Whether Mrs. Palin would make a good Presidential candidate, I don't know. But I'm weary to death of the clandestine people who mouth conservative rhetoric and then fold when the game is on. As Washington reels from the news of 10.2 percent unemployment, the Center for Responsive Politics is out with a new report describing the wealth of members of Congress.

Backed by some of the most powerful members of the Senate, a little-noticed provision in the healthcare overhaul bill would require insurers to consider covering Christian Science prayer treatments as medical expenses.

The provision was inserted by Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) with the support of Democratic Sens. John F. Kerry and the late Edward M. Kennedy, both of Massachusetts, home to the headquarters of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

The measure would put Christian Science prayer treatments -- which substitute for or supplement medical treatments -- on the same footing as clinical medicine. While not mentioning the church by name, it would prohibit discrimination against "religious and spiritual healthcare."

But critics say the measure could have a broader effect, conferring new status and medical legitimacy on practices that lie outside the realm of science.

Among the highlights: Two-hundred-and-thirty-seven members of Congress are millionaires. That’s 44 percent of the body – compared to about 1 percent of Americans overall.

All told, at least seven lawmakers have net worths greater than $100 million, according to the Center’s 2008 figures.

Even in tough times, it's good to be a lawmaker: According to a report released this week by the Center for Responsive Politics, there are 237 millionaires serving in Congress, according to 2008 figures.

While about one percent of Americans are millionaires, 44 percent of those serving in Congress can claim as much.

Among the top 25 wealthiest legislators – which includes boldface names Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein and Olympia Snowe – there are 14 Democrats and 11 Republicans, suggesting no clear wealth divisions between party.

The richest member of Congress is Republican California Rep. Darrell Issa, whose net worth is estimated to be in excess of $250 million. He's followed by four Democrats: California's Jane Harman (approx. $245 million), Wisconsin's Herb Kohl (approx. $215 million), Virginia's Mark Warner (approx. $210 million) and Massachusetts' John Kerry (approx. $209 million).

The law loves American Christianity

At first glance, I thought this story was good news: Oklahoma is going to build a Christian prison! About time, I thought, I can think of a few Christians who deserve a few years for faith-abuse. But no…it's a prison to be administered by Christians to give Christian criminals special privileges. Not quite as appropriate, but more in line with what we've gotten used to from our dominant faith tradition.

We're getting more of the same from Congress, too. Religion is being given permission to intrude on science once again, with the sanctimonious Orrin Hatch (abetted by a pair of Democrats, Kerry and Kennedy) sponsoring a provision in the mangled health care football to allow prayer to count as medicine.

I may just have to convert to Catholicism under this bill so I can charge the US and my insurance provider to cover my near-sightedness treatments at Lourdes. And the French Riviera.

But nooooo. Our senior senator was captured in yet another embarrassing Kodak moment with a couple of Emerson College students, who popped by his posh Louisburg Square digs to trick or treat on Halloween night.

Call us crazy, but does it look like Kerry may have ingested a bad ice cube or two before this photo op??? Where was the maid who usually has candy duty at Chez Heinz on Halloween???

“I think the caption should read: The senator is pictured discussing climate change legislation with two constituents. He was flattered until they told him he looked just like their grandfather,” joked Kerry spokesgal Jodi Seth .

Now if this Halloween faux pas were a one-time occurrence, we could let it pass with minimal ridicule

The point is that the Titans aren't winning and while Kerry isn't playing well right now, Young isn't the answer. Their problems go far beyond the QB. In fact, if you saw their first game of the season against the Steelers, he had a very good game.

Adams has faith in Fisher ability to handle the non-financial personnel aspects of the Team. He does not have a history of second guessing Fisher. So why get involved here. Adams knows that the Titans are not going to make the post season, so he's going to placate that portion of the population who wants Young, be it because he's black, a runner or just to give hope with a change of direction.

Even before the Titans played their first game here in Tennessee, there was a faction that clearly stated they would not support the Titans if Mc Nair was not the QB. They even wrote "letters to the editor" about it. He had only started six games before the Team came to Tennessee.

There is always a large portion of any team following who want a black QB and a large portion who want a white QB. I believe Adams is trying to keep both factions happy. If Young can't get it done, then Kerry will get another chance. Right now the Titans have nothing to lose with this move. They aren't going to win until they get healthy and they have little chance at the post season.
