There was a big backlash to everything Disco in America in 1980.
In Europe, this didn't happen, so Disco naturally progressed over
there to what it had been hinting at for several years: a stripped
down, mechanical version of itself dubbed Italo Disco for reasons
unknown as very few of the artists were actual Italians. But they
all sang in english, which is odd because english was universally
a second language to them, as evidenced by the fact that the lyrics
make no sense and the vocalists have thick accents of indeterminate
origin. Still, despite these shortcomings, the music kicks ass, and
is recognized as the world's first completely electronic commercial
dance music, predating House, Techno, Electro, and just about
everything else. The music is seriously stupid good fun once you get
past its dated, tinny sound. I now have ten times more of this music
than any other genre. And I might very well start spinning it too.

the hidden part of every story, the buried part, the region that is still unexplored because there are as yet no words to enable us to get there

the words alone are not enough, and we need a whole series of signs with many meanings, which is to say a rite.

Myth is nourished by silence as well as by words. A silent myth makes its presence felt in secular narrative and everyday words; it is a language vacuum that draws words up into its vortex and bestows a form on fable

The tribal system of signs is arranged in relation to myth; a certain number of signs become taboo, and the 'secular' storyteller can make no direct use of them. He goes on circling around them, inventing new developments in composition, until in the course of this methodical and objective labour he suddenly gets another flash of enlightenment from the unconscious and the forbidden. And this forces the tribe to change its set of signs once more.

This is how the story of my love for the Captain's wife began, and my suffering.

I could never latch on to it to easily till I found words of wisdom and writing that could be applied to life
also learning about the outside world/universe
through factual writing like national geographic
and the guardian newspaper has really opened a lot of doors for life,conversation,enjoyment and distraction
reading offered answers to the meaning of life and the universe which had seriously distressed me beforehand
the quote from volataire sums it up:
Despite the enormous quantity of books, how few people read! And if one reads profitably, one would realize how much stupid stuff the vulgar herd is content to swallow every day."

this is particulary true in the days of crappy prime time tv shows
and hyped up media
I also read somewhere about the calming effect good reading material promoting creative thought can have on ones nerves
which I found very true
