Miguel Cotto against Manny Pacquiao brings together two fighters who are sporting icons in Puerto Rico and the Philippines respectively, and who are regarded as boxing’s No 3 and No 1 pound-for-pound, respectively, at present.

Cotto, 29, a two-weight world champion, has fought at welterweight for three years, and has been beaten only once in 35 contests, while Pacquiao, 30, attempts to win a seventh world title in a seventh weight division, which has seen him come up over eight years from flyweight to welterweight. He has been beaten twice in his 55-fight career, with two draws.

It can't possibly have escaped your notice that shoulder pads are, once more, bolstering the silhouette of style's most sought-after garments this season.

Blame Balmain. Their preppy blazer look dominated the High Street last winter; this year they look set to influence our wardrobes all over again with a collection of peak-shouldered jackets and tops that have already found favour among the glitterati (Victoria Beckham and Rihanna, to name just two).

The look has prompted a slew of comparisons with Dynasty's 1980s style icons Krystle and Alexis Carrington and their power-dressing, ear-brushing suits.

But the history of the humble shoulder pad actually dates back to the 1930s, when designer of the moment Elsa Schiaparelli used them in her collections. And, in 1932, movie star Joan Crawford popularised the look when she sported shoulder pads in the film Letty Lynton.

The European Court of Human Rights ruled on Tuesday that crucifixes should be removed from Italian classrooms, prompting Vatican anger and sparking uproar in Italy, where such icons are embedded in the national psyche.

"The ruling of the European court was received in the Vatican with shock and sadness," said Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi, adding that it was "wrong and myopic" to try to exclude a symbol of charity from education.

The ruling by the court in Strasbourg, which Italy said it would appeal, said crucifixes on school walls -- a common sight that is part of every Italian's life -- could disturb children who were not Christians.

Italy has been in the throes of national debate on how to deal with a growing population of immigrants, mostly Muslims, and the court sentence is likely to become another battle cry for the center-right government's policy to restrict newcomers.

Overview

The Icon Theme Specification has been in use now for a while, in several desktops, including KDE and Gnome. However, there has never been any centralized direction on how to name the icons that are available for use by applications, when creating a theme. This has meant that artists have historically had to duplicate many icons, in order for their themes to work across desktop environments.

This specification aims to solve this problem, by laying out a standard naming scheme for icon creation, as well as providing a minimal list of must have icons. Addendums to this specification will provide additional icon lists for extended sets, such as devices and MIME types.
