A number of small businesses fail or do not do as well as they should because of poor or inadequate small business inventory software. The problem is basically one of attitude, often caused by ignorance. It is self evident that a small business is generally short of resources (it would hardly be a small business if there were adequate resources) and it is the ability to extract the maximum return from managing these resources that is the hallmark of success. You simply need to think of inventory as a major business investment that needs constant attention and action.

As someone crawling out of years of ignoring what goes on around me (or, I guess you could say, ignorance) I pretty much am forced to try to learn each new topic from the ground up. At least when it comes to technical matters. Now on the intuitive level, I think I even gain from a lack of certain preconceived perceptions. Things like body language, human behavior, and a fairly accurate B.S. detector. This health care thing is a multi-headed beast, on multiple layers and levels. (Not to mention the multi-headed beasts which are the personalities involved.) It is entangled with, and must involve, your sense of values toward your fellow man, and it requires thought surrounding fundamental American ideas. I think it is likely that much of the most strident resistance is rooted in a valid sense that those in power are not just seeking a progress that progresses the American way, but one that is Post-American Progressive as a brand.

The Democratic instinct to crush free speech is surpassed only its sister predisposition to crush religion. So it really is no surprise that Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey is suggesting that the IRS revisit the Catholic Church's tax-exempt status.

clipper's remarks: It is ironic to say the least that Congress and the Obama administration are glorifying the idea of a “public option” that would ultimately lead to government-run health care while Treasury receipts continue to shrink. If the private health insurance market disappears, so will its taxes.

To name just one example, Aetna’s recorded income tax expense on its financial statements for 2005-2008 (including state and local taxes) averaged roughly $900 million per year. Put the company’s health insurance segment out of business, and a large portion of those taxes would stop coming in, digging the country’s and various states’ debt holes that much deeper.

The establishment press has paid very little attention to fiscal 2009’s drop of 19.5% in receipts from economic activity, so I expect similar treatment of October’s continuation of the trend. It would appear that they don’t want any unsettling news getting in the way of the statist agenda.

Christopher Hitchens has been debating a Christian pastor named Douglas Wilson on the subject of whether Christianity has been a force for good in the world.

I just want to comment on one point Wilson throws out.

"It's not a question of whether we have faith, it's what we have faith in," says Wilson. "Christopher has faith in the role of scientific inquiry, rational inquiry. He has faith in that process. Christopher is as much a man of faith as I am."

I so detest that line of argument, that attempt at setting up a false equivalence, reducing all words to equal lies. If the only way you can support your beliefs is by claiming that all ideas, from Scientology and Young Earth Creationism to Ohm's Law and the theory of evolution, are equally matters of faith, then your only line of defense is to endorse ignorance and the pretense that everything we know is stupid. It is contemptible.

Activities around the world Saturday focused on the need to reduce carbon emissions. But a new Pew survey shows that fewer and fewer Americans believe there is solid evidence the earth is warming.

Around the world Saturday, environmental activists touted the number “350” as a way to recognize the seriousness of global climate change.

It’s not a secret code. The number refers to the concentration of carbon in the atmosphere — meeting a goal of 350 parts per million (ppm), which is considerably less than the current level of 387 ppm.

Pew finds that since April 2008, the percentage of Americans surveyed who believe there is “solid evidence the earth is warming” has dropped from 71 percent to 57 percent.
