John McCain's fist major decision of this campaign - picking Palin for his running mate - leads us to believe that the Jewish community's concerns are not so high on his priority list.

Human rights groups have documented these actions.

It hopes the west will forget ethnic cleansing in Abkhazia drove out more than three-quarters of the local population – ethnic Georgians, Greeks, Jews and others – leaving the minority Abkhaz in control.

Last week Vaclav Havel, the former Czech president, put us on alert: “Russia does not really know where it begins and where it ends.” He noted that the Moscow regime is “a lot more sophisticated” than the Soviets under Leonid Brezhnev. He should know – he was on the front line the last time Russia invaded a European country.

Backing Georgia with Europe’s political and financial institutions is a powerful response.
The most potent western response to Russia is to stay united and firm by providing immediate material and political support.

Clip Source: www.ft.com

Any doubts about why Russia invaded Georgia have now been erased. By illegally recognising the Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s president, made clear that Moscow’s goal is to redraw the map of Europe using force.

This war was never about South Ossetia or Georgia. Moscow is using its invasion, prepared over years, to rebuild its empire, seize greater control of Europe’s energy supplies and punish those who believed democracy could flourish on its borders. Europe has reason to worry.

Our first duty is to highlight Russia’s Orwellian tactics. Moscow says it invaded Georgia to protect its citizens in South Ossetia. Over the past five years it cynically laid the groundwork for this pretence, by illegally distributing passports in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, “manufacturing” Russian citizens to protect. The cynicism of Russia’s concern for ethnic minorities can be expressed in one word: Chechnya

This cynicism has become hypocritical and criminal

Tags: georgia, south ossetia and abkhazia, medvedev, georgian "cleansing", arson, rape and execution, human rights groups, vaclav havel, czech president

<clipSource>http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/fa0035f0-7459-11dd-bc91-0000779fd18c,dwp_uuid=66e078d0-66ca-11dd-808f-0000779fd18c.html?nclick_check=1</clipSource>

DO NOT PERFORM IN ISRAEL, PALESTINIANS TO MCCARTNEY

clipped by: Smoke TNT

Clip Source: www.ansamed.info

A Palestinian

It is a bold idea, one that may be difficult to pull off. But whether or not 1 million lawn signs are planted in unison, the plan underscores what some observers say is one of the most ambitious interfaith political organizing efforts ever attempted in the state. Moreover, political analysts say, the alliances across religious boundaries could herald new ways of building coalitions around political issues in California.

<clipSource>http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-faith24-2008aug24,0,5092135.story</clipSource>

On Why The Civilizations Clash

clipped by: Elisabeth Eaves
clipper's remarks: Wise man Bernard Lewis tells Foreign Policy that Christianity and Islam have been at odds because of similarities, not differences.

Clip Source: www.foreignpolicy.com

What brought Islam and Christendom into conflict was not so
much their differences as their resemblances. There are many religions in the
world, but almost all of them are regional, local, ethnic, or whatever you
choose to call it. Christianity and Islam are the only religions that claim universal
truth. Christians and Muslims are the only people who claim they are the
fortunate recipients of God’s final message to humanity, which it is their duty
not to keep selfishly to themselves—like the Jews or the Hindus or the
Buddhists—but to bring to the rest of mankind, removing whatever obstacles
there may be in the way.

So, we have two religions with a similar self-perception, a

Mr. Mashai first made the comments last month, angering Parliament, but he repeated his statement on Sunday and said: “We are against the Israeli regime. Corsi doesn't just belong to the right's conspiratorial wing, he belongs to its racist, white-supremacist fringe. Over the last couple of years, he's written disparagingly about Muslims, Catholics and Jews, not to mention gays and lesbians. Muslims are "ragheads," the pope is "senile" and tolerates "boy bumping," and Jews ... well, you can imagine.

The fact of the matter is, though, that Corsi doesn't so much aspire to participate as he does to profit.

n former years, Americans' ideology was influenced by their participation in the economy. To put it crudely, businesspeople tended to find a home in the Republican Party, working men and women in the Democratic Party. Today, we have a new class, one to which Corsi and his ilk belong, whose business is their ideology."

Clip Source: www.latimes.com

"The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality," occupies a class of its own. Corsi, you may recall, was the coauthor of "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry," the campaign diatribe that slimed the decorated Vietnam War veteran and then-Democratic presidential candidate's war record.

Corsi is frank about his motives for writing "The Obama Nation." As he told the New York Times this week: "The goal is to defeat Obama. I don't want Obama to be in office."

That's clear enough from the text. You can pretty well sum the whole thing up this way: The Democratic candidate is a deceitful jihadist drug addict who, if elected, plans to impose a black supremacist, socialist regime.

What's far more interesting is how somebody like Corsi suddenly becomes a player in a presidential campaign.

If the music you seem to hear playing in the background sounds familiar, it's because ... yes, you've crossed over into the Twilight Zone.

Tags: that, piece, of, shit, and anyone, who, would, buy, his, book

<clipSource>http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-rutten16-2008aug16,0,472577.column?track=ntothtml</clipSource>
