Presidents running for reelection have long known that two issues are good predictors of success: whether the county is at peace, and whether its citizens are living in prosperity.

The misery index, a term coined by the late economist Arthur Orkin, combines the national unemployment rate and the annual rate of inflation to track the mood among voters. Any president whose misery index climbs above 10% -- Gerald Ford in 1976, Jimmy Carter in 1980, George H.W. Bush in 1992 -- is in trouble. Those who serve in times of a falling index -- see Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton -- prosper.

The Wall Street Journal, in a recent editorial called "McCain, Bush and the Dollar," argues that the economy is ailing now not just because of the subprime mortgage crisis, high gasoline prices or federal tax policy. The culprit, says the Journal: the Bush administration's "malign neglect of the dollar."

Chrome is a security nightmare, indexes your bank accounts

So is this all a big deal? Well anyone who wants to search your financial information would need local access to your machine and if a person is sitting at your computer, you have a lot more things to worry about than him/her using Chrome’s history search. Conceivably a hacker could develop an app to pull the cache and index files off your computer and examine them later on another machine – these files reside in the “C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default” folder.

Grand Rapids, MI – September 2, 2008 – Nearly half of office workers surveyed in the United States see advantages to an office romance, but an overwhelming majority choose to pursue love elsewhere due to office politics and perceptions. These results are the second in a four-part Workplace Index Survey of 279 workers on the nature of work commissioned by Steelcase, a global office environments manufacturer.

While only 17 percent of respondents have engaged in an office romance, many see personal advantages to dating a coworker. Just under 50 percent of American workers (47 percent) would enjoy dating a colleague that understands the issues they face at work, and 42 percent believe that their mood would improve, encouraging them to go to work each morning. A third of respondents would also welcome the ease of coordinated personal and professional lives.

She writes in longhand, and while she doesn’t have a formal schedule, she says she prefers to write in the morning, before breakfast . She’s a creative writing professor, and on the days she teaches, she says she writes for an hour or 45 minutes before leaving for her first class. On other days, when the writing is going well, she can work for hours without a break — and has breakfast at 2 or 3 in the afternoon!

A settlement has been given preliminary approval in a class-action lawsuit against eBay Inc. and PayPal, Inc. (collectively, “Defendants”)

The Settlement provides, among other things, that certain persons who funded transactions through PayPal on or after February 1, 2004 using a source other than a credit card, may be entitled to receive a share of three million five hundred thousand dollars ($3,500,000), which will be paid into a Settlement Fund by PayPal.
