style around today, and these are commonly said to be learning by listening, seeing and by experience (touching or doing). Obviously if you can combine more than one aspect of this way of learning, then whatever the information that a person is trying to learn, will stick to mind a lot better than if – for example – the information was only read, rather than read and then learnt further through experience. The point is, is that the more stimuli that occur during learning, the easier a thing is to learn.

Definition of Science

Science is the study of regular objective phenomena through empirical induction and logical deduction. The scientific method consists of observation and measurement, induction of hypotheses and deduction of consequences, experimental or empirical testing of those consequences, reproducibility of results, and competition for agreement in the marketplace of ideas.

Discovery is the learning of a principle or fact that was already in effect. Invention is the creation of a method or mechanism that was not already in operation. A hypothesis is a rigorous explanation that has not already been proven. 'Theory' can mean either a proven or unproven hypothesis. A fact is a synthetic proposition that is demonstrably true. Principles and facts are discovered (not invented) because they were already in effect. Theories are invented (not discovered) because the explaining that they constitute was not already happening, even though the principle they describe might have been.

Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, among other imaging methods, researchers have repeatedly found that error recognition takes place in the medial frontal cortex, a region on the surface of the brain in the middle of the frontal lobe, including the anterior cingulate. Such studies implicate this brain region as a monitor of negative feedback, action errors and decision uncertainty—and thus as an overall supervisor of human performance.

The brain contains neural machinery for recognizing errors, correcting them, and optimizing behavior.

The neurotransmitter dopamine plays a major role in our ability to learn from our mistakes.

Genetic variants that affect dopamine signaling may partly explain differences between people in the extent to which they learn from errors or negative consequences.

Certain patterns of cerebral activity often foreshadow errors, opening up the possibility of preventing blunders with portable devices that can detect error-prone brain states.

Although people understandably would like to avoid serious errors, most goofs have a good side: they give the brain information about how to improve or fine-tune behavior. In fact, learning from mistakes is likely essential to the survival of our species.

Hints of the brain’s error-detection apparatus emerged serendipitously in the early 1990s.

Marion County's juvenile lockup searches for new director

Marion Superior Court officials have begun a nationwide search for a new superintendent at the juvenile lockup for the third time in two years.

Richard L. Curry Jr., brought in last year to fix a facility troubled by security, safety and other problems, has resigned to return to the state prison system.

Curry, a U.S. Army veteran and Baptist pastor, began his career as a correctional officer. He was assistant superintendent of the Putnamville Correctional Facility when he was appointed to oversee the county detention center. Curry's salary was $80,000.

His hiring followed the aborted appointment in September 2006 of Troy Hoppes. Court officials rescinded the decision after learning Hoppes' master's degree came from an online diploma mill.

Students warned over US courses

STUDENTS in Bahrain are being urged to do their homework before signing up for distance learning college and university degree courses in the US.

The warning comes after 10 people from Bahrain appeared on an American government watchlist, accused of buying counterfeit qualifications.

Among those implicated were hundreds of people with links to the US military, educational institutions, government and security agencies such as the CIA.

Some of the buyers reportedly paid anything from a few hundred dollars for bachelor's and master's degrees up to $7,770 (BD2,937) for a PhD (doctorate).

According to the watchlist, the people listed from Bahrain bought school diplomas and Master's of Arts (MA), Bachelor's of Arts (BA) and Master's of Science (MS) degrees.

'Frankenrobot' Has Biological Brain

Aug. 13, 2008 -- Meet Gordon, probably the world's first robot to be controlled exclusively by living brain tissue.

Stitched together from cultured rat neurons, Gordon's primitive grey matter was designed at the University of Reading by scientists who unveiled the neuron-powered machine on Wednesday.

Their groundbreaking experiments explore the vanishing boundary between natural and artificial intelligence, and could shed light on the fundamental building blocks of memory and learning, one of the lead researchers said.

"The purpose is to figure out how memories are actually stored in a biological brain," said Kevin Warwick, a professor at the University of Reading and one of the robot's principle architects.
