Musicfest NW: Local Natives

The Local Natives may be L.A. locals, but they’re foreigners in the pop music mecca when it comes to their tri-harmonizing indie sound and do-it-yourself approach. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, it’s because up until last year, the five played under Cavil At Rest. While recording their debut album, Gorilla Manor, the band thought it necessary to shed the old name created in high school by Taylor Rice (vocals/guitar), Kelcey Ayer (vocals/keys/percussion), and Ryan Hahn (vocals/guitar) to incorporate members Andy Hamm (bass) and Matt Frazier (drums) who joined in 2007.

Indie Drummer Jerry Fuchs Dies After Fall Down Elevator Shaft

Indie rock drummer Jerry Fuchs died Sunday after a tragic fall down an elevator shaft in Williamsburg. Fuchs, who has drummed for bands such as !!!, LCD Soundsystem, Turing Machine and Maserati, died at Bellevue Hospital at 3:30 a.m.

I'm sure you've come across Fred & Friend products before at your local indie store and might not have even known it. Last weekend I was cruising around town and stopped at an indie store only to find one whole corner of the place dedicated to Fred & Friend products. It was heavenly. I stood there for probably more than a half hour laughing and checking out all their cool stuff.

In the view of Diablo Cody Jennifer's Body is not as hot as you hope it would be.His words states —its particularly teenspeak — was a revelation in Juno, Jennifer's Body tries hard to be cool, gross and nasty but feels forced and misses the mark.

Some of the pieces in this horror/comedy hybrid are marginally inspired: such as an alt-indie band (fronted by Adam Brody) who turn to ritualistic murders since the field is so tough to make a name in and the hapless efforts of such school officials as Mr. Wroblewski (J.K. Simmons) to cope with a grisly killing spree that is decimating the student body.
