Remember when Rush Limbaugh suggested that Hillary Clinton was a party to murder? When Newt Gingrich shut down the federal government in an attempt to bully Bill Clinton into accepting those Medicare cuts? And let’s not even talk about the impeachment saga.…

It’s an ugly picture. But it’s the truth. And it’s a truth anyone trying to find solutions to America’s real problems has to understand.

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

There was what President Obama likes to call a teachable moment last week, when the International Olympic Committee rejected Chicago’s bid to be host of the 2016 Summer Games.

“Cheers erupted” at the headquarters of the conservative Weekly Standard, according to a blog post by a member of the magazine’s staff, with the headline “Obama loses! Obama loses!” Rush Limbaugh declared himself “gleeful.” “World Rejects Obama,” gloated the Drudge Report. And so on.

So what did we learn from this moment? For one thing, we learned that the modern conservative movement, which dominates the modern Republican Party, has the emotional maturity of a bratty 13-year-old.

But more important, the episode illustrated an essential truth about the state of American politics: at this point, the guiding principle of one of our nation’s two great political parties is spite pure and simple. If Republicans think something might be good for the president, they’re against it — whether or not it’s good for America.

Tags: politics, malice, spite, conservatives, obama

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/05/opinion/05krugman.html?hp#</clipSource>

Tell Me Lies

clipped by: zizzy

Clip Source: www.slate.com

"The Liberation of Lying: What Tobias Wolff gets and the frauds don't,

"When Congress Makes Your Swear: Does it matter if Karl Rove and Harriet Miers testify under oath?

"How Many Ways Can You Say "Lie"?: The difference between perjury, false statements, and obstruction of justice,"

"Doris Goodwin on Obama's Borrowings: One of these two people has committed plagiarism, and it isn't Obama,

"Secrets and Lies: The DoD's disgraceful plot to plant rosy stories in the Iraqi press

"To Tell the Truth: How can you end a relationship with a chronic liar?

"Can I Beat a Lie Detector?: I always tell the truth. No it is not the side of America or the American soldier but rather the side of those who wish us harm. Current Rules of Engagement in Afghanistan have hampered our efforts to rout out Taliban insurgents bent on killing American soldiers.

The sooner we rid our country of Islamic sympathizers the better off we will be in the end. They took place on Tuesday in an ambush against Afghan forces and their U.S. trainers around the village of Ganjgal. There, journalist Jonathan S. Landay of McClatchey Newspapers lived through the deadly firefight to write the following:

"U.S. commanders, citing new rules to avoid civilian casualties, rejected repeated calls to unleash artillery rounds at attackers dug into the slopes and tree lines -- despite being told repeatedly that they weren't near the village."

We've come a long way -- too long -- from George S. Patton's attributed words as spoken by George C. Scott in the movie "Patton": "I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb bastard die for his country."

And it could be very embarrassing to Mr. Obama. No doubt this is why, as Byron York points out, the mainstream media has been so reluctant to cover this story, only the WaPo and CBS chiming in at this point, although they were late to the party and relatively perfunctory.

Had Bush appointed thirty-one czars outside the normal Congressional approval system the MSM would have been all over it like the proverbial wet suit, declaring a coup d’etat in the making. But, as of now, the MSM has imposed omerta. It is Labor Day weekend. We shall see what happens next week.

UPDATE: Now that Van Jones has stepped, not surprisingly the NYT has commented " but without any acknowledgment that they had ignored the story. Unfortunately, some authorities in the U.S. have fallen for that version, without really knowing what went on.

Why is Obama siding with Chavez and Castro on this matter?

I believe that, on the one hand, Obama is beginning to show his socialist tendencies, which were denounced during the American presidential campaign. On the other hand, Obama is letting himself be influenced by several presidents of Latin America, particularly Lula of Brazil, who is the real power behind the São Paulo Forum.

Can Honduras be saved from Chavez?

I think it can, but it requires the participation of all citizens, not only of Latin America, but of the U.S. as well. Every article, every interview, in favor of the Honduran democracy helps to defend their institutions against Chavez’s assault.

Clip Source: www.newswithviews.com

UnoAmerica

UnoAmerica is an Alliance of Latin-American Non Governmental Organizations
(NGOs), created to defend democracy and freedom, both currently in danger
in our continent. We decided to recognize the new Honduran government
because the ousting of President Manuel Zelaya was actually an impeachment.
Zelaya wanted to change the Constitution, without the approval of the
Supreme Court and the Congress, in order to stay illegally in power. As
in all democratic governments, there are three branches of power in Honduras.
In this case, the Executive wanted to stage a coup against the Constitution,
and the other two powers (Legislative and Judiciary) did not let that
        happen. It is very simple.

Why is the world allied against the new government?

In part, because of disinformation, and in part, because Hugo Chavez and

But thanks to Watergate, Nixon found himself on the path to impeachment and resigned his office. His “sweeping new program” for “comprehsive health insurance” lay dead on the table.

It is another of history’s ironies that Nixon’s successor, President Jimmy Carter, did not have the clout to push through a similar program. I recall sitting with a friend in a bar in New Jersey the same night that John Lennon was shot. A German was expounding on an issue I had never considered before. “The thing you have to understand about American presidents,” he intoned in his Teutonic accent, “is that they always do the opposite of what you expect them to do. It was Nixon who opened the door to China, and Kennedy and Johnson who got us into the Vietnam war.”

The Senate also tries impeachment cases for federal officials referred to it by the House.

Tags: government, us-government, politics

<clipSource>http://www.whitehouse.gov/our_government/legislative_branch/</clipSource>

impeachment of Bill Clinton

clipped by: doodleicious
clipper's remarks: my bad- how the heck did i zone this one out- thanks for helping me learn something today...lordy- must have just round filed the impeachment thing- due to him being acquitted I guess- I am now un-askew my own darn self-
lol......

Clip Source: en.wikipedia.org

Impeachment of Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton, President of the United States, was impeached by the House of Representatives on December 19, 1998, and acquitted by the Senate on February 12, 1999. The charges, perjury, obstruction of justice, and abuse of power arose from the Monica Lewinsky scandal and the Paula Jones lawsuit. The trial proceedings were largely party-line, with no Democratic Senators voting for conviction and only five Democratic Representatives voting to impeach. In all, 55 senators voted not guilty, and 45 voted guilty on the perjury charge. The Senate also acquitted on the charge of obstruction, with 50 votes cast as not guilty, and 50 votes as guilty.[1] It was only the second impeachment of a President in American history, following the impeachment of Andrew Johnson in 1868.

Tags: clinton

<clipSource>http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Impeachment_of_Bill_Clinton&oldid=300434994</clipSource>

Honduras crisis

clipped by: chetler
clipper's remarks: Complicated Honduran politics

Clip Source: www.slate.com

the Honduran Constitution does not include an impeachment procedure—Congress is entitled to name a new president only in the absence of the current one.
