Sharon Osbourne Apologizes for Calling Susan Boyle "Ugly"

Sharon Osbourne has apologized for saying that Britain's Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle was hit by "the ugly stick."

Last month, Osbourne, 57, appeared on Sirius XM Radio's The Opie & Anthony Show and was asked about Boyle. She cracked, "You just want to say God bless and here's a Gillette razor."

But on her Twitter page this week, Osbourne changed her tune.

"Susan Boyle is a lovely gracious woman and I took advantage of that by poking fun at her," she wrote. "I would never want to be responsible for hurting Susan and I must apologize for getting a cheap laugh at her expense."

Twitter feed to become TV show?

A Twitter feed featuring pearls of wisdom from a 73-year-old father could be turned into a US TV show.

Justin Halpern, 29, has attracted more than 700,000 followers since he began posting his father's often profane words of wisdom.

The comments include: "The baby will talk when he talks, relax. It ain't like he knows the cure for cancer and he just ain't spitting it out."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Halpern will co-write the CBS project. The creators of Will and Grace will help him create a pilot show which could become a series.

Halpern moved back in with his parents in San Diego in August and began the Twitter feed based on daily conversations with his dad soon after.

Here are some of Mr Halpern Snr's words of wisdom: "Oh please, you practically invented lazy. People should have to call you and ask for the rights to lazy before they use it."

The movie immerses you in its world from the get-go. The opening credits scroll over a raucous rave-up in a cramped apartment, with revelers—white and black—boozing and singing along to an impromptu jam. Without a word of dialogue the demimonde is established—this is not Don Draper's Manhattan. Shadows centers on three siblings: Benny (Ben Carruthers), a brooding beatnik and unemployed trumpet player; Lelia (Lelia Goldoni), the innocent little sister who puts up a worldly front; and Hughie (Hugh Hurd), the oldest and a struggling jazz musician. The three are African-American, but only Hughie looks it—both Benny and Lelia are light-skinned enough to pass for white.

If American independent cinema could be said to have a birthday, Nov. 11 is as good a date to celebrate as any. On that night 50 years ago, John Cassavetes, an actor then best known for his TV roles, unveiled for a downtown New York audience his directing debut, Shadows. Cassavetes had financed the production with his paychecks from Hollywood and made the film with a cast and crew of novice actors from his drama workshop. The finished product betrayed their inexperience: mismatched cuts, shots out of focus, audio out of sync. But it was also unlike anything audiences had seen before: a raw, kinetic, jazz-scored dispatch from bohemian New York that was frank about sex, progressive on race, and intoxicated with youth. The film radiated a sense of urgency, even desperation—it felt like something Cassavetes just had to get out of his system

Hollywood funnyman Jim Carrey has blasted superstars Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie on live TV.

The comedian appeared on US chat show “Chelsea Lately” stating he wanted to cut some celebrities down to size, branding them “spoiled brats”.

When host Chelsea Handler suggested he start with Tom Cruise, Carrey said: “Oh, set before me a meal - oh my God! A Christmas feast! Tom Cruise - let me see - one of the hardest working people I’ve ever seen and, like, a total gentleman and what a jerk!”

Julianne Hough & Chuck Wicks Split

Julianne Hough and her country music cutie, Chuck Wicks, have split, according to several reports.

“This was mutual,” a source told People of the break-up. “They needed some time apart.”

Julianne, 21, met Chuck, 30, while on tour with Brad Paisley in 2008, and the pretty singer said their first date was very memorable.

“Our first date – it was sushi and then a walk somewhere,” Julianne told Access in 2008. “We can’t tell you the rest ‘cause that’s kind of a personal thing, but… We’ve got all these sentimental things from our first date that are like, kind of everywhere.”

After their first romantic outing, as the tour continued, the two seemed to live out of each other’s pockets.
