MODESTO, October 13 /Christian Newswire/-- In a violent display of intolerance, an opponent of Proposition 8 attacked and seriously injured a Catholic parishioner who was volunteering on Sunday for the initiative to define marriage as between and a man and a woman.

The assailant grabbed about 75 signs and yelled at Nunez accusingly, "What do you have against gays?" Although Nunez replied that he had nothing against gays, he was attacked anyway. The assailant punched Nunez in the left eye and ran off with the signs.

According to the Yes on 8 campaign, the attack shows that their opponents are not as tolerant and open-minded as they would like voters to believe.

"The other side wants to intimidate us, but we can't stop standing up for traditional marriage. I may be bloody and bruised, but I'm not giving up. Protecting traditional marriage is just too important for our kids,"

Halloween at California Theme Parks

If the drug stores and supermarkets are any indication, celebrating Halloween is at least a month-long event - if not longer. Theme parks are no exception, of course. In fact, many of California’s theme parks start with the scary celebration of Halloween as soon as school starts in September.

Also, at Disney’s California Adventure Park, there is special trick-or-treating at Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat Party. There’s the usual rides and attractions, plus games and live music, all with Disney characters wandering around doing their thing. This is a different deal than the Disneyland Theme Park across the street; buy tickets in advance because Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat party is very, very popular.

These are family-friendly California theme parks that my kids have enjoyed for years. With Halloween being probably the most child-oriented holiday in our country, I can’t think of a better time to have a family trip to a theme park and have a great time.

Here's the kicker: Sal substituted McCain's views for Obama's but Obama's supporters didn't know the difference. Yikes! And for fairness, one person supported McCain, but he didn't know what was going on either. Keep in mind, we're talking about Howard Stern here, so I'm issuing a bad language warning in case you've got kids in the room.

It all started years ago when my mother and her sisters began going to haunted houses each Halloween. I remember being 10 years old when I finally got to go to my first haunted house with them. They assured me that it wasn’t a very scary haunted house. In fact, they claimed, it was at the local mall and was created just for little kids.

I still remember I was so excited and couldn’t wait until dark so we could go. As we drove closer, I could feel my heart begin to race. I was excited and scared at the same time, but there was no way I was going to chicken out. My cousin and I had begged our moms to let us go, and it was too late to turn back now. Besides, I wasn’t “going in” alone. My mom, my cousin and my aunt would all be there with me.

clipper's remarks: I find that around here there are options for good food that are okay with my kids (Taco Pica, for one, where Marah locked herself in the bathroom on Saturday and we had to force the door open). But it is true that some places are just not kid-friendly, which bites for those of us who miss our organic, local food and our local coffee.
(Side note: the Tim's within walking distance of us is too small for a stroller and it's extremely annoying. Especially because the alternative - the restaurant down the mall - has shitty coffee.)

Maybe it's time for the indies to take a cue from the chains and make some room for the stroller set. Or at least not be so judgmental when it comes to fast food. It's nice to have a place where no one flinches when families walk in mid-meltdown and where grandparents giggle watching babies taste French fries for the first time. Personally, I find it comforting that my post-preschool hangout is here for my daughter's generation and feel like giving Mickey D's a little pat on the back for modernizing themselves. So until there's a place that supports sustainable farming with organic food that's open twenty-four hours a day (or at least for lunch!), I certainly won't be boycotting the Golden Arches.

Digital technology has made it easy to create new works from existing art, but copyright law has yet to catch up.

We are in the middle of something of a war here -- what some call "the copyright wars"; what the late Jack Valenti called his own "terrorist war," where the "terrorists" are apparently our kids.

After a decade of fighting, the law has neither slowed file sharing, nor compensated artists. We should sue not kids, but for peace, and build upon a host of proposals that would assure that artists get paid for their work, without trying to stop "sharing."

This week pundits were all in a tizzy about the angry mobs showing up at John McCain and Sarah Palin rallies.

This country wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for an angry mob that decided it wanted a tax cut and threw English tea into Boston Harbor.

we would probably all be Muslims now if an angry mob hadn’t chosen Barabbas over Jesus 2,000 years ago.

The Republican Party certainly owes a lot to angry mobs. Angry mobs in Little Rock and Selma deeply concerned about the issue of state’s rights, angry mobs of parents in Boston who didn’t want their kids bussed across town and angry mobs of Chicago homeowners who didn’t want their property values to go down all helped give birth to the modern conservative movement. The Democrats had angry mobs of their own rioting in the cities and burning flags at antiwar protests and conservatives realized that the only way we would win is if we had better, angrier mobs. What was Nixon’s Silent Majority but a very quiet, very angry mob?

LENTIL OR SPLIT PEA SAUSAGES

LENTIL OR SPLIT PEA SAUSAGES

1 1/2 c dry lentils or split peas or yellow split peas.
2 c cold water
1 c chopped onion
1 t oil
2 T yeast flakes or chicken-style or beef-style flavoring
1 T low sodium soy sauce
Garlic, sage, cumin, dill, thyme, paprika to taste

2 1/2 c boiling water

Blend or grind beans to a dry meal. Add cold water to it and stir thoroughly. Sauté` onion in oil. Mix all ingredients together and cook until thick, about 10-15 minutes. Pour into oiled cans and cover tops with plastic wrap, place in frig over night. Remove and slice. Brown in nonstick skillet and serve hot or cold in a sandwich.

These are huge favorites of my kids - I season pretty strongly with garlic, oregano and sage though...
