Dexter is a forensic blood spatter expert. In reality, Dexter is a disciplined and murderous psychopath, and he slakes his blood lust at night by carefully killing the serial killers he tracks down during the day. Dexter’s homicidal tendencies were detected by his police officer father, Harry who encouraged his son to utilize his violent impulses in a positive manner, and also pounded a strict moral code into the boy. He is the main support for his sister, Debra, a Miami Cop. He has a steady girlfriend Rita, with two kids who adore him. More:

"Older dogs have figured out what humans are all about and are willing and eager to add new information to their knowledge of human behavior. Old dogs can absolutely learn new tricks!

There’s absolutely nothing like the smile you get from older dogs—especially dogs that haven’t felt like smiling in awhile, but now have reasons to smile because you love them.

Older dogs are looking for human companions who will value their wisdom and their slow pace. They have their very own special appeal.

When you adopt older dogs, you can erase any unpleasant past experiences that they’ve had by loving them and caring for them. It doesn’t get any better than that!"

On a personal note, last April our local animal shelter helped us find an older dog to provide a companion to our 15-yr-old dog, who, like us, was grieving over the death of his older "brother" . We adopted our Sadie, a 9-yr-old who had been discarded in favor of a puppy. She is a JOY!

Clip Source: www.olddoghaven.org

you have room in your home and heart for an older dog, consider the

   Older
dogs, especially those that come to us, settle in easily and are
more than ready and willing to bond with you and your family.

you see is what you get with older dogs. They’ve already grown
   into themselves in all ways.

older dog probably won’t need a great deal of exercise, and
will really appreciate quality time with you and a good nap. And of
course, your socks and underwear will remain in tact.

   Older

older dogs have already experienced rides in the car and walking on

Ronald Reagan and David Horowiz are two prime examples of the breed.

They use the rhetorical tool of claiming to be just as caring and compassionate as their previous political incarnation, but the left's irrationality and hatred of (you pick it) the West, America, Christianity, capitalism, etc. caused them to wake up one morning and see the light. And having transformed from lefty caterpillar into a right-leaning butterfly, they present themselves as qualified to comment on liberalism's moral and intellectual failures.

[... A] related version of this turncoat persona [...]: a "reformed" Muslim woman who favors crushing Islam under the boot of Western militarism. Once very devout in her Muslim beliefs, Ali [...] has transformed into an outspoken critic who bases her calls for the destruction of Islam on feminist and human rights principles.
[L.c.]

Clip Source: www.alternet.org

Clip Source: www.alternet.org

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a proud Somali woman raised in a devout Muslim family. She'll validate already disturbingly common narratives about the perfidy of Islam, and she'll tout the vast superiority of Western thinking in stark terms that would be shocking coming from a more traditional (read: white, Christian) right-wing commentator.

Hirsi Ali occupies a unique space in the political landscape. Her outspoken advocacy on feminist ethical issues -- roundly condemning "honor killings" and female circumcision -- has also made her a poster-girl for the aggressive brand of atheism

For them, she's a living testament to the idea that rational liberal interventionists in the post-Enlightenment West have a moral duty to wage a new crusade against the Muslim world.

Tags: racism, feminism, women, islam, ayaan hirsi ali

<clipSource>http://www.alternet.org/images/managed/topstories_hirsiali.jpg</clipSource>

Don't think of a sick child

clipped by: melizer

Clip Source: www.salon.com

President Bush wants to leave American families to the mercy of profit-run healthcare -- a practical and moral failure.

Profit-maximizing insurance, as opposed to doctor-provided care, forces the nation to choose among its children: who will get care and who won't, who will suffer and who won't, who will live and who will die.

Bush and his conservative allies don't want us to see sick children, just as they don't want us to see those bodies in bags coming back from Iraq. They're in the habit of sweeping our human casualties under the rug.

But Americans are a compassionate people. We do care about sick children. We do care about our dead and wounded vets and their families. We do care about victims of Hurricane Katrina. Empathy and compassion are what this country is about. America is about caring for one another, about being in the same boat, about being a national family. It is not about profiting from someone else's suffering, especially if that someone else is a child.

Tags: schip, healthcare, insurance

<clipSource>http://www.salon.com/opinion/2007/10/20/sick/?source=whitelist</clipSource>
