Sexually selected fitness indicators typically show (1) higher coefficients of phenotypic and genetic variation than survival traits, (2) at least moderate genetic heritabilities and (3) positive correlations with many aspects of an animal's general condition, including body size, body symmetry, parasite resistance, longevity and freedom from deleterious mutations. These diagnostic criteria also appear to describe human intelligence (the g factor).>>> (from abstract).

So then, is there some sort of mirror neuron circuitry in the brain that excites a cortical g spot?

Clip Source: www3.interscience.wiley.com

during human evolution, mate choice by both sexes focused increasingly on intelligence as a major heritable component of biological fitness. Many human-specific behaviours (such as conversation, music production, artistic ability and humour) may have evolved principally to advertise intelligence during courtship. Though these mental adaptations may be modular at the level of psychological functioning, their efficiencies may be tightly intercorrelated because they still tap into common genetic and neurophysiological variables associated with fitness itself. Although the g factor (like the superordinate factor of fitness itself) probably exists in all animal species, humans evolved an unusually high degree of interest in assessing each other's intelligence during courtship and other social interactions

Tags: g factor, sex

<clipSource>http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/summary/105559995/SUMMARY</clipSource>

The value of cord blood—even greater than once imagined!

clipped by: Stumblerz
clipper's remarks: Families who have banked your child’s cord blood (or are considering it) take note -you may have access to “ready-to-use” stem cell therapies that are greater than we imagined. Human Rights Council, facing a draft resolution by the Arab and Islamic blocs that seeks to endorse the biased Goldstone Report"a 500-page document that falsely accuses Israel of “deliberate attacks” against civilians during its defensive war against Hamas rocket attacks last January. (For details, see www.unwatch.org/goldstone.)

Adoption of this dangerous text will trigger proceedings toward the indictment and prosecution of Israeli leaders and officers in the International Criminal Court. What’s at stake is the very survival of democratic societies under the assault of terrorists"enemies of human rights who cynically invoke its protective cover.

The debate began yesterday and reaches its climax today. UN Watch will be there to address the assembled delegates.
Representing us will be none other than Col. Richard Kemp, former commander of the British forces in Afghanistan,

Clip Source: www.unwatch.org

Take Action

The U.N. Human Rights Council is about to vote on an Arab-sponsored resolution seeking to endorse the biased Goldstone Report. If this dangerous text is adopted, the U.N. Defending civilians from 10,000 Hamas rocket attacks. If adopted, terrorism will win, democracy will lose, and more innocents will die. The U.S. will oppose the text, but the European Union votes remains critical. Probably that's the way the human mind works, the memes that are propagated are not the most factual, but the most appealing, intriguing, amusing or surprising.

The problem are the consequences for science if the focus is set on communication at any expense instead of accuracy. However, a perfect accuracy with no communication is pointless. Thus, as with all conflicting goals, the way to go is probably a compromise, as it doesn't look like we are changing human nature anytime soon.

Clip Source: www.newscientist.com

communicating science

"Honesty good. 3600 years due to its elliptical orbit). Nibiru is said to be the home of
our forefathers; the original creators of the Human race; the gods of the Old
Testament. Is Nibiru real? The writings of the Sumerian Tablets as
translated by Zachariah Sitchin and pre-date any known written history, seem to
suggest that it is.

Now, consider this. What "if" the events of the Bible are more-or-less

Best advice I’ve heard all year.

But where are all of these robots? Mostly they are things like those little Roombas and Robomowers that creep in and around tech-savvy homes.

The author identifies a looming problem, with military contractors driving the manufacture and spread of Robosapiens, we need to begin focusing on the ethics of their use for civilian applications. Getting a robot to identify the enemy under military situations is quite different from relying on them to patrol civilian streets.

It’s no longer a great stretch to imagine robocops in patrol cars in the near future.

Clip Source: www.dailygalaxy.com

An eminent roboticist is warning the people of Earth that we must prepare defenses against the rise of the robots

Professor Noel Sharkey of the University of Sheffield

noticed that there are something like five and a half million robots in action in the private sector

Prof Sharkey's point is that while public interest in robotics has increased, the public's protection against them hasn't

The only legal framework applied to robotics is the usual "try not to build anything that actively kills people" boilerplate, and while that's a very good rule it hardly covers the complexity of human-robot interactions

with increasingly interactive robots on the way, Sharkey foresees serious psychological issues in the offing and urges consideration of the moral and ethical factors.

the leading source of robotic funding is the military, whose ethical factors tend to start with "Will it kill them quickly?" and end with "If not, will we get caught?"

Tags: robots, ethics, military, robocops

<clipSource>http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2009/10/planetrobo-population-will-exceed-1-million-worldwide-by-2010.html</clipSource>

The next asset bubble: The market for death, life insurance, and credit default swaps

clipped by: nuttyriv3r

Clip Source: www.levy.org

October 2009

Perhaps in the market for death it has found a replacement for the collapsed markets in subprime mortgage–backed securities and credit default swaps (CDSs).

Instead of making bets on the “death” of securities, this new product will allow investors to gamble on the death of human beings by purchasing “life settlements”—life insurance policies that the ill and elderly sell for cash.

These policies will then be packaged together as bonds—securitized—and resold to investors, who will receive payouts when the people with the insurance die.

In effect, just as the sale of a CDS creates a vested interest in financial calamity, here the act of securitizing life insurance policies creates huge financial incentives in favor of personal calamity.

Tags: agenda 21, banksters, cds, eugenics, financial sorcery, life insurance, wall street

<clipSource>http://www.levy.org/vdoc.aspx?docid=1200</clipSource>

OKCupid answers the question "What do women want?"

clipped by:
