Archeology Supports Christian Claims

The Life of Jesus film crew has gained rare access to an archaeological find that cements historical evidence early Christians worshiped Jesus as divine.

“The inscriptions on the mosaic floor are remarkable,” Dr Dickson says.

“One of them names a benefactor called Gaianus who is described as a centurion. Another mentions a woman called Akeptous who ‘…offered this table in memorial of the God Jesus Christ’.”

The inscriptions cast more doubt on claims made by prominent atheists and popular authors that Jesus’ divinity was an invention by the fourth century church.

“Here is extraordinary physical evidence from the century before Constantine and the Council of Nicaea that Christians, including Roman officials, were worshipping Jesus as divine,” Dr Dickson explains.

Lead archaeologist Yotam Tepper from the Israeli Antiquities Authority has dated the mosaic floor to AD 230 but he admits he is being deliberately conservative.

Financial Armageddon, the meltdown, the crisis, or whichever title fits the bill this week, is about to enter another even more damaging phase in America.

And it would pay for the rest of the world to take notice because a fair amount of evidence has piled up in recent months to prove the adage about America sneezing and everyone else catching a cold.

The housing markets of much of Europe mimicked those in America by slumping after a few years of heady price increases. The credit markets of Europe and Asia seized up, again following America's lead. Then, of course, stock markets in London, continental Europe and the Far East lost trillions of dollars of value in the wake of several historic Wall Street plunges last week.

States have become accustomed to borrowing their way out of troubles like these, but today state and local governments are having just as hard a time securing credit as the banks and financial firms .

Islamic Fund to Fight AIDS

But the fund, whose capital amounts to $430,000, will not offer medical treatment for the infected people.

"We will seek to educate people about the dangers of involving in relationships outside marriage," said Al-Nama.

"The fund will hold a training program for imams from around the Muslim world to use them in raising public awareness about the deadly virus and means of protection," said Waffa Sadiq of the Britain-based Islamic Aid.

John McCain's election campaign last night suffered the body blow which Republicans had been bracing themselves for when his vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, was found to have abused her powers in pursuit of a personal feud with her former brother-in-law.

At the end of the 10-week investigation into the so-called Troopergate affair, Palin was found to have breached the ethics rules which govern her conduct as governor of Alaska. The findings, delivered by an investigator who had been hired by the Alaskan state legislature before she was picked as McCain's running mate, are certain to lead to questions over his judgment, and to queries and challenges as to her suitability for national office.

With McCain struggling to overtake Barack Obama in the polls, however, and less than four weeks before the election, the report's findings could barely have been worse for the Republicans.

Scientists confirm shark's ‘virgin birth’

RICHMOND, Va. - Scientists have confirmed the second case of a "virgin birth" in a shark.

In a study reported Friday in the Journal of Fish Biology, scientists said DNA testing proved that a pup carried by a female Atlantic blacktip shark in the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center contained no genetic material from a male.

The first documented case of asexual reproduction, or parthenogenesis, among sharks involved a pup born to a hammerhead at an Omaha, Neb., zoo.

"This first case was no fluke," Demian Chapman, a shark scientist and lead author of the second study, said in a statement. "It is quite possible that this is something female sharks of many species can do on occasion."

The aquarium sharks that reproduced without mates each carried only one pup, while some shark species can produce litters numbering in the dozen or more. The scientists cautioned that the rare asexual births should not be viewed as a possible solution to declining global shark populations.

Man-eating catfish discovered in India

The monster fish is called a goonch and can grow to six foot, regularly weighing more than 11 stone.

It lives in the Great Kali River, between India and Nepal - a stretch of water which is often used to dispose of human bodies after Hindu funeral rites.

Some think this may have lead the goonch to start poaching live human victims.

"There will be a few freak individuals that grow bigger than the other ones and if you throw in extra food, they will grow even bigger."

Mr Wade managed to snare one goonch which weighed 161lb and was nearly 6ft long - the biggest of its species ever caught.

He said: "If that got hold of you, there would be no getting away."

The goonch is thought to be responsible for the disappearance of an 18-year-old Nepali last year, who was dragged under the water by a creature described as a "elongated pig".

Two earlier mysterious river deaths are also considered to be the work of the killer fish.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (Reuters) - An Alaska ethics inquiry found on Friday that Gov. Sarah Palin, the U.S. Republican vice presidential candidate, abused her authority by pressuring subordinates to fire a state trooper involved in a feud with her family.

The finding cast a cloud over John McCain's controversial choice of running mate for the November 4 election. On the day it was published he reined in an aggressive strategy against Barack Obama that had failed to cut into his Democratic rival's lead.

After a week in which he and Palin fiercely attacked Obama and inflamed supporters by urging them to question his fitness to be president, McCain switched to a milder tone, calling on frustrated loyalists to respect the Illinois senator.

Supporters appeared surprised by his conciliatory approach, booing at a Minneapolis rally when he told a skeptical backer that Obama was a "decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared (of) as president of the United States."
