clipper's remarks: Sources are also predicting a pointed debate between the heads of the industrialized nations over an appropriate response to Iranian authorities' suppression of reformist demonstrations in Iran led by Mir Hossein Mousavi and other Iranian opposition leaders.
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi hinted in a newspaper interview earlier in the week that the G8 is due to decide on new financial sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Berlusconi disclosed that he had spoken with the heads of the G8 nations and has discussed such steps with them.

According to the Italian prime minister, "the general leaning [among G8 leaders] is toward sanctions."

However, diplomatic sources in New York reported that American officials are working behind the scenes to prevent new sanctions from being imposed against Iran.

U.S. officials claimed that a tough stance toward Iran could backfire, bringing about an opposite outcome to that desired by those who support such measures.

As diplomats prepare for the G8 Summit, many are working toward a resolution to impose additional economic sanctions on Iran. There is one country working hard to prevent new sanctions, the United States.

Apparently Europe feels that Iran's continued development of its nuclear weapons program, its crackdown on their own people and the arrest of British Diplomats is worthy of new sanctions.

President Obama's myopic pursuit of his engage the Islamist terrorist regime policy is making him reluctant to upset the Iranian government, with new sanctions. Its Neville Chamberlain time in the oval office:

The United States is opposed to enacting a new set of financial sanctions against Iran that are due to be discussed in the G8 summit next week, diplomatic officials in New York reported Friday.

According to officials, sanctions against Iran are expected to top the G8's agenda.

Like his chief backer, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, Zelaya was intent on rewriting his country's constitution to abolish term limits.

When the country's Supreme Court declared his actions unconstitutional and the country's top military officer informed Zelaya that he would not carry out his orders to oversee a sham election, Zelaya fired him. Zelaya then led a mob of supporters - including armed thugs supplied by Chavez and Nicaraguan Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega - to try to steal the ballots.

Dear Mr. Ban Ki Moon,

I, as an Iranian student on behalf of all others, who are protesting and dying on the streets to stand up for their right and vote, am asking for your helping hands. Our Dictatorial government, so called Democratic Regime,

has made our country into a huge prison for us; we just need our voices to be heard. We don't need only sympathy; we need some actual help from United Nations. For instance, we need everyone to recognize that M. Ahmadi-nejad and A. Khameneh-e are not worthy of their positions and that they are frauds; we need International Embassies in Iran to offer health supports for people who need serious medical care because of the protests for the government controls who comes and goes to any hospital in the country, especially in Tehran.

Along with its other people including Ahmadi-nejad, the government has done nothing but deceiving people as well as punishing or killing those who only want freedom and their right.

British Embassy workers 'face trial' in Iran

A top Iranian cleric says some of the detained Iranian staffers of the British Embassy in Tehran will be put on trial.

Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, who is close to Iran's supreme leader, has made the announcement in a Friday prayer sermon. He says the detained staffers "made confessions."

Jannati does not say how many staffers will be tried or on what charges. Earlier Iranian officials said all but one of the eight embassy personnel arrested on June 27 had been released, but European Union officials said they believed more than one was still being held.

Jannati is the head of the Guardian Council, a powerful body in Iran's clerical rule, and is close to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The UK government is "concerned" and is seeking clarification about reports that Iranian staff working at the British Embassy in Tehran will face trial over their alleged involvement in anti-government protests, Downing Street said today.

Iran Human Rights, July 1: Six people were hanged in Tehran’s Evin prison early this morning July 1. reported the state run Iranian news agency ISNA.

None of those who were executed today were identified by name, age or details around what they were convicted of.

The state run news site "young journalist’s club" also reported that one man identified as Alireza (28) was hanged in Tehran’s Evin prison convicted of murdering his friend.

Jerusalem Post , quoting a source in Iran, reported that six people were hanged in Tehran in relation with the recent pro-democracy demonstrations in Iran.
Iran Human Rights can not verify this report.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, spokesperson of "Iran Human Rights" said:"We are concerned that none of those executed today were identified by name.

Iran Human Rights, July 4: Six men were hanged in the prison of Qom, south of Tehran, on Thursday July 2, reported the state run Iranian news agency Fars.

The men were identified as Ahmad T., Abolfazl B., Reza A., Mostafa F., Esmaeil R. and Mohammad Kh. and were all convicted of drug trafficking according to the report.

One day earlier, on Juy 1., six others were hanged in Tehran’s Evin prison.

According to the human rights lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei, 29 people are scheduled to be executed in Tehran on Saturday July 4.

Iran Human Rights had earlier warned about upcoming mass executions following the past weeks’ pro-democracy demonstrations in Iran.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights, said: "Once again we ask the UN and the international community to do whatever they can to stop the executions and human rights violations in Iran".

Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi president, allowed the world to believe his country had weapons of mass destruction in an attempt to deter an Iranian invasion, an FBI file has revealed.

In 20 formal interviews and five "casual conversations" with George Piro, an FBI agent, Saddam said he considered Iran to be a bigger threat to Iraq than the US.

The US invaded Iraq partly due to the belief it had weapons of mass destruction [Reuters]

"Hussein believed that Iraq could not appear weak to its enemies, especially Iran," the agent wrote in June 2004.

The former leader also said that Iraq had never co-operated with al Qaeda, nor met Osama bin Laden, its leader, who he described as a "zealot".

He told the FBI the US had "used the 9/11 attack as a justification" to invade Iraq.

He has accused Ahmadinejad of winning the election erroneously and for insulting two of Prophet Mohammed's companions.

7. Seven people were arrested in Qazvin today in connection with the protests. The head of Participation Front in Hormozgan Province, Mr. Ramezanpour, was also arrested.

1. Thousands of people gathered at Iran's Beheshte Zahra Cemetery, along with other smaller cemeteries, to mourn the people who have died in the protests. The numbers were hard to confirm, but various sources claimed somewhere between 10,000 – 15,000. Large numbers of Basijis were reported to have been stationed in and around Beheshte Zahra Cemetery, but no clashes were reported. Shopkeepers in Tabriz have reportedly stopped their strikes because of government intimidation and threats made by the Basijis.

3. Hard-line Parliament members today again called on the Judiciary to prosecute Mousavi for allegedly breaking the law by calling for protests and for instigating violence.

Unconfirmed reports from Qom and Khorasan indicate that more and more clerics are considering denouncing the government's actions; declaring the protests as legitimate.
