Tehran: A married woman last week accused some members of Iranian military police of participation in a group raping of her on November 4, 2009. Iran's Parliament today is said to secretly investigate these claims. A Human Rights Watch report last week also documented at least 3 cases of rape against political dissidents in Iranian prisons.

In the past, Iran's Parliament has been reluctant or unable to investigate criminal or financial matters related to the increasingly powerful Military Police and Revolutionary Guard Corp (RGC).

IND: Unfortunately, the WSJ doesn’t include an excellent chart that accompanied this article in the paper on page B2 in its website. This chart can feed the appetite of conspiracy theorists who claim that the US needs to exaggerate the threat of Iran in order to sell more military goods to the oil rich Arab states in the Persian Gulf. But at the same time it undermines their arguments because conspiracy theorists often include Iran’s military expenditures as part of their reasoning. The chart shows Iran’s military expenditure at around $6 billion/yr versus the Saudis alone at around $33 billion/yr. Moreover, Iran buys most of its military goods from Russia, China, N. Korea, etc. and not from American or Western European companies.

NEW YORK - Federal prosecutors Thursday took steps to seize four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization long suspected of being secretly controlled by the Iranian government.

In what could prove to be one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in U.S. history, prosecutors filed a civil complaint in federal court seeking the forfeiture of more than $500 million in assets of the Alavi Foundation and an alleged front company.

The assets include Islamic centers in New York City, Maryland, California and Houston, more than 100 acres in Virginia, and a 36-story office tower in New York.

Seizing the properties would be a sharp blow against Iran, which has been accused by the U.S. government of bankrolling terrorism and seeking a nuclear bomb.

Die Regierung der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika steht nunmehr dermaßen total unter dem Einfluss organisierter Interessensgruppen, dass „unsere” Regierung nicht mehr in der Lage ist, auf die Bedürfnisse der amerikanischen Menschen einzugehen, die den Präsidenten und die Abgeordneten in Kongress und Senat wählen.

Er versprach Erneuerung, hat aber nichts dergleichen zusammengebracht.

Obama hätte eine exzellente Möglichkeit gehabt, die U.S.-Soldaten aus den verbrecherischen Aggressionskriegen des Bushregimes nach Hause zu bringen.

Statt also zu tun, was zu tun er versprochen hatte und wofür ihn die Wähler gewählt hatten, startete Obama beim Krieg gegen Afghanistan neu durch und begann einen neuen Krieg gegen Pakistan. Es dauerte nicht lange, bis Obama Bushs und Cheneys Drohungen übernahm, den Iran anzugreifen.

Statt Frieden wird es mehr Krieg geben.

John Limbert, a veteran U.S. diplomat and former hostage held in Iran for 444 days, has reportedly been appointed as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iran in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.

Limbert will be involved in negotiations with Iran, along with under secretary of state for political affairs, William Burns…Limbert, a career diplomat, is a fluent Persian speaker who has published several books on Iran including a recent one on how to engage the Islamic Republic, titled “Negotiating with Iran: Wrestling the Ghosts of History.”

…Here’s a video [IND: Limbert's Persian is simply amazing] of Iran’s then Deputy Defense Minister Ali Khamenei talking with Limbert while he was being held hostage in Tehran for 14 months, often in solitary confinement. The video was recently posted on Khamenei’s website.

IND: This articles highlights some of the pros and cons of supporting the Green Movement. But the main issue is not so much what America can do to strengthen the Green Movement that it is what America can do to weaken the regime visa via the Green Movement. The Obama administration needs to make it as difficult as possible for the regime to crack down on the democratic dissidents by constantly publicizing their plight. By holding regular White House briefings on Iran’s domestic development and not just the nuclear issue, President Obama can bring the world’s media to focus on the regime’s Achilles’ heel – it’s disastrous human rights and economic track record. The weaker the regime gets the more embolden the Iranian people will become to stand up against it.

Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, effectively spurned Barack Obama's offer of renewed ties between Washington and Tehran last night by making it conditional on the US abandoning support for Israel.

He told a press conference in Istanbul that Obama had failed to deliver his promise of change in US foreign policy and said he had to choose between Israel and relations with Iran.

Ahmadinejad's comments came hours after Tehran's prosecutor announced spying charges against three Americans in a move that threatened to plunge US-Iranian relations to a fresh low.

But Ahmadinejad suggested a less drastic outcome by voicing hope that they would not be jailed and sidestepping questions over whether he believed they were spies.
