This weekend's reader poll of common DIY skills everyone "should" have turned up interesting results: most of you know how to iron a shirt, put out a fire, and install a graphics card.

But the fewest poll respondents know how to tie a bowline knot (where are the sailors?!), remove bloodstains from fabric, and make a drum-tight bed (your commanding officer would be disappointed). Here are the full results.

Add search to your Web site with Xapian and Omega

With Xapian and Omega you can quickly build a powerful search interface for your Web site. You'll be able to index your HTML, PDF, and PHP content and search for it by metadata or words contained in the documents.

The shared library that implements the actual index is called Xapian. Omega is a set of tools built by the Xapian team to let you use the library for index and search if you are not a software developer.

Omega is packaged as a 1-Click install for openSUSE and is available in Ubuntu Hardy Universe, but only Xapian is packaged for Fedora 9 as xapian-core-devel. I installed the Xapian package, and built version 1.0.8 of Omega from source on a 64-bit Fedora 9 machine with the usual ./configure; make; sudo make install commands. Along with the application, this installs the documentation, configuration file, and manual pages. You should also execute the below commands to set up the Web search interface.

These early adopters are shelling out big money to have already thrifty cars like the Toyota Prius and Ford Escape Hybrid converted into full-on plug-in hybrids capable of triple-digit fuel economy. Topic was “can there be any problem for ranking if we are using Google analytics in our site” definitely, first of all we all will say that no, but logic behind topic is, Google crawls our sites and we install Google analytics in our site to allow Google to track our site visitors from different location from worldwide.
Means, we allow Google to access our traffic detail. Here topic starts. When some time we get high traffic from other activities like, directory submission, social bookmarking, press release submission and main is email marketing. Applications
Being a DVD install there are plenty of softwares available. But majority of the software is of older version. Open Office is 2.2.1 instead of the latest 2.3.0 and Firefox is 2.0.0.6 instead of the latest 2.0.0.7. Additional repositories can be configured to install more software as well. This installation failed for me though.
