The Library contains a wealth of information, from unclassified current publications to basic references, reports and maps. The Library features our most popular publication, The World Factbook, and our online directory of Chiefs of State and Cabinet Members of Foreign Governments. But it was reasonable for Mozilo to think they'd serve again in another Democratic administration.

And what, many wonder, was the quid pro quo for all this?

Just a month ago, in unusually harsh language, Dodd ripped into President Bush on the subprime mess and defended a $400 billion plan that would bail out the subprime lending industry — including Mozilo.

The Democrats' initial response has been to stall. They hope the problem will disappear until after the election. They need to investigate it fully, immediately and without prejudice — or risk having it blow up in their faces.

Clip Source: www.ibdeditorials.com

The firing of Democrat insider and money-man Jim Johnson a week ago as head of Barack Obama's vice presidential search committee came as no surprise.

Obama has railed specifically against Mozilo's company

At one point, he even demonized Mozilo for "infecting the economy and helping to create a home foreclosure crisis."

Now it turns out that Johnson wasn't the only Democratic F.O.A. — friend of Angelo.

Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut, head of the Senate Banking Committee that oversees Countrywide, also was a recipient of Mozilo's mortgage largesse. So was Kent Conrad, the North Dakotan who chairs the Finance Committee and sits on the Budget Committee.

Dodd's case is illustrative. He took out two mortgages with no closing costs attached, at fixed rates of 4.25% and 4.5%.

Conrad didn't even know Mozilo. But he phoned him anyway, and got a great deal: a low-interest, virtually no-cost loan to buy a $1 million beach getaway. Favoritism? No way, says Conrad.

Nor were Conrad and Dodd alone.

Tags: obama's vp "vetter", jim johnson, chris dodd, senate banking committee, countrywide, kent conrad, finance committee, budget committee

<clipSource>http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=298595185267130</clipSource>

You've got to be kidding me.

clipped by: apollo110769
clipper's remarks: ... CINCINNATI (Reuters) -
When Ohio's Kent State University
offered custodial staff the option of working four days a week
instead of five to cut commuting costs, most jumped at the
chance, part of a U.S. trend aimed at combating soaring
gasoline prices.

retain good workers. And while so far only the university's
custodians are eligible, Rainone hopes the option will be
offered to all departments

Some 44 percent of respondents said they have changed the
way they commute -- doing things such as sharing a ride or
driving a more fuel-efficient car -- or are working from home
or looking for a closer job in order to reduce gasoline costs,
according to staffing services company Robert Half

KENT, OH — An anti-war march and protest in downtown Kent following Sunday's commemoration of the 38th anniversary of the May 4, 1970 shootings at Kent State University resulted in four arrests.

protesters who sat down in the middle of Kent's West Main Street bridge

The march, organized by the Kent State Anti-War Committee and the Portage Peace Coalition, began on campus and proceeded west along East Main Street, stopping at the KSU U.S. Air Force ROTC building in the Terrace Annex to post paper peace signs on the doors

Students, conceding that rocks had been thrown, heatedly denied that there was any sniper.

Gov. James A. Rhodes called on J. Edgar Hoover, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to aid in looking into the campus violence. A Justice Department spokesman said no decision had been made to investigate. At 2:10 this afternoon, after the shootings, the university president, Robert I. White, ordered the university closed for an indefinite time, and officials were making plans to evacuate the dormitories and bus out-of-state students to nearby cities.

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

Kent, Ohio, May 4 -- Four students at Kent State University, two of them women, were shot to death this afternoon by a volley of National Guard gunfire. The burst of gunfire came about 20 minutes after the guardsmen broke up a noon rally on the Commons, a grassy campus gathering spot, by lobbing tear gas at a crowd of about 1,000 young people

In Washington, President Nixon deplored the deaths of the four students in the following statement:

"This should remind us all once again that when dissent turns to violence it invites tragedy. It is my hope that this tragic and unfortunate incident will strengthen the determination of all the nation's campuses, administrators, faculty and students alike to stand firmly for the right which exists in this country of peaceful dissent and just as strong against the resort to violence as a means of such expression."

the Assistant Adjutant General, said the troops had opened fire after they were shot at by a sniper.

Tags: 4 dead, protest, kent state

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/learning/general/onthisday/big/0504.html</clipSource>

History to remember: The Orangeburg Massacre

clipped by: masbury
clipper's remarks: Murder by the S.
Some wholesale energy prices also spiked Tuesday evening -- especially in
West Texas. ERCOT also reported that the drop in wind power led to constraints
on the system between the north part of the state and the west.

Kent Saathoff, vice president for system operations at ERCOT, said Tuesday's
event illustrates the inherent challenges associated with using wind power.
Because the wind sometimes stops blowing without a moment's notice, engineers at
ERCOT must remain nimble enough to respond to resulting instability on the grid,
he said.

Tags: alternative energy, environment, industrial wind, wind farms, wind turbines

<clipSource>http://www.star-telegram.com/state_news/story/500595.html</clipSource>

Top 15 Manipulated Photographs

clipped by: shelleyinc
clipper's remarks: Photographs can lie, even when accompanied by a headline.

Clip Source: listverse.com

15.
