I Reject Your 'Reality'

Tonight I was reading an article over on SyFy Portal, Taming the Technological Beast by Dan Compora. In it he mentions some of the man vs machine paranoia stories that have been told in print and on screen

Which reminded me of the Butlerian Jihad from Dune. Up until tonight I only knew what the six Dune books and the Dune Encyclopedia had to say about it.

Here is a compelling and horrifying story. A story that strikes deep in the heart of our animal selves: our fears for our children. And it's not a simple story by any means.

Are you fucking kidding me?

It's a cheap knock-off of lesser ideas grafted onto one of the most amazing stories ever written.

I write and read fan fiction and I love it and believe that it is a good (as well as legal) thing.

Yet, after reading this horrid re-imagining of the Butlerian Jihad, I want to scream and shout that no one should ever, ever be allowed to add to the canon after a creator dies.

I think America has developed its own Christian cult in which war and Jesus are for some strange reason able to co-exist in the same sentence. Preachers like John Hagee and Pat Robertson have no qualms in supporting violence. They are like our own backward Mullahs calling for Jihad.

What's disturbing is how they claim to associate with Jesus.

Jesus put back the cut off ear of a Roman soldier that was taking him away to die. That's how serious he was about his love for everyone. Yet here we have men calling on His name and then saying "let's kill, let's assassinate"

Jason Mattera from Young America's Foundation is in Denver this week and posting video from the streets of Denver.

Yesterday he put on his orange jumpsuit to petition DNC protesters in support of Netflix and MSNBC (and Jihad Olympics!) for the poor, deprived Gitmo detainees. The part in the Amnesty International travelling Gitmo cell was terrific.
They were all for it:

The People's Press Collective assisted Jason during his stay here in Denver.

Also, The Peoples Press Collective covered the illegal immigration protest and have several videos from earlier today.

While several of the protesters were supporting open borders others had their own agenda.

On May 26, 2008, the liberal website Middle East Transparent [1] posted an article by Kuwaiti liberal Khalil 'Ali Haidar criticizing the culture of war in the Arab and Muslim world and the slogans that perpetuate it.

"I would like to shout to the Arabs and the Muslims: Oh, people! Enough! Oh, [champions] of war, struggle, jihad, and honor! Enough! Life in our homeland has been destroyed. By the doors of the embassies of the French and British, against whose colonialism we fought, stand crowds of young people belonging to the new generation, who are applying for entry visas. Three months after Dispatches: Undercover Mosque won a police apology and libel damages, Channel 4 has announced it is returning to the subject in Undercover Mosque: The Return.

The documentary, an undercover investigation into extremism in mainstream British mosques, featured preachers calling for homosexuals to be killed, espousing male supremacy, condemning non-Muslims and predicting jihad.

In one scene, as hundreds of women and some children come to pray, a preacher calls for adulterers, homosexuals, women who act like men and Muslim converts to other faiths to be killed, saying: "Kill him, kill him. You have to kill him, you understand. This is Islam."

The

reporter also "films inside a key Saudi-funded Muslim organisation, which claims to promote tolerance and integration yet distributes literature which promotes intolerance for non-Muslims

This would be even funnier if it weren’t for the fact that bin Laden’s goals were actually to bankrupt the US and to drive up the price of oil.

In 1998 Osama bin Laden complained that Americans have stolen $36 trillion from Muslims because they purchased oil from Muslim nations at low prices. Interestingly, he said that oil should cost $144 a barrel, which is just what it costs now.

So what did bin Laden have to do to get the price of oil to increase 13 times in the last 10 years? One month after 9/11, the New York Times wrote about nightmare scenarios that would do this, and one of them included the US attacking Iraq.

Also contributing to the high price of oil is the collapsing of the value of the US dollar, encouraged by the economic policies of the Bush administration.

Or, to put it in far blunter terms, Osama bin Laden can now say “Mission Accomplished”.

Stop the 'War' on Terror: Calling It a 'War' Is a Boon to Terrorist Recruiters

Since 1968, more than three-quarters of terrorist groups have ended because of a political settlement or joint policing and intelligence efforts. But a political solution is not in the cards with Al Qaeda. Its goal – to take down multiple state regimes to create a pan-Islamic caliphate – is too radical to lead to any sort of negotiated settlement with Middle Eastern governments.

A good start toward peace, though, would be for Washington to stop thinking of this as a "war" with a battlefield solution.

The term "war" also has a symbolic cost. It feeds into the jihad or "holy war" concept that attracts the attention of potential terrorists by elevating them to "holy warrior" status. Terrorists should be perceived and described as criminals, not holy warriors.

What we are engaged in, more aptly, is "counterterrorism."

At least seven people were killed and many injured when security forces in Indian-administered Kashmir opened fire on stone-throwing Muslim protesters.

Thousands defied a curfew in Srinagar and other towns in the mainly Muslim Kashmir valley for a second day. One person died in clashes in Jammu region.

The curfew was imposed ahead of the burial of a senior separatist who died after police opened fire on Monday.

Tensions are rising and threaten peace hopes after years of relative calm.

The BBC's Chris Morris in Delhi says Kashmir has now become dangerously polarised, in a dispute which began over the control of a small piece of land.

Protests and counter-protests have been taking place for weeks in the Kashmir valley, and in the mainly Hindu region around the city of Jammu further south.

The demonstrations in the valley are some the biggest since a separatist rebellion against Indian rule broke out nearly 20 years ago.

Iraq said on Friday it was resuming exploration of its immense oil reserves after a break of nearly 20 years due to crippling UN sanctions, saying it hopes to double its proven deposits of crude.

"Today the Iraqi oil ministry celebrates a return to work by Iraqi oil exploration teams after 20 years of interruption," ministry spokesman Assim Jihad told AFP.

Oil Minister Hussein Hussein al-Shahristani was to attend a ceremony to mark the event at the Al-Garraf field near Nasiriyah, 350 kilometres (220 miles) south of Baghdad, Jihad said.

He said the ministry would deploy three exploration teams trained abroad in the latest techniques.

OPEC member Iraq hopes the squads will uncover deposits that will enable it to double its proven oil reserves, currently standing at 115 billion barrels of crude.

With the dollar strengthening on Friday, crude prices in London slumped below 116 dollars a barrel amid concerns about slower energy demand and as Iraq resumed exploration.

Religion of Irony alert. Al Qaeda's #3 has called for the death of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah for meeting with the Pope and calling for interfaith dialogue. Why does this get King Abdullah a death fatwa? The logic goes something like this:

The Pope offended Muhammad by suggesting that the Muslim prophet spread Islam by the sword. For this, the Pope deserves death. King Abdullah deserves death by colluding with the Pope and abandoning violent jihad.
